This now happened, and kodi is the very last rdep of jasper (both in
testing and unstable)

reading around looks like 17 breaks some stuff indeed.

this doesn't depend on me. The release team wants to get rid of it, and
confirmed that they will remove it from testing as soon as there are no
rdep, then I want to remove it from unstable too (but I'm not rushing
for that).
I suppose that if you want to keep kodi in testing—together with
jasper—you'll need to play with this bug report to avoid the
autoremoval (as every email delays the autorm date).

The new alpha releases are fixed indeed, but the fix is not simple and I'm
not comfortable with either back-porting it either with uploading 17.0
alphas to unstable. There are many add-on packages depending on Kodi's
API and they need to be updated as well with each major Kodi update
and I'm not sure if all the addon upstreams are ready for Kodi 17 already.

I'm uploading a fixed kodi 17 to experimental soon, but please keep jasper in
testing for kodi for a few short months.

Thanks,
Balint

Can you please fix it before?
I see there is an alpha release avaialbe that should already contain
that fix, or maybe backport the patch.

In a few days kodi is going to be the very last blocker for jasper
removal (as today I NMUed a bunch, and paved the way for the others).
