Hello tzdata maintainers, a week ago I provided the update for the German Debconf translation. Since we are now in hard freeze and the release quickly approaching, could you kindly upload this translation so that it reaches bookworm? I'm pretty sure release managers will accept this small but important change (one string in de.po only). If you need help, please let me know. Thanks! Bug#1026321: locales: Issues in Debians locales man pages
Package: locales Version: 2.36-6 Severity: minor Dear locales maintainer, the manpage-l10n project maintains a large number of translations of man pages both from a large variety of sources (including Locales) as well for a large variety of target languages. During their work translators notice different possible issues in the original (english) man pages. Sometimes this is a straightforward typo, sometimes a hard to read sentence, sometimes this is a convention not held up and sometimes we simply do not understand the original. We use several distributions as sources and update regularly (at least every 2 month). This means we are fairly recent (some distributions like archlinux also update frequently) but might miss the latest upstream version once in a while, so the error might be already fixed. We apologize and ask you to close the issue immediately if this should be the case, but given the huge volume of projects and the very limited number of volunteers we are not able to double check each and every issue. Secondly we translators see the manpages in the neutral po format, i.e. converted and harmonized, but not the original source (be it man, groff, xml or other). So we cannot provide a true patch (where possible), but only an approximation which you need to convert into your source format. Finally the issues I'm reporting have accumulated over time and are not always discovered by me, so sometimes my description of the problem my be a bit limited - do not hesitate to ask so we can clarify them. I'm now reporting the errors for your project. If future reports should use another channel, please let me know. Hello all, I resolved the breakage by "apt-get remove libgcc-8-dev". This removed noting central to me and allowed the subsequent "dist-ugprade" to complete. As the hard freeze is approaching, do you think it is possible to perform another uplaod (with the translations in #920427, #920598, #923061) in the next days to ensure propagation to Testing in time? Oh, I see what you mean. The change was a pure english one - it did not affect the translation. Therefore the correct action (which could have been done by you as maintainers as well) was to simply remove the "fuzzy" marker. The change *is* user visible, however. With the fuzzy marker, the english string is shown, without the translated (German) one. > > there some other issues (e.g. new strings I missed) which you want to > > point out? > > No, everything is fine. Fixing fuzzy strings (i.e. they are not fuzzy anymore) recompletes the German translation. I just checked, everything looks fine. Hello Keld, I was told that this e-mail address is the successor to the (no longer working) one keld.simon...@dkuug.dk. If that is not the case please accept my apologizes (and maybe you know the correct current contact details in that case?). You are listed as contact person/author of the following locales: da_DK de_BE de_CH de_LU el_GR en_AU en_CA en_DK en_GB en_IE en_NZ es_AR es_BO es_CL es_CO es_DO es_EC es_ES es_GT es_HN es_MX es_PA es_PE es_PY es_SV es_US es_UY es_VE eu_ES fi_FI fo_FO fr_BE fr_CA fr_CH fr_LU he_IL it_CH iw_IL kl_GL nl_BE nl_NL pl_PL POSIX pt_BR pt_PT ru_RU sv_FI sv_SE hu_HU ro_RO tr_TR These locales come with a statement % Distribution and use is free, also % for commercial purposes. Thus they do not allow modification; it is unclear, however, if this statement was meant as a license. As discussed in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=555168 these locales could strictly speaking not be part of Debian which would be a great loss. To properly resolve this, I would like to ask you the following question: Would you be willing to relicense these locale(s) to a proper license, e.g. (L)GPL v2 or higher or another free software license of your choice? Bug#555168: Unclear license situation for (e)glibc locales provided by you
Hello, you are listed as contact person/author of the following locale: bs_BA This locale comes with a statement % Distribution and use is free, also % for commercial purposes. Thus it does not allow modification; it is unclear, however, if this statement was meant as a license. As discussed in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=555168 this locale could strictly speaking not be part of Debian which would be a great loss. (Currently it is allowed pending investigation). To properly resolve this, I would like to ask you the following question: Would you be willing to relicense this locale to a proper license, e.g. (L)GPL v2 or higher or another free software license of your choice? If you have any questions regarding this issue, do not hesitate to contact me (via the reply-to address set). Thanks for helping to resolve this! Hello Schalk, thanks for your quick reply. On Fri, Jun 08, 2012 at 12:23:56AM +0100, "Schalk W. Cronjé" wrote: > Absolutely, please remove the text and adjust the license to be the > same as whatever af_ZA, en_ZA are licensed as nowadays. This is not possible: af_ZA has no clause while en_ZA has has the same problematic text as en_BW and en_ZW. The "no clause" text can be interpreted to be the same license as (e)glibc, but if possible an concrete license would be preferable, so either "LGPL v 2.1 or later" or maybe "same license than (e)glibc". > I have added that text way back in the 90s when the localisation > effort was just starting in Southern Africa.
