Unreliable Kppp

2001-04-29 Thread Chris Howells
I've been using Kppp for a while (KDE 2.2.1), and have always had
problems with its reliability.

My system is Debian potato, kernel 2.4.3-2.4.4 and pppd 2.4.0. Ppp
support is modular.

I very frequently get The pppd daemon died unexpectedly! and Exit
status:16, just after the Connect 45333/ARQ/V90/LAPM/V42BIS in the
debug window.

/var/log/syslog shows the following:

Apr 29 12:24:36 venus modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module ppp0
Apr 29 12:24:36 venus pppd[1021]: pppd 2.4.0 started by chris, uid 1000
Apr 29 12:24:36 venus pppd[1021]: Using interface ppp0
Apr 29 12:24:36 venus pppd[1021]: Connect: ppp0 -- /dev/ttyS1
Apr 29 12:24:38 venus pppd[1021]: Hangup (SIGHUP)
Apr 29 12:24:38 venus pppd[1021]: Modem hangup
Apr 29 12:24:38 venus pppd[1021]: Connection terminated.
Apr 29 12:24:38 venus pppd[1021]: Exit.

and /etc/modules.conf containts the following:

alias char-major-108ppp_generic
alias /dev/ppp ppp_generic
alias tty-ldisc-3 ppp_async
alias tty-ldisc-14 ppp_synctty
alias ppp-compress-21 bsd_comp
alias ppp-compress-24 ppp_deflate
alias ppp-compress-26 ppp_deflate
alias ppp0 ppp

WVdial always dials reliably. Does anybody have any ideas how to make it
more reliable?

Cheers,

I have a Creative SBLive Value, with fairly new drivers from
opensource.creative.com. This problem has been going on for months.
I presume it's because I haven't done something right in my
/etc/modutils/emu10k1 file, but I'm still a bit of newbie so I don't know
how to fix or where to find out. Also, the only time it seems to come up
is when I'm starting up KDE.

set both to off, e.g.
alias sound-slot-1 off

This is because there are dependencies on alsa somewhere, don't know why.
Those aliases are used by alsa only, AFAIK.

Konqeror and bigger font in text view

2001-04-29 Thread Viktor Lakics
Hi fellow KDE Debianers,

I love Konqi, but there is one thing, which bugs me a lot:

Whenever I use Konqueror to view a text file (on the web, or even in
my home directory) it loads the text viewer (which is I guess the
text editor embedded or something) and shows me the text file with
miniscule tiny font. I can't for my life figure out how to set
this font to a size that normal humans could read it...

I have no fancy ttfs or AA, just plain KDE 2.2.1. Anyone has an
idea?

Thanks in advance. -- Viktor

 want to print something.
 Thanks,

Look at the file /etc/papersize. Just change Letter for a4.
This worked for me.

I had the same problem

under settings click on configure Konqueror

then click on Konqueror browser

click on the tab appearance

you will get a screen that lets you change the font and font size

2001-04-29 Thread Viktor Lakics
Hi Andreas,

Unfortunately, Under Settings there is no Configure editor option,
not when I open konqi, not even when there is a text file viewed.
The only options are configure: toolbars, konqueror, keybindings

Any other idea, I could try?

 Hi
Look under Settings-Configure Editor (if you have such an option as soon as
a text file is shown - I'm using current CVS and I'm not sure about the
 official releases).
Under Fonts the default font (including size) can be changed.

You need to set the font size in advanced editor /kwrite. I assume because
this is what konqueror uses to view embedded text.

go to the KDE Control Center
click Look Feel
click Fonts
change the size of the fixed width font

check a text file in your home directory

kdevelop and konqueror questions

Hi,

I have a few questons:

1. When running a project from kdevelop, it beeps at the end. How can I turn
that off?

2. Is there a way to specify a home dir for web browsing in Konq that is not
equal to the one in kfm view? Actually it makes absolutely no sense that both
are the same.

3.How can I read gunzipped textfiles with konq without using ark or the like?
Netscape can do this.

4. How can I say konqueror to NOT open an extra window when viewing a text
file?
