Knode is a depend of the kdenetwork meta-package. You can delete the
kdenetwork meta-package, it does't delete any actual packages, then purge
any kdenetwork packages you want.

I am sorry, but your package is bad too ! I have the same errors ! Could
someone provide me a good package of kbiff ? Is that so hard to do ? Not
having all these errors ? In fact I want to learn, I take a look, to get
the SONAME with objdump -p /usr/lib/kbiff.so |grep -i SONAME, but I didn't
get à soname version to put in a shlib file ! What should be do to have a
good package of kbiff ?
Thank you very much !

I see that someone put an ITP on it since a long long time !

Um, sorry but I'm confused - are you guys saying we *must* have one of
the xscreensaver-blah packages installed in order to get proper *KDE*
screensaver behaviour ?

Or is that just for getting the xscreensaver random option working ?

I just assumed KDE's own screensavers are independent of xscreensaver.
Certainly nothing I've installed from Ralf's Woody KDE3.1 site
required me to install an xscreensaver package of any kind ..

possibly you are trying to compile using g++-3.2, and this is not
possible to link with g++-2.95 compiled libraries. Try setting this
before ./configure

export CXX=g++-2.95

Re: KNode Difficulties

2003-01-26 Thread Robert Tilley
I would like to openly thank Angela for her assistance. I now realize that
all three (Group, Header, Article) windows can be treated like "panes" of a
larger window and dragged arond via the thick bar at the top of the window.

Simply clicking on the thick bar of the Group window, allowed me to arrange it
in a vertical listing of groups on the left of the screen. Similar dragging
allowed the placement of the other windows.

Again, many thanks!

P.S. This should be clarified more distinctly in the help file.

ii libqt3-mysql 3.1.1+cvs.2002 Mysql database plugin for Qt3
ii libqt3-odbc3.1.1+cvs.2002 ODBC plugin for Qt3

and the complaint is:

checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.1 (20021021)) (library qt-mt)
not found. Please check your installation!
For more details about this problem, look at the end of config.log.
Make sure that you have compiled Qt with thread support!

I have libqt3-mt to handle the thread support. Do I need to explicitly
compile qt for my machine with the thread support enabled?

The point that's missing is the kde metapackage to be updated. I had a look at
it to modify it for a suitable KDE 3 version so you can just do apt-get
install kde (which then includes kdm, kdebase, part of kdenetwork etc.). I'm
not ready with that yet, that will take a while.

dependency libarts1-qt

2003-01-26 Thread Henning Moll
Hi!

I have successfully installed ralphs kde3.1 packages from ktown...

now, while trying to install old packages which are build agains kde3.0.5
(from
ftp.kde.org) there is a dependency problem with libarts1-qt:

it is not available for KDE3.1 (maybe because everything is included in
libarts1
?). But trying to install libarts1-qt from 3.0.5 (which is maybe not a good
idea)
also fails with this error:

trying to overwrite `/usr/lib/libqtmcop.so.1.0.0', which is also in package
libarts1

ok, so i wonder if it is a good idea to build a dummy libarts1-qt package to
be
dependency compliant?

Best regards!

Re: Woody/KDE3.1RC7 debs : Screensavers Report

2003-01-26 Thread Michael Hoodes
What I have done was apt-gotten xscreensaver-nognome
and xscreensaver which set the scene for kde for both
Woody (xscreensaver 3.09) and Sid (xscreensaver 3.10)

Other comments have been made about doubles in the list
and that XScreensaver does not seem to work.

I have looked at the doubles and it appears that there are different
screensavers for each of the doubles i.e. Gravity, Gravity (GL), or
Bouble, Bouble.

xscreensaver program works well (on kde 3.1 RC6 and RC7) when a
specific screensaver is chosen. However the option XScreensaver does
not work which is a random display of screensavers. The random option
is what I would like.

I believe the problem with XScreensave is the improper operation of
/usr/bin/xscreensaver.kss. Has anyone got the xscreensaver option
working? And do you have a "good" xscreensaver.kss?

The way kde executes the xscreensaver modules is by executing
either the xscreensaver program or the module each time - i.e.
xscreensaver is not run as a daemon.

If kde provides the randomization then the current way of executing
xscreensaver program (on demand) would work.

jwz the author of xscreensaver in the past has not been exactly happy
with the way kde has handled xscreensaver and I am glad that it
appears kde is treating it correctly!

KDE3.1 and woody crash

2003-01-26 Thread Christian Traber
Hi!
I installed KDE3.1 from http://devel-home.kde.org/~nolden/kde/woody/. on
my woody.
My previous KDE Version (3.0.5a) worked without problems!

Now if I start KDE3.1, after a few seconds, (for example if I move a
window) everything freezes, I can still move the mouse pointer but
no mouse or keyboard input is taken.
I can only reset the system:-(
I can't find any reason in the logfiles.

(My system is a AthlonXP with Nvidia GeForce2 and newest nvidia driver)
Has anyone else such a problem with KDE3.1 and woody?
Thanks and regards
Christian

Yes.

xscreensaver-nognome does depend on xscreensaver. So does xscreensaver-gnome.

xscreensaver depends on xscreensaver-gnome | xscreensaver-nognome, and those
two packages conflict with each other (i.e. installing xscreensaver package
will pick one, probably xscreensaver-gnome unless you already have, or are
installing xscreensaver-nognome).

Bleh, that doesn't read very nice. Anyway, gnome users should use
xscreensaver-gnome, kde users should use xscreensaver-nognome. IMHO,
apt-get-ing the xscreensaver package may pick the wrong one of these by
default.

Try using tag KDE_3_1_BRANCH instead, that will include the most current
updates to the debian-specific files. (Specifically, the RELEASE tag
never moves but the BRANCH tag does when you update files).

With the KDE you are using, you have to install an older version of libfam0

building packages from CVS

Hi,

I'm trying to build packages on Debian unstable with sources from the
KDE cvs, tag KDE_3_1_0_RELEASE (using this tag is ok, isn't it?). arts
and kdelibs build fine, but kdebase fails (at the very end, after
compilation completed) with a problem of the konqueror.desktop not
existing (cp cannot stat it). Any help on this? (I dont have the logs at
hand to give more info at the moment...)

Thanks.

Someone has been running deb-make on that program, but never fixed up the
"example" files generated. In my opinion that program does not make a
particularly good debianisation for KDE programs, since you need to do quite
a lot of hand editing.

> Now running lintian...

You can always run lintian with the -i option to get longer descriptions.

Just remove all those files. Except for maybe menu.ex, which you can edit and
remove the ".ex" from.

> W: kbiff source: out-of-date-standards-version 3.5.2

You have to read the new standard and upgrade with whatever is needed.
That package is debianised with an old template from deb-make

> E: kbiff source: debian-files-list-in-source

I have no idea what that is.

> E: kbiff: package-has-a-duplicate-relation xlibs (>> 4.1.0), xlibs (>>
> 4.2.0)

All this refers to shlibs. The easiest to get it right is to do
dh_makeshlibs -V
 and later
dh_dhlibdeps -ldebian/kbiff/usr/lib
... but the exact argument for the latter depends on other things in the
"rules" file.

 Finished running lintian.

> For the .ex file, I could remove them, but for the lib, I don't

For KDE packages there should be no Build-Depends: on xlibs in the
debian/control file. xlibs is automatically included in the Depends if you
Build-Depend on kdelibs4-dev, which in turn depends on libqt, which in turn
depends on all kind of other stuff.

For the Build-depends you have to be careful to depend on the correct version
of automake. The way to figure out that is to do "head Makefile.in", and the
version is in one of the top lines. Then you have to depend on that version
of automake, and furthermore use that version for configure in the following
fashion:

AUTOMAKE=automake-1.5  ./configure $(configkde)

configkde contains the strings that KDE needs. They are setup up by
admin/debianrules, a kind of help file that give strings that KDE need.
Unfortunately it now does not give much more than configkde any more. I have
my own version that does much more useful stuff. Stuff that you otherwise
have to include in every debian/rules file.

Klipper stopped working! (No longer expands "%s"!?)

2003-01-26 Thread Bill Kendrick

Hi all. I'm new to the debian-kde list, so sorry if this has come up already.

I'm running Debian Woody with the KDE 2.2.2 that's part of Woody's default
packages. I did an apt-get update/upgrade today (January 25, 2003), and
noticed a bunch of KDE packages were upgraded. I didn't think much of it.
(They were coming from security.debian.org, of course.)

Immediately after that, however, I discovered that the Konqueror-launching
command that I use as one of the URL-handling actionions in Klipper no longer
works! :^(

Previously (earlier today, and for months prior), if I highlighted an
URL in Konsole or another program, I'd get a pop-up window near the Klipper
icon on the taskbar asking what I want to do with the URL. I'd select the
'Open with Konqueror' option, and Konq would appear and load the page.

Today, however, I now get a pop-up dialog with the following error message:

Unable to run the command specified. The
  file or directory file:/home/kendrick/%s
  does not exist.

I popped into the #kde channel on irc.kde.org (Freenode), and asked if anyone
knew what was up. One person commented that it should be working, but to
try the following dcop magic instead, to see if it works until whatever is
wrong with Klipper can be fixed:

  dcop `dcop | grep konqueror | head -1` default 'createNewWindow(QString)' '%s'
  || kfmclient exec '%s'

(all one line, of course)

If I run that command from Konsole (replacing '%s' with an URL like
http://www.kde.org/) it works fine. (Both when Konqueror is already running,
and when it's not.)

If I try to use it for an Action command in Klipper, however, I get this error:

  Malformed URL
  %s

:^( It looks like Klipper is suddenly no longer expanding "%s" to the
actual clipboard contents!

I'm using Qt 2.3.1, KDE 2.2.2 and Klipper 0.9.1.
(I'm not sure what version of Klipper I was using prior to the apt-get upgrade)

Note: In both cases (both for the 'dcop' magic above, and for the regular
"kfmclient exec '%s'"), I've tried using both single-quotes ('%s'),
double-quotes ("%s"), and no quotes (%s).

I even tried making a dummy command for the URL action, which simply does:

  echo %s > /tmp/foo

Upon examining /tmp/foo after clicking an URL and choosing that command,
the file does indeed NOT contain the URL I highlighted. It simply contains:

  %s

<:^(

What's up!? Thx!

-bill!
