KDE 4.1 printing
Hi, I cannot print with KDE programs. When i press the print button, the application freezes. It happens in all KDE 4.1 programs like konqueror, kontact, kwrite etc... I do not get usefull messages in the .xsession-error file. I did not find any hits when searching in the repository for kde4 print, i only found kdeprint, but that's for 3.5. (And i did not get it to work with 4.1) Is printing broke or do i something wrong ? Regards, Ferdinand -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Re: Why KDE4 ktorrent in Lenny?

The only missing feature is RSS plugin. So basically there are two reasons ktorrent2.2 package exists: 1) For users who do not want to install KDE4 runtime libraries. 2) For users who can't live without RSS plugin. Read /usr/share/doc/ktorrent/README.Debian What is more, KTorrent is not an official KDE package. It can also be used as a standalone application on any desktop environment/window manager where KDE 3 vs. KDE 4 argument does not matter. > And it crashes. A lot. Report bugs with proper backtraces. It has been rock solid for me for a long time and I basically use it 24/7. Your bugs might help to get later ktorrent 3.1.x upstream bug fix release into Lenny. > What am I missing? I don't understand why this piece of KDE 4 > is being pushed prematurely. KTorrent 3.x series has already had TWO major stable releases, both of them with new features and improvements in core code arguably resulting into better performance. ktorrent 2.2.7 is unmaintained and aging hence it might start to be banned from trackers soon. Do not forget that Lenny lifetime is long. > Most users will simply have to > downgrade to ktorrent2.2. It is interesting that you say "downgrade" here. That's another reason 3.1.x is the default. By the way, your "most users" claim is not backed up. Actually my opinion is contrary that most users won't downgrade. However, I *do* understand your arguments, so you have a choice and you are not forced to upgrade ktorrent 3 by installing ktorrent2.2. > Why not release ktorrent version 2.2 > in Lenny and maybe have a ktorrent3 package for anyone that wants > to play on the bleeding edge? It is by no way bleeding edge. It is a stable release. ktorrent2.2 will be gone from testing/unstable once Lenny is released and there will be no upgrade path to ktorrent 3 in the next Debian stable release for this package. -- Modestas Vainius <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

Works pretty fine for me :-/ -- Programming is really just the mundane aspect of expressing a solution to a problem. [KDE 4.1 backports] Bug in strigi? (libstrigiqtdbusclient0 et al.)
Hi, while trying the KDE4.1 backports on lenny (good job, thank you!) I've encountered a bug that seems to be in strigi. See KDE Bug #169584 [1]. The source of the bug _seems_ to be in libstrigiqtdbusclient0 which is in lenny (right?). So please, someone, tell me: Is this a bug I should report to the Debian BTS or not? If things are as bad as you say, then you should file bugs with the appropriate severity on ktorrent. At the moment there are no outstanding bugs of severity higher than normal, and only two normal bugs. David -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? I'm curious: What's the missing functionality of ktorrent 3.1.1? I've used it since it was the default, more or less, and I've found it stable, and with much more functionality that I need (I just needed to activate 2 plugins, and none of them is a must have for me). I don't do anything special with torrents, but I've downloaded a lot of stuff without problems, though. Maybe it's a plugin that is compromising stability. -- Alex (a.k.a. suy) | GPG ID 0x0B8B0BC2 http://barnacity.net/ | http://disperso.net -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". My question is why are we defaulting Lenny users to ktorrent 3.1.1 which will only result in frustration and cause thousands of users to have to manually remove ktorrent and install ktorrent2.2? It would be much more helpful if Lenny shipped with ktorrent at version 2.2.7. ktorrent 3.1.1 could be packaged as ktorrent3, so that it is available to people who want to try KDE4 but without annoying people who need a usable ktorrent. The Debian KDE team has wisely decided to provide KDE3 as the default in Lenny, with KDE4 as an option. Ktorrent goes against this policy and the result is (I choose these words deliberately) disfunctional, buggy, fragile, and ugly. I don't know how well ktorrent 3.1.1 behaves when surrounded by a full KDE4 install, but I can tell you that "apt-get install ktorrent" in KDE3 Lenny gives a ktorrent which is painful and embarrassing. FWIW I did an "apt-cache search ktorrent" to see if the missing functionality was available in additional packages, perhaps as plugins, but no joy there either. --Mike Bird -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
