Actually, that seems to be inaccurate. If you look at the bug for the gcc-5
transition[1] you'll see numerous suggestions for help, including a person who
was able to build the package, and about two weeks ago, a Debian Developer
offering to do a non-maintainer update (NMU); but the package maintainers have
not responded.

It should be noted that there are other serious problems in the package -- for
example, it seems to depend on an obsolete version of GStreamer[2] -- but as
far as I'm aware, none of these other problems affect the rest of the system in
a similar way (forcing a choice between Digikam and updating the rest of the
system).

Shai.

Dear Maintainer,

I've changed the Dolphin configuration to let the preview side bar appear.
This didn't happen, instead Dolphin crashes again and again. Here's the dbg
output:

With a newly created user, this doesn't happen, so I assume the config
files are damaged. Purging ~/.local/share/dolphin wasn't successful,
after each start (and crash) the folder is back again.

Bug#800821: dolphin: Dolphin KPart no longer working on Konqueror

2015-10-03 Thread Tom Maneiro
Package: dolphin
Version: 4:15.08.1-1
Severity: important

Recently after one of my daily dist-upgrade cycles on my Testing laptop, I've
noticed that Konqueror only offers Terminal and FSView views, defaulting to the
latter (which looks kinda cool, but it's pretty much useless for daily usage).
No other views are offered under the view menu.

After studying for a bit, it turns out that Konqueror depends on Dolphin for
implementing the normal folder views. Cool, Dolphin is actually installed, and
works standalone, but not from inside Konqueror. I haven't modified any setting
since the (admittedly rough) transition to KDE5. Looks like Konqueror somehow
can't even see the relevant Dolphin KPart at all.

What I've tried so far?

- Reinstalling Dolphin: no luck

- Moving away my .kde directory (which doesn't seem to be used lately for
almost every KDE application except for Konqueror): still no luck

- Restarting KDE: sounds dunb, but there are still some stuff that is kinda
broken but gets fixed after a restart. Not this, sadly.

This has become annoying to me since Konqueror is my "daily driver" for file
management tasks when I'm on KDE - Dolphin is simply too underpowered for my
tastes, but it's amusing (to say the least) to learn that Konqueror needs
Dolphin nowadays for doing its thing. Anyway, dunno about filling this bug
report under Konqueror or Dolphin package, so I'm reporting under the latter
for now.

Digikam

Does anyone have any experience of installing/running the tarball version on
Debian unstable?

Or would Ubuntu packages be better?

I'm doing my best to maintain a pure Debian system, but I could really do with
Digikam again. I suppose an alternative would be a chroot, then I could wipe it
if/when Digikam becomes installable again.

mail indexing moved to akonadi-search (renamed baloo), but with my self-
compiled KDEPIM it doesn´t work either for now. Didn´t look closer to it.
