I had a similar issue with an out-going mail stucked for a very long time.
(on a Debian Jessie box) The stucked mail was not shown in the outbox.

For me, in the options -> configure kmail ("KMail einrichten") -> "Zugänge"
-> sending mails ("Versand"), sending mails in the outbox ("Nachrichten im
Postausgang senden:") changing to 'always when fetching mails' ("Bei allen
Abholvorgängen") at least gets rid of stucked mails when I fetch mails the
next time. (The english texts are guessed, I do not want to restart with
other locales. Shouldn't be too hard to find.)

Hope that helps.

If webkit could get security support again, that would be a huge benefit! So
basically KDE has the same justification as chromium.

But I would be happy with a backport, too.

The article is only talking about sid. So the repo does not really help with

Thanks for the encouraging information.

I would highly appreciate any improvement of kmail2 compared as to it is in
jessie, especially through backports. Are there any plans to upload a newer
kmail2 into jessie-backports?

kmail2 is currently unusable for me. A "Could not create collection" error,
maybe 305987, prevents kmail to do the initial sync of disconnected imap.

@Martin: Have you tried to build the latest kdepim as debian package (e.g.
by copying the debian folder of kdepim as in jessie)? Would be good to have
a (temporary) kmail2 solution w/o /usr/local installation. Which packages
did you rebuild? I presume akonadi, KDEPIMLIBS, KDEPIM-RUNTIME and KDEPIM?
(and not kdelibs soprano strigi nepomuk-core nepomuk-widgets kactivities
kde-runtime)

Markus

Wheezy Security Support

2014-09-29 Thread Markus Raab
Hello,

The newly arrived debian-security-support package claims that for a number
of kde packages there is no more security support for wheezy.

Is this true? "No security support upstream and backports not feasible" is
double negated, so actually it says there must be a security support?

Are there any plans for new kde packages, either in wheezy or in wheezy-
backports? Is it possible to give any dates?

best regards,
Markus

Kde 4.11 in backports?

2013-05-30 Thread Markus Raab
Hello List!

Thanks for maintaining the kde packages in such good quality, you are doing
a great job.

I heard from rhonda that a new version of kde will arrive to wheezy-
backports sooner or later. Is this true?

Is there any schedule for doing so?

Do the news of 4.11 being a long term release[0] influence the decision
which version will be added to the backports archive?

I personally would love to see a maintained kde 4.11 for wheezy.

best regards
Markus

I would not forget backports as "rolling release" for stable. I am looking
forward to wheezy lifetime if backports are more used when they are directly

openoffice background bug

2007-03-13 Thread Markus Raab
There is a little annoying bug in openoffice in kde.

If you open a second openoffice file in e.g. konqueror it opens the file in
background and it stays there. (the first one works well)

The other bug is when using openoffice.org-kde: Hints are not displayed, if
you
hover over a button the expected tooltip does not appear.

openoffice quick starter for kde dropped out?

Thank you very much for your work on etch, the upgrade worked gracefully

No audio support

2006-07-24 Thread Markus Petermann
Hello,

I have a problem with the audio output of KDE 3.5.3 (the KDE version
currently used by Debian Etch Testing): There is absolutely no sound output.

After the first launch of KDE I got a pop-up with the error message:

"Sound server information message:
Error while initializing sound driver:
device: default can't be opened for playback (No such device)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device."

I started "kcontrol / Sound / Sound System / Hardware" and activated the
ALSA sound system. I installed the remaining alsa packages and ran
alsaconf. Then I used alsamixer and unmuted all channels (both actions
as root). I also used alsamixer as normal user and of cause kmix - no
effect.

Due to Bug report #362282 I replaced libasound2 with version 1.0.11-7 -
no effect.

After this I used the module-assistent to build the ALSA module drivers,
installed them and run alsaconf and alsamixer again - no effect.

I have two remarks concerning this issue:
1. The ALSA sound system works with Debian Sarge.
2. I tested two other distributions (Kubuntu 6.06 and SusSE 10.1) in the
last weeks: I had no sound on both distributions. On Ubuntu 6.06
(using GNOME) audio is available (but I have no idea about the used
sound system).

Here is a dump of the loaded sound modules:

libqt-mt.a

2004-07-05 Thread Markus
Hi,
why is there no Qt package in Debian sarge/sid with the static lib of
Qt (libqt-mt.a)? Debian woody has this static lib, but it's Qt2.
What should i do, if i want to compile a Qt app with static libs?
Do you know some sources were i can get the static Qt libs for Debian sid?

Thanks!
Markus!

kde menu structure

2004-04-29 Thread Markus
Hi!
i'm using KDE and gnome.
If i look into the gnome application menu it's really clear and there are
only the gnome programs.
But if i look in the KDE menu there are all programs mixed together. I
think this is really confusing, if i use kde i want a clear application
menu withe the kde apps.
For example if i look in the "Settings" menu there is the
kde-control-center and the gnome-control-center.
I think it would be much better if the kde menus would be as clear as the
gnome menus.

Cheers!

Does someone knew a KDE source for debian sarge?
The base sources from sarge are very incomplete. Some packages are missing.

k3b cdrecord

2004-01-10 Thread Markus Henrich
Hello!
I'm using woody and k3b 0.10.3. Everything in k3b is configured with the
setup-tool. I give rights for cdrecord, usw. to a group wich I belong to.
But when I start k3b now as a user, the error message "couldn't find
cdrecord" appeared. Changing the rights of cdrecord to be executed by a
user, k3b gives the message, that cdrecord only can be used with root.

So how could I solve this problem. Any ideas?

Greetings
Markus

Kopete 0.7-1 don't go online :-(

2003-08-07 Thread Markus Hofmann
Hello all

I've updated my 0.6 kopete to 0.7-1 from
http://kopete.creativa.cl/debian/woody for my woody.

After this update my kopete starts. It also downloads my contact list, but it
doesn't go online. I have done everything what I think that could help.
I also removed an reinstalled my kopete, but the problem is still there.

Does anyone have an idea?

best regards

Problems with KDE

2002-09-13 Thread Markus Hansen
Hi.

I have KDE 2.2.2 on my computer and (nearly) everything works just fine.

Eccept for 2 things:

1) I can click on the DVD icon, it mounts and tries to start konqueror, but
konqueror does not open!

2) Using konqueror for webbrowsing, it often uses too small fontswhich I
cannot change!

I found out:
In Control Center/Country & Language I cannot
enter a charset, the line is always empty.
I also can't do this in konqueror.
These functions 1) click icon 2) use the right size for Fonts and the line in
charset do work, using another user.
But as my computer is used as a one-person-pc I have a very nice
userenvironment and it would take very long to put everything into the
another profile. If I would just copy every file I think I would also copy
the errors which occur.
I think the problem can be solved by changing something in
/home/user/.kde, but I don't know that much about KDE to know what to do.
Has anyone an idea?

Thank you very much and regards
Markus

Konqueror problem

2001-04-09 Thread Markus Wollgarten
Hi all

and sorry for asking again, but here it is a problem. I would like to
know, whether there exists an easy way to stop konqueror from polling
the directory contents from mounted volumes. In the case of a smbmounted
windows share this polling puts a lot of load on the windows server
which in turn the administrator dislikes a lot (and in addition brings
the linux community here in a bad position :-( ).

Your help is really appreciated,

Markus Wollgarten

polling by konqueror

2001-04-06 Thread Markus Wollgarten
Hello everybody,

it seems that konqueror expects the File Alteration Monitor and so it's falling
back
to polling directories for their content since Debian Linux has no fam/imon
support.
This puts a lot of unnecessary load on our network. What to do? ( I do not want
recompile everything :-))

Thanks a lot for the help!

Markus
