Bug#689167: ITP missing for package sweethome3d-furnitures-nonfree with RFS 689167 with ITP in title
Hi, According to [0], sweethome3d-furnitures-nonfree has not its corresponding ITP bug, despite #689167 title. Please, could you file this ITP bug? Thanks for your work! Bug#682519: Quick notes
First of all, let me say thank you for beginning the work to package this in Debian! Wow... this is a solid package: * You have a man page. * It's lintian clean. * /usr/bin/fbcmd doesn't have a .php extension. How did you even manage to make such an excellent package!? I can't find anything terribly wrong with it. A few questions: * You embed a copy of a jsonwrapper PHP module in /usr/share/fbcmd/facebook/jsonwrapper. Should that be in PEAR? and/or does fbcmd work with PHP's built-in JSON stuff? Just trying to minimize dependencies, especially embedded copies of them. * A few scripts seem not useful for Debian users, namely: /usr/share/fbcmd/fbcmd_update.php /usr/share/fbcmd/support/test_php.php -- should those simply not be installed? * Why does 'man fbcmd' not mention LOADINFO but /usr/share/fbcmd/support/sample-loadinfo-text.php does? * Is /usr/share/doc/fbcmd/filelist.txt relevant to Debian users? This is looking great. Great work on the copyright file, too. Hope you can answer those questions, and again amazing work. -- Asheesh. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-mentors-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Hi Albert, I had a look at libticonv at mentors uploaded there on 2012-09-29 03:28. They're also in addition to Bart's comments (which are, as usual, fantastic) I believe this should target experimental, not unstable - this is a new upstream release with a lot of changes (can't remember of what order it was, but either 8K or 80K lines in the debdiff) There are also fixes that are not minimal in the upload, so I'd encourage three points: - Before any sponsor uploads this, please get a statement from the release team ACKing (in theory, at least) this change. - If they refuse to allow this to migrate, please retarget to experimental. Please also take a look to see if you may port some of the bugfixes you're introducing here back to the old code. - If they allow it, it'd be nice to poke this thread to let us know :) On Wed, Sep 26, 2012 at 09:49:39PM -0400, Albert Huang wrote: Before that Bart Martens wrote: I read this in README : | (A special exception applies when linking the library into TilEm, see | the COPYING file for details.) Hello, Upstream forgot to use his reply all button, so I'm forwarding his message accordingly. Basically, a few key points: - According to upstream, the debian/copyright comment that I've placed in is valid. - Benjamin Moody and Lionel Debroux are indeed upstream maintainers. - The exception is now invalid, does not apply to the current packages, and will eventually be dropped in the upstream VCS (and future releases). That said, should I still change the debian/copyright to include the exception, or go with upstream and leave it as is? Thanks! Albert -- Forwarded message -- From: Lionel Debroux lionel_debr...@yahoo.fr Date: Mon, Oct 1, 2012 at 4:01 PM Subject: Re: libticonv at mentors To: Albert Huang alberth.deb...@gmail.com Hi Albert, About this in README, and the details missing in COPYING : | (A special exception applies when linking the library into TilEm, see the | COPYING file for details.) However, he is the current upstream for the TilEm program, and he may know a bit of the history behind it. Nevertheless, I'll leave the current libticonv upstream to decide. The SCM log mentions Benjamin as the source of the patch for for e.g. SVN r4418, which is before 1.16. That, in my opinion, makes him an author. It's a contribution to users. All that matters is that he added a (minor) feature. Having 100% accurate copyright information is impossible in a 10+-year-old code base where said information was, AFAICT, not tracked properly by the previous maintainers; I cannot pretend that I didn't let any mention of authorship slip, though I tried to put such information in the commit messages... And I don't find his name as an author or as a copyright holder. Both Benjamin and I are, indeed. The funny thing is that it was Lionel Debroux who added this exception in README on 2009-11-24. At the time I added this bit to the README, it had already existed for a long time at other places, but not this one. The non-free TilEm 0.9x (made years before my time as the maintainer) still made sense, and therefore, the exception still made sense; but nowadays, in 2012, with the advent of the TilEm 2.x, which is fully free software, the exception does no longer make sense. The forwards-looking fix is, AFAICT from the previous round of discussion by e-mail, which you correctly put in the debian/copyright file, to drop the exception. Debian is never going to package those very outdated, and what's more non-free, versions anyway. I believe though that the project ownership has been transferred to Lionel Debroux, so he may have more authority on copyright decision. Project co-maintainership was transferred to me, indeed. Bye, Lionel.
Help with patching PackageKit for *BSD

The problem is this code: http://gitorious.org/packagekit/packagekit/blobs/master/lib/packagekit-glib2/pk-spawn-polkit-agent.c On *BSD I get: pk-spawn-polkit-agent.c:24:23: fatal error: sys/prctl.h: No such file or directory compilation terminated. make[5]: *** [libpackagekit_glib2_la-pk-spawn-polkit-agent.lo] Error 1 But I don't know how to solve this otherwise. Hints and patches welcome! this is really the only issue which blocks PK on kFreeBSD at time. Many thanks for any help! Re: Help with patching PackageKit for *BSD
Hi! I don't think this is the right place to request this help, but I don't know a better one at time... (RFH seems to be too big) The problem is the following: PackageKit (Debian package src:packagekit) recently became Linux-specific by accident, and I need someone who knows *BSD/portable-programming better than I do to make it compile on *BSD again. The problem is this code: http://gitorious.org/packagekit/packagekit/blobs/master/lib/packagekit-glib2/pk-spawn-polkit-agent.c On *BSD I get: pk-spawn-polkit-agent.c:24:23: fatal error: sys/prctl.h: No such file or directory compilation terminated. make[5]: *** [libpackagekit_glib2_la-pk-spawn-polkit-agent.lo] Error 1 [...] Well, the use of prctl is inherently unportable. So instead of having the forked agent set up a signal in case of death of the parent, install a proper signal handler right in the parent's code that kills all forked agents (so keep a container containing all agent pids) upon reception of a signal. IIRC a process group will make the maintainence easier. You may want to check negative values in kill(2). Michael Tautschnig m...@debian.org wrote: Hi! IIRC a process group will make the maintainence easier. You may want to check negative values in kill(2). [...] Yes, but if going this route make sure you set up your own process group - otherwise you might be killing your parent as well. Best, Michael pgpWik4D8FAKA.pgp Description: PGP signature
