Bug#266760: kde: kde crashes X when quitting

I know this isn't a solution, as once X dies, it is usually not possible to get the display back, but it would tell us if it is just X crashing or if the kernel is crashing too. Josh

Bug#266553: kget: it crashes at initialization stage (signal 11).
Package: kget Version: 4:3.3.0-1 Followup-For: Bug #266553 Hello, In my opinion, this bug has nothing to do with the config file as reported earlier. It seems, that the root of the bug is usage of an uninitialized variable. Just try launching kget several times one after another. Most likely it'll fail with the error mentioned ealier in this report, but eventually it'll start up emitting something similar to these non-fatal errors: QObject::connect: Cannot connect (null)::destroyed() to QTipManager::clientWidgetDestroyed() QObject::disconnect: Unexpected null parameter QObject::connect: Cannot connect (null)::destroyed() to QTipManager::clientWidgetDestroyed() I think, this is a right place to start tracking down the bug. I'll continue my investiation later today. P.S. strace provides some useful information, why kget gets signal 11. Actually, a child process spawned by kget segfaults. Bug#266760: kde: kde crashes X when quitting
Package: kdebase-bin Version: 4:3.3.0-1 Severity: critical File: kde Justification: breaks the whole system I've had this problem for weeks if not months, and it is very annoying. I haven't been able to locate _exactly_ where the problem comes from, but it happens very often that, when I quit KDE (be it by logging out, restarting or turning off my computer), the screen becomes black with the mouse pointer centered, and everything freezes. I then have no choice but to power off my system manually. The only thing I'm sure about is that the problem is somewhere in the base packages of KDE: this bug only happens when I use KDE (I've been using gnome, xfce4 and others to test X, but this *never* happened with others window/desktop managers), and closing all apps before exiting makes no change. I've rebuilt some of my packages with apt-build (never using higher levels than -02 plus a few extra "safe" options) and I wondered if this had something to do with the unstability of my system under KDE, but I don't think so; since I use apt-get dist-upgrade on a daily basis, surely most of - if not all - those packages have long since been replaced. Dying to read a solution ... KDE is such a great environment with such great apps, but this is really getting on my nerves. Bug#266742: kdelibs: ipv6-lookup problem again?
Package: kdelibs Version: 4:3.3.0-1 Severity: important Some web sites take an insane amount of time to load, e.g. www.golem.de . In the past this often has been an issue with the --with-ipv6-lookup option in the debian/rules file, see http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2002/07/msg00109.html or http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2002/10/msg00250.html . It seems as though the kdelibs package is build with '--with-ipv6-lookup=auto' while I think that '--with-ipv6-lookup=no' would be better (at least for me...) BTW, Mozilla, Opera etc. *do* load www.golem.de with reasonable speed. I quote from http://people.debian.org/~jaldhar/make_package2.html : "Use this if your program absolutely will not run unless a particular package is present." Furthermore is still consider wasting 1MB of disk space quite a lot. If every package would have such a behavior this would be some 300MB. Currently I'm compiling kdepim from deb-src to see wether there are any difficulties in creating an kaddressbook as I have proposed before.
Bug#266633: kontact: Doesn't start
Hi. This is quite probably related to the kontact 3.2 / kdelibs 3.3 mix. If so, it should not block kontact 4:3.2.3-1 from staying in sarge (since it is expected that kdelibs 4:3.2.3-x will stay in sarge also). Though the bug presumably came with the kdelibs upgrade (not the kontact upgrade), so I'm not sure what BTS tag is appropriate in such a scenario. b.

I hope you can remove other packages that are in the official kde modules, so they are included in the other metapackages: - juk: now in kdemultimedia - kopete: now in kdenetwork - kcachegrind: now in kdesdk - kgpg: now in kdeutils - vimpart: now in kdeaddons - umbrello: now in kdesdk There are other packages, like mp3kult, that maybe should be removed too, because are orphaned. Thanks. -- Alex (a.k.a. suy) - GPG ID 0x0B8B0BC2 http://darkshines.net/ - Jabber ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#266478: KDE 3.3 is not released by upstream, and unfit for sarge

Well, this bug report was not meant for talking over it (for that, there was a mail by Steve), but just for telling britney: Hey, don't push this into sarge. > We all know that there are pros and cons for uploading 3.3, right? Then, if > you want 3.2 to be in Sarge, try to justify why the cons are more important > than the pros. > > Again, IMVHO, the major issues with 3.2, are upstream bugs, and upstream is > not backporting their bugfixes to KDE_3_2_BRANCH, so it's not that bat idea > try to make 3.3 into sarge. It will have problems, of course, but I think > they will be less that 3.2. Well, feel free to discuss with the RMs how to sort this issue out, and if there is a way to allow 3.3 to be in sarge. However, just uploading a new major version without even speaking with the release team, and breaking the tiff-transition is definitly not best practice. It's not that I prefer 3.2 in sarge - the current status is just that 3.2 is in sarge, and a mix of 3.2 and 3.3 in sarge is IMHO worse than 3.2 only. You might of course disagree to this statement. And, as long as full 3.3 is not ready to enter sarge, there is no need to speak about prefering 3.2. If you feel more happy with titling this bug report "prevent a mixture of 3.2 and 3.3 in sarge", feel free to do it. Bug#266478: KDE 3.3 is not released by upstream, and unfit for sarge
El Miércoles, 18 de Agosto de 2004 00:52, Andreas Barth escribió: > kdelibs 3.3 is not fit for inclusion into sarge. Reason: Will cause a > lot of breakage, and a heavy delay in the release plan. Also, 3.3 is > not released till now by upstream, but only betas are available. Well, that's not completely accurate. See: http://webcvs.kde.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/kdelibs/ At the bottom of the page, you can select the desired branch/tag. You will see a KDE_3_3_0_RELEASE tag, and a KDE_3_3_BRANCH branch, so yes, KDE 3.3 is released by upstream, but the official announcement is waiting for packagers. Usually they release their tarballs first to packagers, and wait a bit until there are enough mirrors. > Actually, this upload should never have happened. OK, that's another point, but in my very humble opinion, a bug report, isn't the best way for talking about that. We all know that there are pros and cons for uploading 3.3, right? Then, if you want 3.2 to be in Sarge, try to justify why the cons are more important than the pros. Again, IMVHO, the major issues with 3.2, are upstream bugs, and upstream is not backporting their bugfixes to KDE_3_2_BRANCH, so it's not that bat idea try to make 3.3 into sarge. It will have problems, of course, but I think they will be less that 3.2. If you and/or the release team wants 3.2 into Sarge, make sure that at least somebody can help with this. (You can simply send your ssh key to [EMAIL PROTECTED], and they will give you access to their CVS repository) Greetings. -- Alex (a.k.a. suy) - GPG ID 0x0B8B0BC2 http://darkshines.net/ - Jabber ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
