OK, I have done that:

3) move to sarge
aptitude -f dist-upgrade want to remove konqueror

Bug#307202: More detail

2005-05-28 Thread David Taylor
I wish to add that I am using an Nvidia graphics card (nVidia Corporation NV18
[GeForce MX 440 AGP 8x]) using the Nvidia drivers (built from
nvidia-kernel-source 1.0.7174-3) and some unbranded generic monitor but has
happened since I first started using the nVidia drivers. This happens on
resolutions 1280x1024, 1280x960, 1024x760, 800x600 and downwards I presume.
It doesn't seem to occur with the basic nv drivers at 1024x760 but I have
never managed to put them on a resolution other than that.

This also seems to happen on the Politics, Health, Business, Wales, Scotland,
England, UK and World sections but not the Science and Nature, Education,
Northern Ireland News front page and Entertainment which are fine.

Thanks
DT

Bug#311092: negative unread messages number

2005-05-28 Thread Stefan Strasser
Package: knode
Version: 4:3.3.2-3
Severity: normal

I'm not sure why but I see negative number of unread messages after I've
fetched newsgroups articles.
After restarting Kontact the number is calculated correctly.
This may be related to the fact that I have set a few newsgroup
discussions to ignore.

After spending a dozen of hour tracking it, I have the obvious headache,
but also the following:

1) debootstrap woody

2) Install the following packages:
konqueror aptitude libqt3 libhtml-tree-perl libapt-pkg-perl libft-perl

3) point apt at sarge.

At this point you are between a rock and a hard place:
You can do
2) aptitude install aptitude, but that remove konqueror and perl
3) aptitude dist-upgrade, but that remove konqueror

As for the culprit, my headache does not allow me to investigate more,
but here some clues: In _woody_,

1) libqt3 has a circular dependency with libqt3-mt.
2) libhtml-tree-perl has a circular dependency with libwww-perl.

Did you install konqueror and libqt3 with aptitude, or with another tool?
If konqueror is installed with aptitude, allowing libqt3 to be pulled in
automatically, does aptitude do a better job of conflict resolution on
upgrade?

Bug#310873: A Prisonner of the dependency hell

Interestingly, not having libqt3 installed (after debootstrap, just
installing konqueror and aptitude) alleviates the problem to the point of
matching the results in http://release.debian.org/kde-upgrade.txt, which
explains why the issue was thought to be resolved.

Konqueror in Woody doesn't pull in libqt3 automatically, since KDE in Woody
still used Qt2.

 So, this works:

 aptitude markauto libqt3
 perl -pi -e's/stable/sarge/' /etc/apt/sources.list
 apt-get update
 aptitude dist-upgrade

A libqt3 dummy package, without dependencies, also seems to suffice to keep
Woody's aptitude from removing konqueror when performing a dist-upgrade. It
does nothing for apt-get and dselect, though, so it's not of much help
except to eliminate the need for aptitude users to ensure that libqt3 is
marked auto. Further work needed...

BTW, I'd like to thank Bill Allombert for all his help with this issue.

Cheers,
Christopher Martin
