Bug#599635: libqtgui4: Please change qt4-qtconfig Recommends to Suggests
Package: libqtgui4 Version: 4:4.6.3-3 Severity: normal libqtgui4, as a library, primarily gets pulled in by programs which depend on the library, rather than through explicit user installation. Thus, a Recommends on qt4-qtconfig seems excessively strong, particularly since Recommends get installed by default now. It seems reasonable to Suggests that the user might want qt4-qtconfig to change how qt programs look, but qt4-qtconfig does not seem like a package "that would be found together with this one in all but unusual installations". So you want to install ALL kde-l10n packages but you can't afford to install aptitude? What happened to using the right tool for the job? Even if you don't want to use aptitude for installation of packages, just use `aptitude search - F%p ` to get the list of packages and feed it wherever you want. And why do you need to remove it afterwards? It's not malicious and it's a tiny bit in comparison with what you're installing here. FWIW, I did my best to suggest a solution. I'm sorry, that aptitude is not an option for you for whatever the reason, but original request remains wontfix. As I said in the previous mail, I view kde-l10n-all package as bad practice in general. I simply don't want it to be in the archive (i.e. too easily accessible) in order to reduce very HUGE [1] (even -dbg packages are smaller) unintentional bloat on user systems. Metapackages are mostly for users. People like you or administrators who really know what they are doing and that they really want all languages can use the aptitude command above. -- Modestas Vainius signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.
Bug#566120: kde-l10n: please provide kde-l10n-all
Ana, since you forgot to CC me with your last answer, i never got it. please don't forget to cc submitters when replying to bugs. regarding the bug: if i want to create a live system that has all localizations for kde, i have two possibilities now which are equally bad: * look up the package names for all kde-l10n packages for a specific release and list them. this has problems: - when there are new translations added in newer releases, i have to maintain that list and constantly update it. - i have to maintain different lists for different debian releases. - it's a manual process. * look up the packge names by e.g. running some apt-cache search foo and extract the packages names from that. this is bad since it's a useless additional logic needed that can be avoided in the first place. the right thing to do, as several other -l10n packages in debian do since long time, is to have a -l10n-all meta package depending on all of the translations. that way, we can just install that package and be done with it. hope that is enough to explain, let me know if you need it more verbose :) -- Address:Daniel Baumann, Burgunderstrasse 3, CH-4562 Biberist Email: daniel.baum...@panthera-systems.net Internet: http://people.panthera-systems.net/~daniel-baumann/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
