Re: Bug#251872: konqueror: I can't search from location bar

2004-11-09 Thread Matt Cahill

I noticed this post from early June, and thought I'd add my 2 cents.

A quick recap:

I can confirm this problem on Libranet (v2.8.1, relatively fresh install,
but updated w/ KDE 3.2 packages). It seems to be the default. If there's a
great difference between Libranet and vanilla-Debian that I'm not taking into
consideration, my apologies (to the best of my knowledge, they share the same
repositories, do they not?). Just thought I'd confer with the original
poster's situation.

Unlike the original poster, I looked here and found that the Search Engine was
set to 'none'. Switching it to Google (or another good engine) worked.
However, I've never had to do this before (on my previous non-Debian-based
distro). An oddity.

  Again - my 2 cents.

woohoo, you are absolutelly right, sorry, I reported two bug at the same time
yesterday and it seems I made a confusion between their severity.
Sorry again.

That's what I thought first, but I have the same problem with a fresh new
system user who just logged in.

Yes, you are right again, it doesn't proceed http://www..com but
http://.
(I definitelly shouldn't report two bugs at the same time).

> and selecting google as a preferred search
> engine, performs a google search.

I've just made some more tests, some of them work, some others don't work.
tests where word aren't searched with default engine :
- debian
- assiettes
- fourchettes
- girl
- france
- browser
- security
- bug
- microsoft

tests where words are searched with default engine :
- mail
- konqueror
- debian konqueror
- assiettes fourchettes
- microsoft bug

It seems that the search is always proceed when I write at least two words.
It seems it nearly never works with only one word : I don't understand why it
works with "konqueror" and "mail". Maybe it works with some other word, but I
don't see any explanation for this strange behaviour.

> Please, tell us exactly which string are you typing, and what is your

The box "enable web shortcuts" is check.
default search engine is google
delimiter is ':'
Below is the file ~/.kde/share/config/kuriikwsfilterrc :

[$Version]
update_info=kuriikwsfilter.upd:post-kde3.1/cvs

[General]
DefaultSearchEngine=google
EnableWebShortcuts=true
KeywordDelimiter=58

I hope it's not a problem from me, but since it has the same behaviour with
new system user, I think it's not.
I hope it helps.

Please, check how the severity levels work. An important bug, is only when the
bug make the package close to unusable.

The last update of konqueror, was on 2004-04-11, so probably you changed
something in the configuration.

I'm sorry, but I can't confirm this behaviour. With the default configuration,
writing a word in the location bar, and pressing return, says that the URL is
wrong, and selecting google as a preferred search engine, performs a google
search.

Please, tell us exactly which string are you typing, and what is your
configuration: Settings -> Configure konqueror -> Web Shortcuts.

2004-05-31 Thread jjluza
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:3.2.2-1
Severity: important

Hello,
If I try to look for a word using a search engine (like google for
example) by writting a word in the location bar, it tries to load the
page www..com, which is a recent behaviour (it works properly one
month ago, I think).
It works if I write "gg: a_word" in the location bar, but since we can
select a default search engine, I would like to use it.
Thanks.
