I'm unable to get the right redirection using .htaccess file. What I
have is this

URL http://example.com/?lang=ar&;
or
http://example.com/?lang=ar®istration

and I would like this to be redirected to http://example.com/ .

In fact I would like to have all URL's which contain "lang=" to be
redirected to http://example.com .

any hints?

thank you

todo :- The package should be updated to follow the last version of
Debian Policy (Standards-Version 3.9.2 instead of 3.7.3).

problems:- This package is neither part of unstable nor experimental.
This probably means that the package has been removed (or has been

probably the reporting script that got confused. Please check the

No - I thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken ;-p

If we can't disable wifi then we need to ensure it's working before
trying to "fix" the problem it appears to be causing hibernation.
Does the wifi work for you (under Debian)??
What is your wifi chipset??
If it requires ndiswrapper then it's a similar scenario to the Crystal

Does the wifi work for you (under Debian)??

Please post the contents of /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf

What do you use to handle wpa_supplicant's networks?? (eg. wicd,

Yes.
The point, which I failed to make, is that I can modify the database to
suit my own requirements, without being restricted to the music
player/collection manager interface. Amarok doesn't alter the actual
files and happily works with files in multiple locations.
All the other music players that I've tried don't work well with large
collections and/or don't allow me to use musicbrainz. Amarok can
directly use musicbrainz but doesn't stop me from using Picard as well.

The crash on closing I experience (Squeeze) may well be one of my dodgy
scripts - but as it doesn't reduce the functionality of Amarok I can
happily live with it.

Sort of like that, but on mine there's no built-in bluetooth. As I wrote

The switch for WiFi on this model is not on-off, it's just a reset button.
Can't turn off anything.

I just checked and you can't even turn WiFi off in the BIOS.

aptitude TUI. Once you get your head around the interface and its use, it is
a very powerful way to upgrade your system, including very fine-grained

Case in point: I use Kmail& Icedove, and want Iceape as my default

complies, but KMail keeps opening Konqueror. I seem to recall that
there was a way I could set up a default, but don't remember the

Since KMail is a KDE app you probably need to do the change in KDE's

Thanks - have now finally been able to get around to doing this.

Can you shine a light on why Konqueror is likely to have been assigned
100 as a priority number and how can I change that, especially since
doing the update and selecting Iceape didn't change the default browser
triggered from within KMail?

There are 5 choices for the alternative x-www-browser (providing
/usr/bin/x-www-browser).

  SelectionPath Priority Status

  0/usr/bin/konqueror 100 auto mode
  1/usr/bin/epiphany-browser 85manual mode
* 2/usr/bin/iceape 80manual mode
  3/usr/bin/iceweasel 70manual mode
  4/usr/bin/konqueror 100 manual mode
  5/usr/bin/swiftfox 70manual mode

Press enter to keep the current choice[*], or type selection number:

I only have a few KDE apps installed - KMail, KAddressbook, Amarok,
Konqueror and maybe a few KDE games, so unless I deliberately install
KDE Control Center (or whatever it is called) I will have to try and
adjust it via GNOME. I have already listed Iceape as my preferred
browser under the GNOME preferred applications option.

X bother consoles

2011-06-20 Thread maderios

Hi
After changing my hardware, a curious problem appeared with Wheezy and
Squeeze.
When starting X from a console, the space of the other consoles seem
"zoomed": the bottom of the console is not visible but I can always
return the data from the keyboard, "blindly".
The command 'setupcon' restores the normal console but when I restart
X, console is disturbed again. The graphic card is a Nvidia Quadro600 so
I tested kernel mode setting with the driver 'Nouveau': no problem. The
console doesnt seem disturbed because of the framebuffer . By cons,
as I have not intend to use Nouveau driver, I would like consoles back
normal. I tested also with another graphics card (MatroxP690, vesa
driver), same problem.

I dont understand how X server can change the consoles display.
Thank you for any help, ideas / suggestions on this oddity.
Maderios

Maybe you need to re-think your layout.

Since years I've been told that mixing environments (I mean, the two big
ones, GNOME and KDE) and their applications was not a problem. I've never
agreed with that possition and always tried to keep these two as separate
as possible to avoid problems.

Nowadays, GNOME and KDE are both needing from specific applications to be
launched and I find that -specially KDE- is starting (since KDE 4.x) to
make (ab)use of db backends for almost anything, for running your system
session and also applications.

In brief, I'm sure most of the users running a pure KDE environment do
not face all that problems. Well, yes, but that's another question and we
should add a new variable... KDE 4.6 is more stable than KDE 4.4, that's
another well-known fact ;-)

So calm down and go resolving your crashes with a high dose of patience.
But don't give up! "Patience is a virtue".

That depends... are you running Kmail from a KDE session or are you in
GNOME or...? Most of the KDE settings (like Akonadi/Nepomuk setup) are
configured from "User Settings" or whatever it is named now :-), so I
would start from that.

Greetings,

Hey Camaleón

That has definitely *not* been my experience given the number of issues
I've come to this list about and that is after a completely fresh
installation. It was reaching the point that I had begun to dread
logging out for fear of what I would find broken/ missing/ frozen the
next time I logged on. Hence the re-install to squeeze ... and guess
what? Yet another problem!

Any suggestions on how to do this, because so far - touch wood - this is
the only issue I've come across, but then again, the system has only
been running a couple of hours so there is still time.

Cheers

I've only reported two small bugs for two applications (quadrapassel and
gnibbles, a couple of gnome games) that seems to be solved for now and
currently I'm only seeing one glicth with gnome-keyring. But nothing more.

I'm running GNOME.

Seems not to be available in the GB version (and yes, Google has, I now
realise, customised mine to British English). I wonder why they think that
people speaking US English are going to be more paranoid than those of us

After fresh install to stable now KMail crashes

2011-06-20 Thread AG

Hello again

Taking prior advice on avoiding the apparently high degree of volatility
in the current testing, at least as far as my experience has been so
far, I reinstalled to stable (squeeze), and now after having configured
everything, so KMail starts to crash.

I can open it just fine and it runs for a bit and then once it has been
minised to the system tray it crashes.

Segfault on grub update

2011-06-20 Thread titantoppler
Hi list,

Did an upgrade on my computer running Wheezy today. grub-pc was one of the
packages that needed to be updated. However, it failed with a segfault
during the configuration.

Syslog has this to say:
Jun 20 20:34:59 argon kernel: [ 8265.445561] grub-probe[31617]: segfault at
14 ip 08077f0a sp bfd40b00 error 4 in grub-probe[8048000+3d000]

Tried to uninstall and reinstall grub2 + grub-pc (stupid, now I don't dare
to reboot the computer), but no dice - grub2 refuses to configure because of
grub-pc, grub-pc still segfaults.

Tried to run grub-install (with a --debug option):

+ /usr/sbin/grub-probe --device-map=/boot/grub/device.map --target=device
/boot/grub
Segmentation fault
+ grub_device=
+ exit 1
root@argon:/#

Any ideas on why this is happening?

Thanks.

Re: no keyboard in xorg after the change of runlevel

2011-06-20 Thread Lukas Baxa
Thanks, Sven. That was the problem. udev wasn't
restarted after the change of runlevel back.
I wanted to change the runlevel to single-user
because I wanted to remount my filesystems
on top of lvm read-only for a short time and
create lvm snapshots with consistent filesystems.
So I need to stop some daemons and processes
to be able to remount the filesystems read-only.
I'm going to stop only those services I need.

Unfortunately Aqualung has only a small subset of Amarok 2s
capabilities. And I've yet to find anything that matches Amarok - it
easily handles my 260GB music collection (53k+ songs (5130 albums) as
well as lyric files, photos, music videos, and album art - auto display
of Wikipedia entries for playing tracks - plugins for musicbrainz,
dozens of extension scripts, and it's easy to write more. It uses mysql
(or other) database and has extensive playlist capability.
As an added bonus it crashes every time I shut it down :-( But nothing
breaks, and nothing beats it.
Apart from crashing the new - built-in contact the developer feature
repeatedly lets you know they received your message - sort of like an
echo! :-D

Dunno - it's not "proven" it's the wireless yet.
Even then it depends on whether it does what it's supposed to do (not
the same as what we users might wish it to do).
eg. on one of my laptops the lack of a license for the sound card driver
means it's non-free - so the fact it doesn't work on resume could be
interpreted as broken behaviour(I've fixed it) - but it's not broken, it
was never designed to support that module in the first place.

>
> Additional info: apparently it's not actually suspending.

Makes sense considering the logs - I suspect it doesn't get to the point
where it starts writing the resume image.

Sounds right. Only way to break out it to hold down the power button -
or pull the battery (and ps)?.

20 minutes. If it takes longer than that, it's broken. Actually if it takes
longer than three minutes it's broken.

Doubtless there is another OS installed on your netbook. Use it to
determine the LAN adapter details. Post the details.

I had an issue tonight when upgrading.
Libre office didn't upgrade, it seemed to uninstall and I found it again in
'uninstalled packages'. Reinstalled it and I'm back in action.
I'm studying and submitting work done in Libre Office that is supposed to be
done in Word and none of them seem to be able to spot the difference.
If I'm late a day or two in submitting they don't seem to mind.
SID doesn't seem to be any different to what it is normally.
Freezing for a minute or two, but that's just part of it.

Weaver.

Maybe your card needs non-free firmware? Try the image with firmware.

Oh, if only it were that simple... Most internationalized websites
(including Google) seem to have completely given up on Accept-Language
headers[1] in favor of relying on IP geolocation. I'm an American expat
living in Sweden, so my browsers are set to send

Accept-Language: en-us, en, sv-se

Despite this, every time my Google cookie expires, it sends me the
Swedish version of the page. Setting language preferences on the client
side does *not* work[2] for Google or most other sites.

[1] apparently on the theory that "most users don't know how to set
their preferred lanuages, so the header specifies the browser's default
instead of the user's preference"

I had a similar problem with Italian where I actually want to perform
some searches in English, some in Italian. I made myself a simple custom

Maybe it can be helpful once modified to your use case...
