Re: Some documents on 3 PCs
Jochen Schulz skrev: During my studies, I had the same problem. First I tried unison, but I found it too cumbersome. Then I switched to SVN and didn't regret it. In the end I kept almost 1GB of data in my repository but common operations were still fast. Today, I would probably try one of those distributed VCSs like git because you cannot expect to always have network connectivity. But SVN still is a good choice, so if you already know it (or CVS, which is very similar) I propose you try that first. Thanks a lot for your input Jochen and Clifford. I'll look into more of SVN, VCS and Unison. It's very much appreciated. -- Venlig hilsen / Best regards Allan Dreyer Andersen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Some documents on 3 PCs
Hi all I have a laptop, a desktop both with Debian and another laptop provided by my work with Windows XP. Right now I'm copying my personal documents and pictures between these 3 PC and it's a hell. And from time to time I miss copying specific files with updates ... so there must be a better way to handle all this. Do you have some ideas how to solve this? I'm thinking to setup a server and some SVN system, but is this the best way solving it or do you have other suggestions? Thanks a lot in advance. -- Venlig hilsen / Best regards Allan Dreyer Andersen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Can't browse local network
Hey guys I must have messed something because suddenly I can't browse my local home network. I have reintalled samba, samba-common and added smbclient, smbfs but it doesn't change anything. Do I need to add other packages or can something else be wrong? Thanks in advance. -- Venlig hilsen / Best regards Allan Dreyer Andersen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Package version is 0.7.0 and Debian only is at 0.6.6 so guess I have to wait for a Debian package. There is a prerelease of 0.7.0 in experimental¹, it should be worth a try. Thanks for looking for this package. Perhaps I did something wrong here but it really did screw up my network - in fact I couldn't even connect to anything no matter if I used cable or not. Have also changed to unstable - didn't make any difference. Guess because the packages related here are at the same level. Guess I've to monitor the bug report you linked to earlier. -- Venlig hilsen / Best regards Allan Dreyer Andersen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Sven Joachim skrev: Do you use network-manager? There are lots of open bugs against it, for instance http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=430580 might be related to your problem. Yes I use network-manager. Looks like you are right with the issues with the network-manager application. Wireless network is not working
Hey guys On my laptop I have just changed from Ubuntu to Debian and somehow I just can't get the wireless network to work. If I plugin a ethernet cable the connection is established Immediately. If I enter the information (SSID, encryption) manually it just fails and even worse all the surrounding networks aren't listed at all. lspci shows this: 06:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61) 07:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 01) Ubuntu page about the laptop: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/MSIMegabookGX700 What am I doing wrong here? Thanks in advance. -- Venlig hilsen / Best regards Allan Dreyer Andersen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Brad Rogers skrev: Does scanning only works if I'm root or is there a way to fix this? It /should/ work for anyone that's a member of the group "scanner". Check whether your user is in that group. IIRC, I had to add myself as Debian didn't do it for me at install time. Probably because there wasn't a scanner attached at the time. Thanks a lot Brad, your solution did solve my problem. -- Venlig hilsen / Best regards Allan Dreyer Andersen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? I've tried to boot up on a Ubuntu live cd (8.10) and here it does work. Any ideas to move forward would be very much appreciated. I have an LIDE 40 that I use with Kooka (KDE scanning tool). I haven't used it for some time but you might give it a try. According to aptitude it doesn't use the SANE packages but I do know it uses a kernel model. Thanks a lot for your suggestion. I not sure what it did, but now both Xsane and Kooka works but only if I run them as root.
