HD boot/Potato 2.2.13
I installed 2.2.13 from dwnld floppies & it runs fine from the boot floppy. It hangs with the hard disk boot. There may be no boot record on hd? I'm using a 13.7 Gig HD, 100 MHz '486. This same box with a smaller HD boots & runs Slink without a prob. Any suggestions? TIA.
Gcc compile/linker math
I can't get gcc to link math functions like cos( ) etc. from usr/include/math.h. | mathcalls.h Box is slink. Any help appreciated. TIA.
Display named
Hi, While executing an X application, 'can't find display named' comes up. Where do I look and what do I do? Running slink 2.0.36. I had a hd/hw prob which probably creamed some files. TIA for any suggestions.
dwnld .deb files with Netsc

Re: Serial connection to windoze box
Hi, After many mistakes, defective cables, and a lot of help from these people, I have login to my Slink box from a Win95 box. I have: A null modem 9-pin mini cable about 10 meters long. HyperTerminal on Win95 (windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Hyper Terminal\hypertrm.exe) Direct to COM4 vt100 emulation 9600, 8, None, 1 stop, hardware | None flow ctrl At Slink end, /etc/securetty added lines: "ttyS0, ttyS1, ttyS3" below tty12" /etc/inittab: removed comment "#" from "T1:23:respawn/sbin/getty -L ttyS1 9600 vt100" A click on Send will download a file of your choice to the pwd directory on Linux. Hope this helps. -jw
Remote Login
Hi, again. I tried the suggestions provided(& tnx) but without change. My login looks like this at the remote terminal: Debian GNU/Linux 2.1 Struggles ttyS1 Struggles login: jway Password: (keyed in) (time passes.) Login timed out after 60 seconds. Any more suggestions? Thanks. -John.
Remote Login
Hi, login from ttyS1 is rejected while the same username & password are accepted on the main console. Is there some further permission required to enable? Thanks for any help, John.
Box-box file transfer
Is there a way to transfer files between a Slink & Win95 machine using a serial null-modem cable? I don't want to tie up two phone lines with modems. Something similar to the (msft) "Interlnk" perhaps. Tnx.
Re: Newbie needs help on X win!!!

Can you guys > give me a list of packages I should Install to get X window working. I > don't want anything fancy yet, right now I just want ordinary X window and > maybe with file manager like Gnome or something. > If you look in "Packages" for xbase or xbase-clients, you will see a list of dependencies. You will also need a monitor driver (vga or svga or something). If you install these with dselect, other dependencies may arise. Satisfy them as they come up. Some of the packages listed in xbase are: rstart, rstartd, twm, xbase-clients, xdm, xfree86-common, xfs, xlib6g, xlib6g-dev, xmh, xproxy, xserver-common, xsm & xterm. When you get it running, you may purge xbase. Stay with it, X is a great system. -jw
X Login Fails
I have installed X windows for the first time on slink. The X login prompt box appears, but after keying the password the system reports login incorrect. I'm locked out. Suggestions? (short of reloading linux & the entire 7500 files.) Any backdoor boot options? J. Way
