Idiots guide to setting up samba
Hi is there an idiots guide to setting up samba on debian ? I'm ending up with multiple services on samba and winbindd but smbd not running. Also which version of samba should I be using. 1377 ?S 0:00 /usr/sbin/samba -D 1378 ?S 0:00 /usr/sbin/samba -D 1379 ?S 0:00 /usr/sbin/samba -D 1380 ?S 0:00 /usr/sbin/samba -D 1386 ?S 0:00 /usr/sbin/samba -D 1388 ?S 0:00 /usr/sbin/samba -D 1392 ?Sl 0:00 /usr/sbin/gdm3 10874 ?Ss 0:00 nmbd -D -s /etc/samba/smb.conf 10877 ?Ss 0:00 winbindd -D -s /etc/samba/smb.conf 10878 ?S 0:00 winbindd -D -s /etc/samba/smb.conf 10879 ?S 0:00 winbindd -D -s /etc/samba/smb.conf 10891 ?S 0:00 winbindd -D -s /etc/samba/smb.conf I so rarely use samba and I've never managed to get my head around setting it up , just for a simple network with one alien laptop of my sons running winblows. I've tried using GADMIN-SAMBA but can't see why smbd is not running. this is from samba.log :- === [2012/01/16 13:38:34.819332, 0] smbd/server_exit.c:171(exit_server_common) Abnormal server exit: open_sockets_smbd() failed [2012/01/16 13:38:34.819407, 0] smbd/server_exit.c:172(exit_server_common) === [2012/01/16 13:38:34.820541, 0] lib/util.c:1221(log_stack_trace) BACKTRACE: 6 stack frames: #0 smbd(log_stack_trace+0x1a) [0x7f7c68b34dca] #1 smbd(+0x6a6063) [0x7f7c68da8063] #2 smbd(+0x6a6361) [0x7f7c68da8361] #3 smbd(main+0xa52) [0x7f7c6880bc32] #4 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xfd) [0x7f7c654a9ead] #5 smbd(+0x10a5a9) [0x7f7c6880c5a9] [2012/01/16 13:38:34.820948, 0] lib/fault.c:372(dump_core) dumping core in /var/log/samba/cores/smbd [2012/01/16 13:40:21.284953, 0] param/loadparm.c:7969(lp_do_parameter) Ignoring unknown parameter "update encrypted" [2012/01/16 13:40:23.908335, 0] lib/util_sock.c:664(open_socket_in) bind failed on port 445 socket_addr = 127.0.0.1.
