Magnus,
I also hit this problem today - not sure why the package isn't available in
unstable/sid yet (the dependencies have changed since I installed the
unstable gnome(13) metapackage two days ago). There's probably someone or
some build-machine working madly on getting this version of gnome-utils
into unstable.
I managed to get Gnome2 installed to a workable state today (Thurs 31 Oct)
by running aptitude, finding the gnome metapackage, and installing all the
packages it depends on, minus gnome-utils.
Cheers,
-Dave.
P.S. Don't anybody else do this:
su - root
...
cd /
dpkg --fsys-tarfile /var/cache/apt/archives/nautilus2-x.deb | tar xvf -
...
pull all your hair out now, you probably just clobbered your Debian
install. Ahh, the power of root.

I want to install Gnome2! I understand it's supposed to have hit
unstable as of last Sunday, but I don't seem to be able to install it. I
am running a stable/testing system, but with Sid pinned to 50.
The usual command line doesn't seem to work:
die:~# apt-get -t unstable install gnome

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
gnome: Depends: gnome-utils (= 1.106) but it is not going to be
installed
E: Sorry, broken packages
How do I install Gnome2?
(The Gnome2-in-Debian web page only says the it has hit Sid, not how to
actually get it from there.)
