OK.

Hmmm, wait. Did the nvidia module get reloaded, or are you now
running with the nv driver?

I can also confirm that the debian packaged drivers also work with

Thank you. Hopefully, Mr. Donald knows about this already. I did look

Of course, you understand the "friction" right? This is *DEBIAN* after
all.

And the nVidia Binary blob being one of the worst offenders, where as
many just do the firmware blob... no nVidia has to do the whole fricking
set of libraries and module.

Of course, you could have politely asked them to re-assign the ticket to
the nVidia kernel source maintainer being Randall Donald.

Indeed, this is one of those "known" problems. The xserver-xorg-core
maintainers closed my ticket, Bug#420523, since someone else on this
list stated that by downgrading the xserver-xorg-core package the
nvidia driver worked again, and in closing the ticket said "It's not
an xorg problem. You'll just have to wait until someone updates the
nvidia driver."

Someone else said that the experimental driver worked, but I am just
running the nv driver until, as it was so gently put, "someone"
updates something.

I'm with xserver-xorg-core in hold waiting for a new nvidia packages. Today:

nvidia-kernel-source 1.0.8776-4 -> 1.0.9755-1
nvidia-glx 1.0.8776-4 -> 1.0.9755-1

I've upgraded but xorg doesn't works (after module-assistant installation).

Then I've downgraded again to

- nvidia-glx 1.0.8776-4
- nvidia-kernel 1.0.8776-4+2.6.18-8
- xserver.xorg.core 1.1.1-21

... the solution will come with new nvidia packages, right?
