Description : A HOWTO for starting a Debian subproject

There is an unreleased early draft of this native Debian package (html
version only) at:

http://people.debian.org/~synrg/subproject-howto.html

It is obviously not finished yet, but it will be fleshed out and
version 1.0 will be uploaded before the end of this month.

I have deliberately chosen the shorter subproject-howto name rather
than debian-subproject-howto as the latter is a bit unwieldly.
Besides, subproject of what project? is implicit (cf. harden and
harden-* packages where harden what distribution? is implicitly
Debian).

While my first draft was placed under the GPL, as this document
is patterned after junior-doc/quickguide which is currently
GPL'd, it will certainly not remain this way. I am considering
the GNU FDL license in spite of all of the recent controversy.
It seems to suit my purposes best.

The document is written in debiandoc format.

v2strip is a little utility that removes ID3v2 tags from MP3 files to
provide backward compatibility for applications not yet supporting
  these tags.

The package is already finished and lintian-clean. You can have a
 look at it here:

Er. Both

  /usr/bin/id3convert -2 --strip (libid3-dev)
and

  /usr/bin/id3v2 --delete-v2 (id3v2)

will do this; why another?

Also, id3v2 is designed to not interfere with applications that don't
support them. Why not file bugs against the programs that are having
trouble with them?

Description : The Wallfire log analysis tool

Wflogs is a firewall log analysis tool. It can be used to produce a log
summary report in plain text, HTML and XML, or even to translate a log
file into another firewall log format, for example. The goal of the
WallFire project is to build a very general and modular firewalling
application based on Netfilter or any kind of low-level framework. It
is part of the WallFire project, but can be used independently.

Bug#133649: cm-super packaging

2003-02-11 Thread Josselin Mouette
Le mar 11/02/2003 à 01:11, C.M. Connelly a écrit :
The README file for CM-Super says

Each Type 1 font program contains ALL glyphs from the following
standard LaTeX font encodings: T1, TS1, T2A, T2B, T2C, X2, and
also Adobe StandardEncoding (585 glyphs per non-SC font and 468
glyphs per SC font)

The different encodings are achieved using ``map'' files, which
say, basically, if TeX asks for font A, it's really font X, with
encoding E, so reencode the Type 1 font using encoding E.

Oh, okay. I should have read more carefully. That means the only thing
you can split out is indeed a package containing the afm files.

Anyway I hope you have a good bandwidth ;)

  Description : Extra candy for GTK+/Gnome 2

Currently, this package includes only the Gorilla theme. It is pulled
from CVS but it will hopefully be released soon.

Package: gtk2-engines-gorilla
Description: A vector theme for GTK+ 2.x
This GTK+ theme provides a nice-looking GTK/Gnome desktop using vector
icons, which can be resized at will. This package will be especially
useful to owners of low-end hardware (as SVG icons are rendered much
faster than PNG ones) or high resolution displays.
 .
It also includes an assorted GTK 1.x theme.

Test packages are available at http://people.debian.org/~joss/packages/

   ^^
This does not match the short package description.
And in my opinion it does not make much sense either,
because the next version of Debian will ship without Gnome-1.
I would suggest to drop the GTK 1.x stuff from the package.

By the way, there is a grammatical error, too: an assorted theme
sounds wrong to me.

What do you think?

It got me surprised too, but the difference is slightly noticeable for

performance.

It is only a gtkrc, so it is very small. That's why I kept it -
otherwise it wouldn't make sense. Do you think it's not wise to provide
it ?

By the way, there is a grammatical error, too: an assorted theme

Eeer, right, I played babelfish when translating from French. Is a
matching GTK 1.x theme correct ?

part of the groupware solution, herein referred to as Kolab Server
runs on GNU/Linux, namely on a current distribution of Debian, Red Hat

order to gain maximal portability. In order to be able to apply readily
available security updates in a timely manner employment of a
well-maintained GNU/Linux distribution like the above mentioned seems
desirable. The goal is that standard security updates as provided by
these vendors can be installed without affecting the Kolab server

I understand. But you asked why _I_ was filing a bug. I filed no bug.

Bug#180507: ITP: v2strip -- Removes ID3v2 tags from MP3 files

2003-02-11 Thread Christian Garbs [Master Mitch]

v2strip is a little utility that removes ID3v2 tags from MP3
files to provide backward compatibility for applications not yet
   supporting these tags.

 Er. Both

   /usr/bin/id3convert -2 --strip (libid3-dev)
 and

   /usr/bin/id3v2 --delete-v2 (id3v2)

 will do this; why another?

D'oh, didn't think about that one, just started packaging it because
it was so nice and small :-)

But let me see...

Package: libid3-dev
Installed-Size: 468
Depends: libid3-3.7-13 (= 3.7.13-4.1), zlib1g-dev

Package: id3v2
Installed-Size: 100
Depends: libc6 (= 2.3.1-1), libgcc1 (= 1:3.2-1), libid3-3.8.2,
 libstdc++5 (= 1:3.2-1), zlib1g (= 1:1.1.4)

Package: v2strip
Installed-Size: 68
Depends: libc6 (= 2.3.1-1)

v2strip is definitely small and handy compared to the other
solutions (just think about all the libs you'd have to install
otherwise). Thinking of one tool for one purpose, this might
sometimes be better than the other all-purpose packages.

Is this a valid reason for a new package?

Also, id3v2 is designed to not interfere with applications that
don't support them. Why not file bugs against the programs that are
 having trouble with them?

You're right. The package description was taken directly from the
homepage of v2strip. I think the reason backward compatibility
should be changed to something like compared to other packages, this
one is very small and does not depend on other libraries, as it is
_only_ able to remove ID3v2 tags should be pointed out.

Regards,
Christian

Not for me (installing small libraries isn't a big deal; that's why we
have apt), but it's not my decision. :)

manager decoration bug fixed (thanks to Franco Spinelli)

See http://web.tiscali.it/diegobazzanella/whatsnew.txt
Please, package this :)

Good luck.

This RFP bug should have been closed by the upload of package
w3c-dtd-xhtml, but the upload has been (incorrectly) considered as an NMU
(it's hard to imagine that the first upload of a package could be an
NMU...), marking the bug as fixed instead of closing it.

Closing it now.
