Bug#594546: ITP: MIRA -- A whole genome shotgun and EST sequence assembler
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: George Marselis * Package name: mira Version : 3.0.5 Upstream Author : Bastien Chevreux * URL : http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/mira-assembler/index.php?title=Main_Pa ge * License : GPL Programming Lang: C++, Perl Description : MIRA is a whole genome shotgun and EST sequence assembler for Sanger, 454, Solexa (Illumina) and PacBio data. Mira can be seen as a Swiss army knife of sequence assembly developed and used in the past 12 years to get assembly jobs done efficiently - and especially accurately. That is, without actually putting too much manual work into finishing the assembly. MIRA started in 1997 as a PhD project at the German Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg (Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum Heidelberg). Binaries were always distributed publicly and over time, other labs and sequencing providers have found MIRA useful for assembly of extremely 'unfriendly' projects containing lots of repetitive sequences (as always, your mileage may vary). In 2007 MIRA changed the license to GPL v2. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#594482: [DRE-maint] Bug#594482: ITP: libsyntax-ruby -- A simple Ruby syntax highlighting library
Hi Ben! On Aug 26, 2010, at 4:52 AM, Ben Armstrong wrote: > Package: wnpp > Severity: wishlist > Owner: Ben Armstrong > > * Package name: libsyntax-ruby > Version : 1.0.0 > Upstream Author : Jamis Buck > * URL : http://syntax.rubyforge.org/ > * License : BSD > Programming Lang: Ruby > Description : A simple Ruby syntax highlighting library You may be interested to know that I already started down this same road when I was packaging Chef, as we were using the syntax library for code syntax highlighting in the webui. The original bug was: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=538353 See further discussion there. I switched to coderay, which was pretty easy to implement even though I had no prior experience with syntax or coderay until I switched the Chef webui. It looks like the only part of cucumber that actually uses the syntax highlighting is a couple simple lines and should be relatively easy to get upstream to patch. I'm sure they'd be open to doing so given that Jamis doesn't maintain the syntax library anymore and he recommended I use coderay instead of his own. The bottom line is, it would probably be less work to get cucumber to use coderay than to go through the effort on packaging syntax. -- Opscode, Inc Joshua Timberman, Technical Evangelist C: 720.334.RUBY E: jos...@opscode.com -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#524135: Maintenance
Ok, I see your doubts and I'm happy to discuss these things here in detail. So we hopefully would be able to come to the best solution for all involved sides: - the Thrift project and its community itself - Thrift users - Debian (and other GNU/Linux Distributions or deployment formats like maven). Let me explain my situation and probably that one others have as well. I would like to deploy Thrift for a few globally distributed development teams. e.g. C++ on Debian (currently Lenny), C# on Windows, Java, etc. I really want to deploy well defined official version, no local repositories and patches. => only if there is a strong requirement So I would need the possibility to add a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/thrift.list file with defined versions. pinning seems too be much overhead to do that each machine... ok, there is the possibiliy to create a local mirrorbut that's work;-) or would it be easier to change to select the versions via pinning instead of changing the sources.list ? however, I get to the point... I would like to have every thrift version available as debian package and the possibility to select to required version easily for lots of development machines, where people are not very familiar with Debian or Thrift. They should just use these Tools and code their stuff in C++, Java, whatever. --roger Am 26.08.2010 19:34, schrieb Eric Evans: [ Roger Meier ] From my perspective, the easiest way to maintain debian packaging would be the Thrift subversion repository itself. Issues can easily be addressed via JIRA and Packages can be made available on the Thrift website directly as long as they are not within official Debian releases. What are your thought's? There are so many reasons this is not a good idea; I'm not really sure where to begin. For starters, I don't have access to Thrift's subversion repository and patch submission would seriously inhibit my worflow. Likewise other Debian Developers don't have access to Thrift's repo, while they do have access to the collab-maint repo on git.debian.org. It's one thing to impede my work, but impeding the work of others in the Debian community means I will likely not get their help. Even if access weren't a problem, colocating the packaging source in the same VCS is still not an option because Debian package releases do not, and should not occur in lockstep with Thrift releases. Secondly, this bug report is for including Thrift in Debian. It's best to think of this as more of an aggregate work created from the upstream Apache project. Debian users are going to submit bugs to the Debian BTS not JIRA, some of these will no doubt pertain to Thrift itself, but many of them will pertain to the packaging and integration in Debian, and have nothing to do with Thrift. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#594487: ITP: jack-keyboard -- virtual MIDI keyboard for JACK MIDI
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: rosea grammostola * Package name: jack-keyboard Version : 2.5 Upstream Author : Edward Tomasz Napierala * URL : http://jack-keyboard.sourceforge.net/ * License : BSD Programming Lang: C Description : virtual MIDI keyboard for JACK MIDI virtual MIDI keyboard - a program that allows you to send JACK MIDI events (play ;-) using your PC keyboard. It's somewhat similar to vkeybd, except it uses JACK MIDI instead of ALSA, and the default keyboard mapping is much better - it uses the same layout as trackers (like Impulse Tracker) did, so you have two and half octaves under your fingers. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#594482: ITP: libsyntax-ruby -- A simple Ruby syntax highlighting library
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Ben Armstrong * Package name: libsyntax-ruby Version : 1.0.0 Upstream Author : Jamis Buck * URL : http://syntax.rubyforge.org/ * License : BSD Programming Lang: Ruby Description : A simple Ruby syntax highlighting library This is a simple syntax highlighting library for Ruby. It is a naive syntax analysis tool, meaning that it does not "understand" the syntaxes of the languages it processes, but merely does some semi-intelligent pattern matching. There are primarily two uses for the Syntax library: # Convert text from a supported syntax to a supported highlight format (like HTML). # Tokenize text in a supported syntax and process the tokens directly. While there already exist other Ruby syntax highlighting libraries in Debian, this one is a dependency of Cucumber, which I RFP'd (#565769) a while ago and will shortly be converted to an ITP, if not by me then by a colleague. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#543893: ITA: cuneiform -- multi-language OCR system
Hi Jakub, it looks like I'll have no time to maintain it, but to preserve the results of what we've done so far, let's finish it (at least in time for the next release!) I hope I will do some work on it tomorrow, or on Saturday morning. Can we place Dmitry's repository into vcs: field, or should we move it to somewhere? Bug#364295: fltk2 seems more or less dead
Hi, JFTR: despite they updated the license in fall 2009, according to http://www.fltk.org/articles.php?L825 and http://fltk.org/software.php#SVN, fltk 2 is not further developed. Instead fltk 1.3 is the active development branch and the next planned branches are 1.4 and 3.0. There though seem to be actively developed software (like Dillo) based on it, so it may still be nice to have it in Debian. But it will be more work than if there were active development on fltk 2.
