Bug#743876: non-c99

2014-04-27 Thread Pietro Battiston
Julian, sorry for not noticing this mail before.

The honest answer is: I was able to package llvmmath because it builds
(almost) fine by following the usual procedure, not because I understand
how anything works (and that's clearly part of the reason why I don't
really intend to adopt this package).

I may find the time to dig into the code following your suggestion...
but this is not really high priority in my TODO list, mainly because I
would have to learn a lot first, and my usage of numba is quite
sporadic.

Bug#729203: Rebuild of possible FFmpeg reverse build-dependenciesa

2014-04-27 Thread Cyborg Ethly Alpha {My Research Desk}
I've been watching the discussion. I'll be test benching the differences
with FFmpeg and Libav (on the same system) through-out the year. I will
be setting up the experimental (nightly) FFmpeg ppa in launch pad some
time tonight (it's 9pm EST here) or tomorrow. Then I'll add an
experimental (stable). If Debian, and all other derivatives, intend to
stay a Linux OS, then there should be a solution for FFmpeg & Libav to
co-exist. I've done this with Gnome and KDE - I have a hybridized
desktop. I don't expect Debian or Canonical to do this. I expect it to
be purely a community/individual effort. If a Linux OS is truly Linux,
then it must be highly customizable.

right now we have libavcodec53 in debian, if we are going to make a
libavcodec155 then in 100 libav version we're going to have a hard
problem to deal with.

Libav makes a new release about once per year.
So even if every time the SONAME of libavcodec increases, they will get
to 155 in about 100 years...
While I sincerely hope that Debian still exists in 100 years, I think
this is a mostly theoretical problem, because I doubt that it will be a
problem to reuse a package name that had been used 100 years earlier.

I thought you wanted to package like the -dev ackage into libavcodec-ffmpegxx

(The development packages are different, because Libav already uses the
name libavcodec-dev.)

if we're going to aim into having both libav and ffmpeg, we should be

As I don't think that's a problem, I prefer to follow policy [1]:
"Normally, the run-time shared library and its SONAME symlink should be
placed in a package named librarynamesoversion, where soversion is the
version number in the SONAME of the shared library."

But if you still think, it would be better to call them *-ffmpegNNN, I
could live with that.

The libxbase package is about eleven years old, and needs an update to an seven
years old version. The reverse dependencies of the old libxbase package are
scheduled for removal (#743295, vdkxdb2, vdkbuilder2) or can be updated to
xbase64 (calligra). After the xbase64 package is in the archive, the old
libxbase package can be removed as well.

Objx provides the `objx.Map` type, which is a `map[string]interface{}` that
exposes a powerful `Get` method (among others) that allows you to
easily and quickly get access to data within the map, without having to
worry too much about type assertions, missing data, default values etc.

Quickly looking, the .typelib file cannot be installed in the
multi-arch path (should be in /usr/lib/girepository-1.0/ instead) and
the Multi-Arch flag for this package should be removed completely.

And maybe you want to move the examples from the -dev package to the
-doc one, but I guess this is a matter of taste..

Cheers,

Laurent Bigonville

Bug#746158: RFH: csv2latex -- a CSV to LaTeX file converter

2014-04-27 Thread Benoît Rouits
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request assistance with maintaining the csv2latex package.

Due to insufficient rights for uploading csv2latex to
ftp-master i would like a kind mentor to review and
eventually upload csv2latex-0.18-3 (just a deb-related
fix, not upstream). I now maintain both upstream and
debian package on https://svn.gtmp.org/svn/csv2latex/
The dsc and tarballs are temporarly available at:
http://brouits.free.fr/tmp/csv2latex/

Thanks.
Benoît

The package description is:
 csv2latex is a simple command-line file converter
that converts a comma-separated-values file into
a LaTeX table. It can guess exotic csv formats.

Being the sponsor of the last upload of png2html, I orphan this package
now. Please note that I'm not using this package anymore and thus would
prefer not to sponsor it anymore. Also, there hasn't been a new upstream
release in ages.

Maintaining a package requires time and skills. Please only adopt this
package if you will have enough time and attention to work on it.

If you want to be the new maintainer, please see
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/index.html#howto-o for detailed
instructions how to adopt a package properly.

It's embedded dependencies (need to repack), I think we should use an
upstream source from github (Composer) for the long term. What do you
think?

FYI, "pear.phpunit.de will be shut down no later than December, 31 2014" [0][1].

I am sure that you know what this means. I don't. And even after
reading for a third time I don't know whether this package may be
useful for someone who will likely never align genome scales (assuming
this has something to do with microbiology).
