Bug#1054458: ITP: mhz -- CPU frequency measurement utility

2023-10-23 Thread Benjamin Drung
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Benjamin Drung
X-Debbugs-Cc: debian-de...@lists.debian.org, bdr...@debian.org

* Package name: mhz
  Version : 0.0+git20230617
  Upstream Contact: Willy Tarreau
* URL : https://github.com/wtarreau/mhz
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: C
Description : CPU frequency measurement utility

This tool measures real CPU clockspeeds. This is helpful on platforms where
cpufreq support is not available (yet) or where the clockspeed values returned
by the kernel cannot be relied. This applies to platforms where vendors are
cheating, where weird clockspeed capping occurs for unknown reasons or where
actual clockspeeds are set via jumpers while the clockspeeds available to the
kernel are derived from device-tree (DT) entries.

I'll maintain this small tool on my own. It is useful for testing ARM
boards.

Bug#1040005: ITP:magpie - window manager for the budgie desktop

2023-10-23 Thread David Mohammed
Hi Simon

Yes, ftp master had concerns over the copyright file in the package.

I have revised this a while back and uploaded to mentors.

Unfortunately my current magpie mentor hasn't had time to rereview the
copyright changes and thus re-sponsor the package.

I am ever hopeful with finding some help here.

https://mentors.debian.net/package/magpie/

Thanks

David

I saw that this was in the NEW queue for a while, but then disappeared.
Did the ftp team have concerns about it?

Because budgie-desktop-environment currently depends on libmutter 43/44,
and future versions want to move to libmagpie rather than mutter 45,
getting this package into unstable is a blocker for being able to
finish getting GNOME 45 into unstable.

I was waiting to appear in the queue, the package is already shown in
the NEW queue and my name will appear in the next update. I usually
consult wnpp.debian.net for WNPP bugs. Thank you for including me in
the list of uploaders for this package and it is an honor to
contribute to the GNOME maintainer team.

Parse::Man, an abstract subclass of Parser::MGC, recognises nroff
grammar from a file or string value. It invokes methods when various
nroff directives are encountered. It is intended that this class be used
as a base class, with methods provided to handle the various directives
and formatting options. Typically a subclass will store intermediate
results in a data structure, building it as directed by these method
invocations.

This is a dependency of sdview/libapp-sdview-perl (see #1054001);
Andrius expressed interest in having Parse::Man in Debian and offered to
package it, hence I've marked him as the owner of this bug.

All the best,
Ole

Description : Attempt to reimplement LLVM's FileCheck using Python.

Many software projects could benefit from a suite of LLVM LIT integration
tests. The problem is that you have to build FileCheck from LLVM sources
which is not a trivial task for 1) people who are not familiar with the
LLVM infrastructure and 2) Python-based projects that would prefer to not
have to build anything from LLVM's source code in their CI process.

The option of having pre-compiled binaries is a workaround, but we don't
like to keep third-party binary artifacts in source code

This is a B-D for #1052439

Description : Tool to inspect Kubernetes and Podman checkpoints

Container engines like *Podman* and *CRI-O* have the ability to
checkpoint a container. All data related to a checkpoint is collected
in a checkpoint archive. With the help of this tool, checkpointctl, it
is possible to display information about these checkpoint archives.

This is a dependency of podman. I plan to maintain it as part of the
pkg-golang team umbrella

Description : interface to TM1638 based displays for Raspberry Pi

Library to interface with TM1638 based displays for the Raspberry Pi,
for example, small boards with eight seven-segment displays, eight
red-green LEDs and eight push buttons. All of these sit on a two-wire
serial bus which makes it easy to connect the boards to a
computer/microcontroller of your choice.

I use this library to control a TM1638 display.

* Package name: golang-github-katalix-go-l2tp
  Version : 0.1.1
  Upstream Contact: Tom Parkin
* URL : https://github.com/katalix/go-l2tp
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: golang
Description : L2TP and PPPoE tools built using the go-l2tp package

go-l2tp is a suite of Go libraries for building L2TP applications on
Linux systems.
.
It includes a set of daemons for managing various related connections:
 * kl2tpd is a client (LAC-mode) L2TPv2 daemon,
 * ql2tpd manages static L2TPv3 Ethernet connections,
 * kpppoed is a PPPoE server daemon which can be used alongside kl2tpd
to implement L2TP Access Concentrator connections.
.
The go-l2tp daemons use the Linux kernel L2TP and PPP subsystems for
data transport. PPP termination is delegated to pppd.

Since go-l2tp's initial release on GitHub, the NetworkManager-l2tp
project (a VPN plugin for NetworkManager), has adopted kl2tpd as
its default L2TP daemon, falling back to xl2tpd if kl2tpd is not
available.

kl2tpd offers several benefits over xl2tpd, including the use of
ephemeral ports by default, and supporting the use of IPSec with
kernel-mode L2TP data transport.

Offering kl2tpd as a part of a Debian package will make
NetworkManager-l2tp easier to maintain and make it easier for users to
use kl2tpd for their VPN connections.

As a golang package, golang-github-katalix-go-l2tp would fall under the
aegis of the Debian Go Packaging team. However the upstream authors
would be happy to provide collaborative ongoing support with the
maintenance of the package.

Ppx extension for deriving a witness that a type is intended to be
stable. In this context, stable means that the serialization format
will never change. This allows programs running at different versions
of the code to safely communicate.

This is a new dependency of bin-prot and will be maintained in the

Description : microtuning support to audio and MIDI plugins

The MTS-ESP library is a simple but versatile C/C++ library for adding
microtuning support to audio and MIDI plugins. It allows for a single
master plugin to simultaneously control the tuning of any number of
connected client plugins across a DAW session. Connection between a
master and clients is automatic and invisible.

MTS-ESP is needed by bespokesynth (ITP #1025206)

  Programming Lang: Python
Description : Django middleware to compress responses using several
algorithms

This middleware implements compressed content encoding for HTTP. It is
similar to Django's GZipMiddleware, but additionally supports other
compression methods. It is meant to be a drop-in replacement for Django's
  GZipMiddleware.

The middleware is focussed on the task of compressing typical Django
responses such as HTML, JSON, etc. Both normal (bulk) and streaming
responses are supported. For static file compression, have a look at other
  projects such as WhiteNoise.

Zstandard is a new method for compression with little client support so far.
Most browsers now support Brotli compression. The middleware will choose the
best compression method supported by the client as indicated in the
  request's Accept-Encoding header.

I plan to maintain this package as part of the Python team.

Bug#970059: ITP: rust-gstreamer-play -- gstreamer's Rust bindings

Control: tags -1 + pending
Control: retitle -1 ITP: rust-gstreamer-play -- gstreamer's Rust bindings
Control: block 993852 by -1

I am retitling this to reflect the current status.

Upstream has deprecated rust-gstreamer-player and instead distributes
rust-gstreamer-play. Our initial list of apps using
rust-gstreamer-player were already ported to use the new Rust
library instead. Therefore, we have uploaded rust-gstreamer-play to
the Debian NEW queue and we will not upload rust-gstreamer-player.

Thank you,
Jeremy Bícha

the name 'art' is a very generic name, I suggest to use python-art
according the source is a python library and a similar functionality
could be also be provided by other programming languages.

The same is true for the binary package name, usually and mostly the
package name is prefixed by 'python3-'.

PS: Please use reportbug to write your ITPs! It is setting all headers
correctly.

it is a replacement of exa (dead upstream).
it will break/replace it.

exa is an improved file lister with more features and better defaults.
It uses colours to distinguish file types and metadata. It knows about
symlinks, extended attributes, and Git. And it’s small, fast, and just
 one single binary.

Puppet lets you centrally manage every important aspect of your system using a
cross-platform specification language that manages all the separate elements
normally aggregated in different files, like users, cron jobs, and hosts,
along with obviously discrete elements like packages, services, and files.

This module contains extlib: functions and facts that are out of scope for
stdlib. Some of them are even intrinsically tied to stdlib..

This is a dependency to package puppet-module-puppet (ie: a puppet module

Description : Python module and command to ping hosts using raw sockets

Ping3 is a pure Python 3 version of the ICMP ping implementation using
 raw sockets.

This package installs the library for Python 3 and also the "ping3" command.

-
This is a soft dependency of "simplemonitor" (ITP #1016113).

"Soft" dependency because simplemonitor can operate without it if not
using the monitor "ping" (and, instead, using the monitor "host" which
spawns /usr/bin/ping).

Users using "simplemonitor" in Debian, if "ping3" is not available,
would not be able to share files between a simplemonitor from pypi or
from Debian.

Using python-ping3 in simplemonitor also improve efficiency.

I plan to maintain it isnide the debian-python team.

I am looking for a sponsor.

Bug#1054404: ITP: reform-firedecor -- MNT Reform specific window decoration for Wayfire

  Programming Lang: C++
Description : MNT Reform specific window decoration for Wayfire

An advanced window decoration plugin for the Wayfire window manager. Provides
pretty standard rectangular frames and title bars with an icon and familiar
minimize/maximize/close buttons.

This is a fork of the original project by AhoyISki which seems abandoned and as
a result, was never ported to wayfire 0.8.0 (currently in experimental). This
fork is maintained by MNT Research GmbH for the MNT Reform laptop (hence the
"reform" prefix in the package name) but is otherwise just a normal wayfire
window decorator.

done. I still got two minor issues I haven't been able to solve: To build the documentation a patch
changing the version number is needed. I tried using DEB_UPSTREAM_VERSION from the enviroment

but wasn't successful; so I hardcoded it for now. What would be the proper way to do so, i.e. using
DEB_UPSTREAM_VERSION ?

See my commit after yours.

The second issue is that I wanted to remove the *.json data after installing so that doesn't end up
in the binary package but execute_after_dh_auto_install: and a subsequent rm didn't do the trick.

Any idea why this isn't working here ?

Because you used the path where dh_python3 moves the files. That program kicks in after
dh_auto_install. In general, it is a good idea to use find debian/python3-schwifty -name ... -delete
for such an endeavour. But I have fixed it with an env variable that I have introduced for the first
question.

Bug#1030835: Packaging ruff

2023-10-23 Thread weepingclown
Hi,
Recently I tried to get started with packaging ruff, but found out there is
already ongoing work on it.
However it seems there is a quite a bit of work to do, so I will be happy to
help out in any way possible.
I will have to mention that I am still rather new to packaging.
With that in my mind, do you think I could be of any help?
If you want to dicuss about something, please feel free to mail me, or you can
find me at @weepingclown:matrix.org.

In any case, I appreciate the work you are doing a lot!
Cheers,
Ananthu
