I took only a look at the source for now. The whole conffile handling
in the maintainer scripts was really only roughly done by me and
probably should be improved. E.g. the preinst should check for the
version it gets upgraded from and only do the conffile stuff, if the
old version is older than 0.8.0 (or something). It should also check
the md5sum of the conffile and remove the old conffile instead of moving
it, if it was unchanged.

Seems to work fine on my PowerBook G4 12"

Aside from the maintainer script issues there are also some (harmless)
lintian warnings you could fix:
W: pbbuttonsd source: out-of-date-standards-version 3.7.2 (current is 3.7.3)
W: pbbuttonsd source: dpatch-build-dep-but-no-patch-list pbbuttonsd
I: pbbuttonsd: hyphen-used-as-minus-sign
usr/share/man/man5/pbbuttonsd.cnf.5.gz:515
I: pbbuttonsd: hyphen-used-as-minus-sign
usr/share/man/man5/pbbuttonsd.cnf.5.gz:518
I: pbbuttonsd: hyphen-used-as-minus-sign
usr/share/man/man5/pbbuttonsd.cnf.5.gz:520
W: pbbuttonsd: package-contains-empty-directory usr/share/locale/it/LC_MESSAGES/
W: pbbuttonsd: init-d-script-stops-in-s-runlevel /etc/init.d/pbbuttonsd

And the "Copyright 2002" in debian/copyright could probably use an update.

But the only important thing really is the conffile handling.

Bug#467584: RFA: modconf -- Device Driver Configuration

2008-02-26 Thread Frank Lichtenheld
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the modconf package.

This program is a remnant of the old boot-floppies installer and will
probably need a complete redesign and rewrite to remain useful. For
neither I have the time, but I will happily share some of my thoughts
about that with people interested.

Note that there is a Alioth project "modconf" for this package which
a new maintainer should take over as well (but maybe only to delete
it, it is currently used only for the mailing list modconf-commits).

The package description is:
Modconf provides a terminal-based interface for installing and configuring
 device driver modules.

Bug#345160: ITP: libgpod -- a library to read and write songs and artwork to an iPod

* Package name: libgpod
  Version : 0.3.0
Upstream Author : Jorg Schuler (jcsjcs at users dot sourceforge dot net)
* URL : http://www.gtkpod.org
* License : GPL
Description : a library to read and write songs and artwork to an iPod

libgpod is a library meant to abstract access to an iPod content. It
provides an easy to use API to retrieve the list of files and playlist
stored on an iPod, to modify them and to save them back to the iPod.

This is a shared library evolved from the code from gtkpod (which I
already maintain) and is need to package the newest upstream versions
thereof.

Ubuntu already has packages of this so I will probably use them as
starting point unless I find reasons to do otherwise.

Not sure what you mean, it is in sarge/etch/testing/unstable. It even

It would be nice if the description would contain information why the

Hi,

neutrino has been orphaned for a very long time now and I am evaluating
whether a request for removal should be finally filed.

You are receiving this mail because:
 - your name showed up somewhere in the history of the package
 - I think that you might be interested for some reason
 - or you maintain a related/similar package

Are you interested in adopting this package? Do you know potential adopters?
If so, please could you forward them this mail, Ccing the BTS and me?

If there is no action from anyone, I'll request the removal of this package
from Debian after a month.

Thank you,

Description: playlist editor / player frontend
Juice is a frontend for mpg123 and other players. It provides
 a nifty dialog-based playlist editor.
 .
It basically allows you to browse through your files in a
"Midnight Commander"-like fashion. The MP3's you select are
treated as a playlist which can be shuffled, rearranged,
 saved, etc.
 .
In order to play audio files, two player interfaces are
provided. The mpg123-specific interface uses the remote
protocol of mpg123 (This feature was introduced in version
0.59r in order to accommodate generic frontends.) The other
player frontend is generic and allows for any player to be
used. This is useful if you do not want to limit the
functionality of juice to MP3's. Please note that this
generic frontend is still in early beta phase and is
 pretty buggy.
 .
Of course juice comes with all the bells & whistles you'd
expect from a quality application and has (among others)
full integrated help functionality as well as full dialog
 based configuration file editor.

 .
Currently the configuration file support boolean values, integers, strings
(which can span multiple lines), and enumerations. Arrays and sections are
also supported and can be nested to unlimited depths.

Bug#361346: Remove

2008-09-17 Thread Frank Lichtenheld
severity 361346 serious
thanks

Hi,

astrolog has been orphaned for a long time now and I am evaluating
whether a request for removal should be finally filed.

Thank you,

No, I have no time to sponsor packages I'm not interested in. You are
welcome to adopt the package, but you will need to find a sponsor on
your own.

If this only handles bzr merge requests it would probably be good to call
the binary package bzr-bundlebuggy or something like that, so that a user can
easily identify it as being closely related to bzr. For the source
package it probably doesn't matter much since the name isn't really
generic ;)

What is the status of this ITP? I would be interested in this package.

Hmm, a sentence about why a user should use this program over "kdessh"
as shipped with KDE might be helpful.

Bug#422162: O: pbbuttonsd -- PBButtons daemon to handle special hotkeys of Apple computers

2007-05-03 Thread Frank Lichtenheld
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I rarely use my Powerbook anymore since I bought a new laptop.

I already packaged the latest upstream version but didn't get around to test
and upload it (for some months now :( ).

You can find it at http://people.debian.org/~djpig/orphan-pbbuttons
This directory also contains a tarball of my CVS repository in which
I maintained pbbuttonsd and related packages. Just in case you're interested
in the history of the packaging.

Anyone adopting this package should probably also adopt gtkpbbuttons and
powerprefs (for which I will separate O bugs though).

And how does that concern me? I didn't send that mail to you, I send it
to the BTS which send it to you...

Anyway:

- Christian Bayle uploaded the package but did not remove Wichert as
Maintainer. He instead added himself as uploader
- There is an ITA bug (#425860), owned by Michelle Konzack

So there seems to be indeed some confusion about who maintains this
package...

Hmm, I would think debian/copyright would be right place to mention the

Bug#203046: I would also volunteer

Hi.

I would also be interested in helping maintaining this package.
Have not much time atm (sorry for this short notice) but would come back
to it next week (perhaps better on IRC).

This solves not really the problem of a "primary" maintainer as both
volunteers so far are no DD's :/

Bug#337849: RFA: cvsbook -- Open Source Development with CVS, the book

2005-11-06 Thread Frank Lichtenheld
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the cvsbook package. Due to time constraints and
the fact that I little use it today, I would like to give it away. It is a
pretty low maintainance package unless you decide to try to package the
latest version of it which only comes as an PDF file you would have to convert
to something sensible first (see the homepage of the author for the
details).

I will not sponsor uploads of this package for non-DDs. In this case it
would probably easier to do the work myself...

The package description is:
This is an electronic version of the first edition of a book written by
Karl Fogel and published by Coriolis, Inc. This book covers CVS, starting
with a tutorial and going on to cover repository administration, more
advanced topics, troubleshooting, and a complete CVS reference.
 .
If you're looking for a gentle introduction to CVS, or an in-depth
coverage that's easier to follow than the documentation in CVS, read this
 book.

that your still intending to adopt the package.

But what is the status of your ITA? There is a RC against the package so

The package maintainer was set to QA by Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a,

Hi.

I just investigated the orphaned wn package:
 - It has a (easy fixable) RC bug
 - It's packaged in the worst form I've ever seen. Some kind
of home-breed packaging system. Totally bloated and confusing.
 - A new upstream version is available: 2.4.6 vs. 2.2.9, seems
there were a great number of releases in between
 - It's orphaned for nearly 300 days without any sign of interest from
   anyone.
 - It's configuration is not debconf based, and if you just choose the
   default answers loops forever.

Can we please just remove this one? It needs complete repackaging
anyway.

Hi Nathanael.

Unless you bcc'ed him the one who intended to adopt these packages
will not have received your mail, or am I mistaken?

But at least it reminds me that I need to weed out the ITA bugs again,
thx :)

I think I might have maintainers for cl-uncommonsql and

One should note that both pose and libfltk1 are orphaned, too.
So if nobody is interested in adopting/fixing pose, we could just
remove them (pose is not that long orphaned though)

How is this going? I downloaded the unofficial .deb packages available
at the mentioned URL and they worked fine. But the functionality seems
to be very limited. Is there anything one could help on this (both the
Debian and the upstream side?). Or are there any other GUI solutions
available (I didn't find any)?

You will need to prepare new packages, because you need to change
the soname for the g++ transition. The current packages must not be
