Bug#318692: xlibs-dev: compat package doesn't depend on libs formerly in xlibs-static-dev
Package: xlibs-dev Version: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-2 Severity: serious The current version of xlibs-dev is not fully backwards-compatible with previous versions built from xfree86, because in the xorg tree a number of packages have been split out of the xlibs-static-dev package, e.g., libxxf86vm-dev. Packages that previously had a build-dependency on xlibs-dev only now FTBFS; if the intention is to break backwards compatibility, I think it would be better to drop the xlibs-dev package altogether, otherwise these libs should be re-added to the dependencies of xlibs-dev. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-2-686-smp Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages xlibs-dev depends on: ii libice-dev 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 Inter-Client Exchange library deve ii libsm-dev4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System Session Management ii libx11-dev 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System protocol client li ii libxext-dev 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxi-dev4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System Input extension li ii libxmu-dev 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System miscellaneous util ii libxmuu-dev 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 lightweight X Window System miscel ii libxp-dev4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System printing extension ii libxpm-dev 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X pixmap library development files ii libxrandr-dev4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System Resize, Rotate and ii libxt-dev4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Toolkit Intrinsics development f ii libxtrap-dev 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System protocol-trapping ii libxtst-dev 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System event recording an ii libxv-dev4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System video extension li ii pm-dev 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 proxy management protocol developm ii x-dev4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X protocol development files ii xlibs-static-dev 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System client library dev -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#318688: x11-common: conffile prompts for /etc/X11/Xsession* when replacing xfree86-common
Package: x11-common Version: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-2 Severity: important When installing x11-common on my existing sid system that had the latest xfree86-common installed, I was presented with conffile prompts for /etc/X11/Xsession and /etc/X11/Xsession.options even though I have never edited them. This is probably because dpkg doesn't know an md5sum for a previous version of these conffiles *associated with the x11-common package*, since they previously belonged to xfree86-common. You will probably need to detect unmodified versions of the xfree86-common conffiles in x11-xorg's preinst, and remove them so that they're not in the way when dpkg goes to install the new conffiles. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-2-686 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages x11-common depends on: ii debconf 1.4.52 Debian configuration management sy ii debianutils 2.14.1 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii lsb-base 3.0-1 Linux Standard Base 2.0 init scrip x11-common recommends no packages. -- debconf information: x11-common/experimental_packages: -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#318162: xterm: boldMode enabled even if bold font is used
The problem is font name stored in normal is being overwritten by a bold font name and then normal is used in comparison with a myfonts.f_b to decide whether they are the same and whether to turn on overstriking. The attached patch fixes it. I think the XSF was essentially following Ubuntu's lead here; no one realized, or thought to check, that the C++ bits weren't exported as part of the ABI. David, do you want me to put together a patch that updates the Provides/Conflicts of libglu1-xorg appropriately? (Might as well keep the name change now that it's been done, I think.) -- Steve Langasek postmodern programmer signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#318650: xlibs: [xkb] package update silently removes a modified rules file
Package: xlibs Version: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-2 Severity: normal I like to use alt+caps-lock to switch between keyboard layouts. For this, I use a modified symbols/group file which declares a partial map called alt_caps_toggle. To complement it, I added in /etc/X11/xkb/rules/xfree86 a definition for grp:alt_caps_toggle which was the obvious groups(alt_caps_toggle). Recently, I updated the system, and the new xlibs silently replaced my modified file with a soft link to ./xorg. I was not asked about it, no copy of my old file was saved, etc. It may be noted that I *was* politely asked about the new symbols/group file. -- Package-specific info: No X.Org X server log files found. Are you aware of a situation that needs this or are you doing this "just in case"? I have tried several GLU-using C++ and libraries compiled with g++ 3.3 with the binary provided by libglu1-xorg and they are working fine. I have also compiled programs against libglu1-xorg's libGLU and they run fine with other libGLUs compiled with gcc 3.3. Bug#318634: dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg forget all the previous value
Package: xserver-xorg Version: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-2 Severity: normal Hello, First of all, i would like to thank you for the great work done from XFree86 to X.org. When i try to reconfigure X.org i use the standard "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" command line. All the values are taken into account and written in /etc/X11/xorg.conf (and a backup file is created). BUT if i do it again, all the values i have set are forgotten... That is a little bit annoying -- especially when you are trying new configurations ;-) The value reported by "debconf-show xserver-xorg" are the good ones (see below), but it seems that they are overwritten at the beginning of the xserver-xorg.config... (i don't know where). Actually, the patch I posted is bogus and doesn't fix anything. The following works for me, but will probably break others. I'm not sure how to make bouth 120 and 208 produce a HKTG, and both KPDC and 211 produce a AB11. I only need the former in each case, but for people who need the latter, my patch falls appart. Bug#318576: *-dev: Please include lib* descriptions in lib*-dev / lib*-dbg ditto
Package: xorg-x11 Severity: minor The X development packages currently have incomplete descriptions such as: Header files and a static version of the SM library are provided by this package. . See the libsm6 package for further information. While this seems to be an increasingly common practice, it appears to be against policy and even if there is an exception for this, it is certainly user-unfriendly. Rationale: Most package selection front ends, including aptitude, only display the description for the current package. References to the descriptions of other packages thus require a rather large number of keystrokes to read (compared to 0 (zero) for the description of the package itself). I respectfully suggest that the phrase "see the package for further information" in these cases be replaced by the actual description of that package. It may be preferable for this to be done by a script, so future changes to the description of are automagically reflected in the -dev package.
