Bug#390271: compiz: unusable (very very slow) with r300
Package: compiz Version: 0.0.13+git20060928-2 Severity: important Compiz is totally unsuable with an r300-based card (using the free driver). Bug#390203: Acknowledgement (xserver-xorg-video-mga: Black screen on G400)
Meanwhile it seems it's not so bad, so at least the priority can be downgraded to normal (not sure about closing it yet). It appears that at 85 Hz I can get any resolution up to 1162x864 but not 1280x960 or 1280x1024. I can also get 1280x960 @ 60 Hz. So it might be my monitor dying (no good way to test it yet, it's a heavy 20" CRT), or some problem with programming higher clock rates. Has anything changed it clock setting/... in the last month? -- Meelis Roos ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? r300 problems with current Xorg 1.1.1-9 build
Thierry, I need the following three (3) patches in order for r300 to work smoothly with compiz/beryl: 30_fedora_offscreen-pixmaps.patch 31_fedora_no_move_damage.patch 32_fedora_dont_backfill_bg_none.patch Explaination of each 30_fedora_offscreen-pixmaps: +/* When the GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is used, as it's + * implemented here, we want to pull pixmap out of video memory + * and into host memory. */ + XAAEvictPixmaps function is for composite. 31_fedora_no_move_damage (spiffiffity) Disable damage notifications on move for manually redirected windows. The automatic compositor needs damage notification on move, but a compositing manager doesn't. 32_fedora_dont_backfill_gb_none (spiffiffity) Disable backfilling of windows created with bg=none, which otherwise would force a framebuffer readback. Without these 3, compiz/beryl rendering is extremely slow, VT switching slow, resizing windows stalls whole system. Can someone whos familar with these comment so we can intergrate these into 1.1.1-10? :) Thanks, Shawn. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? debian unstable sis driver does not work
Hi everybody, Since the last dist-upgrade of my debian unstable laptop system X didn't come up again. The display flickered for a short time and then stayed black, even if i switched to console mode again. The only way to get it working in this stage was rebooting (console worked but i couldn't see what i type). I tried recompiling the packages (xserver-xorg and xserver-xorg-video-sis), the error remained the same. Now I'm using the testing versions of these packages without problems. I don't know how I can help you figuring out what's the error, there was nothing to be found in the logs. Only the CPU clock count was a little bit strange (3*10^8 Mhz). Write me what I can do, I hope it will work again soon Michael -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#390172: xserver-xorg-core: X hangs on startup with black screen with dual head on amd64
Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 2:1.1.1-8 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable When starting the X server on a dual-head amd64 system, it fails to initialise the screen, and ends up halting on a black screen. The X server process remains running, but one cannot do anything with it. The server appears to halt when it tries to initialise the second graphics card using the int10 module. Logging into the system via the network still works. Pressing CTRL-ALT-F1 does not return the user to a text-mode console, so it renders the whole system unusable to anyone who does not know how to prevent the X server from starting on boot. Moreover, if the X server is killed and started again, the whole system crashes. Can't switch resolution
Hi there On 27 Sep I upgraded my Sid box. Since then I can't switch resolution with Ctrl Alt + or Ctrl Alt - anymore. I can select another desktop with Ctrl Fx. Ctrl Alt Fx works too. So does Ctrl Alt Backspace. xvidtune -next and xvidtune -prev also work. Any ideas? Bug#390162: xorg: conflicting locale settings and keyboard input
Package: xorg Version: 1:7.0.22 Severity: normal Hello, I switched recently to utf8 encoding, but I would like to keep some terminals as pure iso-8859-1 displays. In utf8-aware terminal, there are no problems, but accentuated letters typed in iso-8859-1 terminal are ignored at the shell level. I proceed as follows: -launch xterm +u8, which 'bash' as shell. There is nothing about utf8 in .Xressources or .Xdefaults -stty -a shows the terminal does not support utf8 (-iutf8) -locale is set as: export LANG=fr_BE.ISO-8859-1 -'locale' report everything is iso-8859-1 - launching programs does not generate any warning about missing locales - xorg keyboard configured as 105 keys, Belgian - xev window show the code generated for é is eacute, 0xe9 - typing 'é' at the bash level does not produce anything, even with output-meta and convert-meta set to on - in vi, typing 'é' results in the double char 0xc3 0xa9 (utf-8) - displaying this file with 'more' shows two graphic chars - recode utf8..iso-8859-1 file and displaying again with more shows the right character, 'é' It seems that the problems results from conflicting locales: -xterm locales from its environment are utf-8 -bash locales from its environment are iso8859-1 The problem disappears if xterm is launched as env LANG=en_US.ISO-8859-1 xterm Would it be possible to sort this conflict ? The version in SVN fixes this and also relaxes some other build-dependencies which I had at some point versioned ridiculously high to make sure to get them from experimental. This is now unnecessary. I've also improved the compiz wrapper script a bit and added a manpage documenting the wrapper. Revision -2 was uploaded by Anthony Towns because -1 still installed the compiz binary into the compiz package instead of compiz-core. That said, version -3 in SVN should be fine for another upload by anyone who would like to. - Thierry signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#379480: (no subject)
Could you try upgrading xserver-xorg-xxx to unstable version to see whether the problem persists in later versions? Just tried that, setting source.list to unstable, starting interactive aptitude, and trying to '+' various xorg-related packages. All of them seemed to run afoul of xserver_xorg-code conflicts with xserver-xorg-video (provided by lots of packages, including the xserver-xorg-video-fbdev 1:0.1.0.5-2 I'm currently using.) or the like. Telling it to update xserver-xorg-video-fbdev doesn't help. Telling it to update *every( installed package whose name contains the text "xerver-xorg" doesn't help either. By the way, installing a complete sid system a few months ago didn't help either. Hi! did the dependency problem resolver in aptitude offer any suggestions? Maybe, you can remove xserver-xorg-video only leaving your current video driver. A few months ago, there weren't xorg 7.1 in unstable Regards Jiri Palecek -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

(new) compiz-core_0.0.13+git20060928-2_i386.deb optional x11 OpenGL window and compositing manager Compiz brings to life a variety of visual effects that make the Linux desktop easier to use, more powerful and intuitive, and more accessible for users with special needs. . Compiz combines together a window manager and a composite manager using OpenGL for rendering. A "window manager" allows the manipulation of the multiple applications and dialog windows that are presented on the screen. A "composite manager" allows windows and other graphics to be combined together to create composite images. Compiz achieves its stunning effects by doing both of these functions.
