Doesn't look like it's actually attached? Make sure you set
CONFIG_DRM_I915_KMS=y.

Bug#600490: Russian phonetic layout on a jp keyboard?

 Note jp106 string in gconftool-2.

 Indeed it looks suspicious.

I do not know where it comes from (do I still have an old config file
lying around?) and whether it is harmless.

Well, in the gconf case, the config file is the gconf database, more
precisely ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard. You can use the
 gconftool-2 command to change it.

I used the gconf-editor to erase jp106 substring from layouts,
and this has cured the popup error messages.
This also disabled Russian keyboard, though.
gconftool-2 showed
layouts = [jp], as expected.

Then I added the keyboard I need via Gnome interface, and got it working.
gconftool-2 shows
layouts = [jp, ru  phonetic]
as it was needed.

I suppose this is resolved is some way, at least for me.
(probably the squeeze installer/updater needs to be more aggressive in cleaning
up unknown options...)

Thank you all for your time,
Dmitrii.

PS. I wish the experience of fixing this did not resemble editing
Windows registry that much :-)

That, plus since you have no xorg.conf, it should fall back to vesa

It'd be nice if you could confirm this point while rebuilding with the
option Julien mentioned. :)

Bug#428091: Display has wrong colours and is offset

Hello Andrew Ruthven,

Interestingy enough if my monitor is turned off then X starts up okay.
I'm guessing because there is no DDC data to fetch, so X doesn't try and

I've attached the logfile for a working X session (the one I'm currently
   using).

Does this problem still apply with today xserver-xorg-core and
xserver-xorg-video-mga from unstable? If so, can you send the
corresponding config and log? I will forward the bug upstream.
I don't know if it was forwarded upstream, I found that one that
looks similar: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4306

Yes this problem is still happening. I've tracked it down a bit
further, it doesn't happen when X is using a depth of 24 bpp, but does
 with 16 (I haven't tried other depths).

Running 'startx' with no config file gives me a working X display
running at 1280x800 at 60 Hz (the highest resolution the card can drive
 at 24 bpp).

Running 'startx -- -depth 16' with no config file gives me an offset X
display with funny colours running at 1600x1200 at 75Hz (the highest
 resolution my monitor can handle).

By disabling DDC and providing reasonable horizontal and vertical ranges
 I can happily run 1600x1200 at 75Hz.

I have attached log files for both test runs, the first run at 24 bpp is
okay-24bpp.log and the second run is bad-16bpp.log.

 xserver-xorg-core:
   Installed: 2:1.4.1~git20080131-2

 xserver-xorg-video-mga:
   Installed: 1:1.4.8.dfsg.1-1
   Candidate: 1:1.4.8.dfsg.1-1

 Cheers!

The Xserver package have evolved since that time, are you still
experiencing this issue ?
If not, can you tell me the versions you are using so I can close the
bug accordingly.

Thanks for your time,

But it's the same as

  xset m 1 1

i. e. does not slow down my mouse. Accelerations above 1 work.

Hi,

Since the last upgrade (2:2.13.0-2 - 2:2.13.0-4), X is unable to start

X starts normally with the vesa driver.

You need to enable kernel mode setting (make sure
/etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf says 'options i915 modeset=1') and get rid
of the vga=791 boot parameter.

My system was fine with the previous driver - now without an xorg.conf, X

saying no screens found. modeset 1 or modeset 0 makes no difference.

Bug#541388: xserver-xorg: Xmodmap settings lost across suspend/hibernate

2010-12-08 Thread Joseph Maher

I also have this problem on one machine only, other machines work fine.
I've attached an X log in case its of any use.

I use both xmodmap and xinput to change settings, and both sets of changes
are lost. It may be of interest to know that re-running xinput restores
the desired settings, but re-running xmodmap does not.

The xinput line I use is:

My system was fine with the previous driver - now without an xorg.conf, X

 anything
saying no screens found. modeset 1 or modeset 0 makes no difference.

Please attach the full dmesg and lspci -v (when booting with

Bug#606372: Hard power cycle fixes it.

2010-12-08 Thread C. Scott Ananian
A power cycle (power off, power on) fixes the crash. Restarting just
X didn't fix the problem; reverting to
xserver-common_2%3a1.7.7-9_all.deb,
xserver-xorg-core_2%3a1.7.7-9_i386.deb,
xserver-xephyr_2%3a1.7.7-9_i386.deb, and
xserver-xorg-video-intel_2%3a2.13.0-2_i386.deb also didn't fix the
problem.

My diagnosis is that this is a not-recent bug in initializing the GPU
-- the GPU can get into some funny state that the current init code
can not fix, and which will cause a later segfault in the DRI code.

*However* another possibility is that rebooting changed the kernel
version. The logs from the bug I submitted above say the kernel was:

Linux version 2.6.32-5-686 ... Sat Oct 30 22:47:19 UTC 2010
which corresponds to debian version linux-2.6 (2.6.32-27), and my
current running kernel version (which doesn't show the bug) is:

Linux skiffserv 2.6.32-5-686 ... Thu Nov 25 18:43:34 UTC 2010
which corresponds to debian version linux-2.6 (2.6.32-28).

I will try to downgrade the kernel to determine which of these
theories is correct.

I couldn't find a .deb for the 2.6.32-27 kernel, so couldn't verify
that -27 was at fault. Feel free to reassign/close, since
everything's fine with the 2.6.32-28 kernel.

I'm not convinced it's a kernel problem, because I'm fairly sure (but
not certain) that I had used successfully used virtualbox at some
point before my previous reboot. That is, I *think* that I had
managed to avoid the crash at least once when running 2.6.32-27. But
I can't easily confirm that now.

Bug#428091: Display has wrong colours and is offset

2010-12-08 Thread Andrew Ruthven
Hi Julien,

I've changed monitors and as soon as I switched monitors the problem
went away. I can haul the old monitor out of my storage unit and try it
out next week to see if the issue is still present.

Hi,

Interestingy enough if my monitor is turned off then X starts up okay.
I'm guessing because there is no DDC data to fetch, so X doesn't try and
be clever about the modelines.

  Versions:

  xserver-xorg-core:
Installed: 2:1.4.1~git20080131-2
Candidate: 2:1.4.1~git20080131-2
  xserver-xorg-video-mga:
Installed: 1:1.4.8.dfsg.1-1
Candidate: 1:1.4.8.dfsg.1-1

  Cheers!

The Xserver package have evolved since that time, are you still
 experiencing this issue ?
If not, can you tell me the versions you are using so I can close the
 bug accordingly.

 Thanks for your time,

 Best Regards,

Hi,

Katsuhiko Nishimra kat...@hotmail.com (09/12/2010):
I also encountered similar symptons, and managed to solve the
problem. First, My Thinkpad X200 system stop using intel driver but
vesa driver, and as I worked on xorg.conf various defects came up
through, then finally I found out that no xorg.conf and kernel with
CONFIG_DRM_I915_KMS=y seems to solve the problem.

-intel needs KMS. That's known and documented, see:

  anything
saying no screens found. modeset 1 or modeset 0 makes no difference.

Please attach the full dmesg and lspci -v (when booting with
 i915.modeset=0 and i915.modeset=1).

Just fyi: I went back to 2:2.13.0-2 (from Squeeze )
and everything is fine - modeset=1, loads Intel driver, no xorg.conf.

Bug#531486: regression: xrandr does not rotate correctly

2010-12-08 Thread Borden Rhodes
The problem has since seemed to be fixed, albeit with new problems in
the display dimming, but that's covered in a different bug. You can
close this one.

Package: xorg
Version: 1:7.3+18
Severity: normal

Since upgrading to the latest version of the X server (Intel 852/855 chipset),
whenever I try to launch xrandr --rotate on my 1024x768 display, instead of
the rotated display going 1024px down and 768px across (so that it fills my
tablet), it goes 1024px across and 768px down. This means that I lose the
right-hand side of my display and there's a black bar at the bottom of my
rotated screen. I can 'unrotate' it back successfully.

This did work before upgrading X. I suspect that it's a problem with the
Intel driver but I can't prove it.

Weird, you're not getting drm and i915 loaded at all. What's the output
of:
/sbin/modprobe -b -n -v pci:v8086d2572sv1028sd0277bc03sc00i00
?

Do you have a display_class file in /etc/modprobe.d? Or anything with
'blacklist i915'?

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#606348: workaround

2010-12-08 Thread Charles

You're mentioning that i915 and drm modules were not getting
loaded (I **assume** they are supposed to be loaded automatically)
led me to try loading them manually. It worked, allowing
X to load using the Intel driver.
So in the interim, I have put i915 and drm into /etc/modules
so they get loaded on booting.

They would, I you haven't prevented that.

The real solution is to delete your display_class.conf file which
inhibits automatic loading of i915.
