Bug#627568: [xserver-xorg-video-nouveau] Dual head problem: Flicker on 2nd monitor using GeForce 8500 GT

Yes, if the primary monitor is disconnected, leaving only the 2nd one
the blinking was still present.

The 2nd monitor is a fairly old IIyama Vision Master Pro 452. It always
used to be a bit funny with the old nv driver, although I have to say,
the Nvidia proprietary driver never gave a problem with this old monitor.

On the other hand, using xrandr is much more configurable and sensible
than Nvidia's silly "twinview" setup. ;-)

Removing the Nvidia proprietary driver has left my system completely
free of non-free and contrib packages!

> Try booting with drm_kms_helper.poll=0 kernel parameter.

That does it! Well done: No more flicker!

In case any readers are not familiar with grub2 I edited:
/etc/default/grub
thus:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet drm_kms_helper.poll=0"

and ran (as root)
update-grub2

then rebooted.

Thanks Sven.

It's a passive, got an active on order now, so I will see if that does
the trick. Thanks for the advice.

Are you using native DP or a DP to HDMI converter? If you are using a
converter, is it an active or passive converter? If it's passive,
you'll have the same limitation as before.

Switched HDMI for DP, so now running 2 x DVI and 1 x DP, I get exactly

Bug#576427: versioning mix-up

Hi,

Help is always welcome. Personally I haven't been spending a great
deal of time/effort on compiz because the manner in which the upstream
author manages the project is *really* burdensome and it's really easy
for me to lose energy/time/motivation.

I think the original plan was to move to the 0.9.x version, and we
started that with uploads to experimental a couple months back. however,
the software proved to be less than super stable (crashy, leaking memory,
etc), so it hasn't been transitioned into unstable.

unfortunately i made the mistake of doing the experimental-targeted work
in the unstable branch, thinking it'd be a quick transition, and now we're
stuck in a kind of in-between state unsure of what the next upload to unstable
will be.

and it's already there. the versions are all messed up because
the upstream author never took the time to push out the proper tags,
but I believe everything is approximately 0.9.4.

if you'd like to help with updating the compiz packages, you're more than
welcome to join up :)

Seems to be the same problem as bug #615975.
The proposed workaround works for me (remove fontpath "unix/:7100).

Bug#626646: libgl1-mesa-dri: [amd64,i965] crash in prepare_wm_surfaces

2011-05-22 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Hi,

Sami Liedes (20/05/2011):
> Perhaps this is a bug in xserver-xorg-video-intel after all?

trying what happens with upstream's master merged into the
debian-unstable branch of our repository [1] might be a good idea. If
that still fails, opening a bug upstream (xorg, Driver/intel) should
get you an answer:
  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/

You could also check what happens with mesa master too:
  /usr/share/doc/xorg/howto/build-mesa.*
  http://pkg-xorg.alioth.debian.org/howto/build-mesa.html [1]

Mraw,
KiBi.

 1. Alioth's being migrated, but I can provide you with an up-to-date
debian repository for xxv-intel if you feel like it; just ask
through a private mail if you need that. For reference see:
