Seems 4.x aint compatible with my display card, so using 3.3.6a
and cannot get a resolution higher than 640 x 480 - see output below.
If I try to run the fbdev server, I get a compaint that the
/dev/... does not exist.

Cannot achieve a higher resolution under windows either though.

(If there is a more appropriate forum for me to go with this, then please
advise.)

Apple Multiscan 1705 - writing Xf86Config

Is this an appropriate forum to ask for assistance in writing

If not please suggest where I might do this.

sid 4.1 configuration problem

2001-11-23 Thread Eric Smith
My knowledge of X does not allow me to be too concise as I am not sure where to
go
to isolate the problem. SO I have attached quite a lot of bytes
in the hope that someone may be able to identify the source of
the problem.

I have a display where the top 20% is not usable - it has the
normal pin-cushion background of a raw X session but the mouse
does not enter the region. This problem was not present while
on 3.x.

After trying just about every config method I could glean, the
problem is still there.

I have attached the XFree86Config-4 that was created with xf86cfg
and the /var/log/Xfree86.0.log appropriately renamed. This as you
see failed with a screen not found error.

The other config and log pair (new) was created with X -config
and this gives a sort of working display with the problem of
the 20% unusable screen.

Any clues please?

thanx
