Bug#575486: xdm: Input field cursor reveals password length
Package: xdm Version: 1:1.1.9-1 Severity: normal After upgrading from xdm 1:1.1.8-6 to 1:1.1.9-1, the password input field cursor moves a little to the right (maybe a "space" character in proportional font) for each password character typed, so that it gives a hint about how long the password is. Although this is not as obvious as printing asterisks or similar, it should not happen. I'm not sure if this report belongs to xdm or to xserver-xorg, and/or xserver-xorg-input-all, since at the same time of upgrading xdm, the following upgrades took place: [UPGRADE] xserver-xorg 1:7.5+3 -> 1:7.5+5 [UPGRADE] xserver-xorg-input-all 1:7.5+3 -> 1:7.5+5 As the symptom shows in xdm, I'm reporting it for this package. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (50, 'unstable'), (25, 'experimental'), (12, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-trunk-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.ISO-8859-15, LC_CTYPE=en_US.ISO-8859-15 (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages xdm depends on: ii cpp 4:4.4.2-3 The GNU C preprocessor (cpp) ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.28 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 2.10.2-6 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libpam0g 1.1.1-2Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libselinux1 2.0.89-4 SELinux runtime shared libraries ii libx11-6 2:1.3.3-2 X11 client-side library ii libxau6 1:1.0.5-2 X11 authorisation library ii libxaw7 2:1.0.7-1 X11 Athena Widget library ii libxdmcp6 1:1.0.3-2 X11 Display Manager Control Protoc ii libxext6 2:1.1.1-3 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxft2 2.1.14-2 FreeType-based font drawing librar ii libxinerama1 2:1.1-3X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxmu6 2:1.0.5-1 X11 miscellaneous utility library ii libxpm4 1:3.5.8-1 X11 pixmap library ii libxrender1 1:0.9.5-2 X Rendering Extension client libra ii libxt61:1.0.7-1 X11 toolkit intrinsics library ii lsb-base 3.2-23 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii procps1:3.2.8-8 /proc file system utilities ii x11-common1:7.5+5X Window System (X.Org) infrastruc ii x11-utils 7.5+3 X11 utilities ii x11-xserver-utils 7.5+1 X server utilities ii xbase-clients 1:7.5+5miscellaneous X clients - metapack xdm recommends no packages. xdm suggests no packages. -- debconf information: * shared/default-x-display-manager: xdm xdm/stop_running_server_with_children: false xdm/daemon_name: /usr/bin/xdm -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". [Bug?] xorg dependencies make installation of libgl1-mesa-swx11 impossible
Hi! This looks like a bug, but I'm not sure about it, so before reporting it, I want to ask about it here: I'm using Etch on a box with a Matrox G450. As running glxgears using libgl1-mesa-dri crashed my box a while ago (only Alt-SysRq-... worked), I wanted to install libgl1-mesa-swx11 again. But with xorg 1:7.0.22, I cannot install "libgl1-mesa-swx11" (see transcript at the end of this mail). xorg depends on libgl1-mesa-glx, which provides "libgl1" and thus conflicts with libgl1-mesa-swx11, which also provides "libgl1". Is this a bug, or did I miss something? Should xorg only depend on "libgl1", or shouldn't libgl1-mesa-dri and -swx11 provide "libgl1"? If it's a bug, should I use reportbug to report it officially?
