Hy,

did not know if this came up, but I like the "old" mosaic style as seen
at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosaic and maybe this could combined
with photo-mosaic like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photographic_mosaic ?!
This COULD be a bit difficult, because the pieces would be small, but
maybe an idea ...

That's a good pattern; I think that's a plugin of gimp; I have a
wallpaper like that that I made a long time ago:

[Design-team] background idea

I was thinking while the literal moisac idea is beautiful, abstracting the
idea can make for really deep background that can be made less distracting.
Here's a texture/color layer I've been playing around with. (as its self
it's a bit distracting, but layered over solid it really is pretty). I will
waive CC requirements for Fedora use.
