[Bug 354962] [NEW] Gimp does not start since last Jauty updates

2009-04-03 Thread Gustavo A . Díaz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

Hi,

Since today last updates, Gimp stopped to work. I was using it before issuing
and dist-upgrade with apt.
I am using Kubuntu Jaunty. When I launch Gimp (from kde menu or a
terminal/konsole) it does not show its window... but the process runs:

gustavo 8014 3.6 0.2 39472 6676 pts/1Sl+ 02:35 0:00 gimp

Under the console, i have the follows msgs:

(gimp-2.6:8019): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: specified class size for type
`GimpOperationPointFilter' is smaller than the parent type's
`GeglOperationPointFilter' class size

(gimp-2.6:8019): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_once_init_leave: assertion
`initialization_value != 0' failed

(gimp-2.6:8019): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_type_register_static:

`initialization_value != 0' failed

(gimp-2.6:8019): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: cannot retrieve class for
invalid (unclassed) type `'

And I have to kill the process. Since if i launch Gimp again, will start
a new one:

gustavo 8023 1.7 0.2 39472 6676 pts/1Sl+ 02:36 0:00 gimp

[Bug 354954] [NEW] Dbus error: Nautilus won't mount hard-disk partitions

2009-04-03 Thread jmite
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I'm using Ubuntu version 9.04.
On this system, nautilus is version 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu4.
Dbus is version 1.2.12-0ubuntu2.

The partitions on my hard-drive which mount automatically, /, /home, /boot, etc
are fine. However, I have a partition that holds my 8.10 installation, and a
partition which holds Ubuntu Studio. Both are ext3. When I click on them to
mount them in nautilus, it pauses for a long time, then gives the following
message:

"Unable to mount 10.0 GM Media
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply
(timeout by message bus)"

The mount properly via the console, but will not mount from Nautilus.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: amd64
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
MediaBuild: Ubuntu 9.04 "Jaunty Jackalope" - Beta amd64 (20090324)
Package: nautilus 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu4

I think so. I ran "killall gnome-power-manager && gnome-power-manager"...
That should have done it right? With v4 it switched back to old style meter
and v5 had new style.

Tested with Jaunty Live CD. Same exact problem still exists.

Permissions on .gvfs folder are set to 700 in order to prevent

Marking xscreensaver task as Invalid. It launches the pacman screensaver
and not the game. This looks to be because hack_environment() in
subprocs.c puts the DEFAULT_PATH_PREFIX at the front of the PATH, so the
screensaver is found before the game.

[Bug 354869] [NEW] Loading and storing folders is slow

2009-04-03 Thread Benjamin Jencks
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

After upgrading to Jaunty, loading and storing folders is extremely slow
on large mailboxes. For instance, it just took about 10 seconds for my
inbox with 8449 messages to come up, and over 30 for another mailbox
with 8652 messages, with the message "Generating message list" in the
statusbar. In Intrepid it came up immediately. Additionally, switching
views between "All Messages" and "Unread Messages" causes this delay. My
home directory is on an NFS share, and during the delay I see high
levels of NFS traffic, so it's apparently doing lots of file accesses
that it didn't do before.

This really kills usability, when I get a new message I don't want to go
click on the folder and wait for it to load; I'll do something else and
forget about it. If it weren't a regression I'd just attribute it to NFS
slowness, but it worked fine in Intrepid.

Here's another clue: this issue started to occur on my system (8.10)
after I've changed my password. It worked fine before. I found the same
messages in my /var/log/auth.log as SteveLoughran. The only difference
to before the password change are the last to lines:

Apr 4 07:05:55 seawind gnome-keyring-daemon[5520]: Failed to unlock login on

RE: [Bug 349555] Re: gvfsd-gphoto2 crashed with SIGSEGV in strlen()

2009-04-03 Thread scotty2

This particular problem seems to be gone since the last update. Have not been
able to replicate it the last two days.

Gnomad works like it should, mostly - plug in the player, open gnomad,
it mounts and lets me add tracks, etc... However, if I try to edit a
track, it completely locks the program, to the point that I have to kill
it to shut the program down. If I don't attempt that, it seems to work
ok, although that function is kind of a big part of music management.

Rhythmbox works well, with MTP enabled, and allows playback, etc from
the Zen. The only weird thing is that it does not eject/unmount when
finished. If I exit without using the eject in Rhythmbox, I get a pop-up
error:

'Unable to mount Creative Technology, Ltd Creative Zen Vision:M
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply
(timeout by message bus)'

If I then go and re-open Rhythmbox, I can use it again, and then eject
within the program and everything is back to normal. Probably should
have rhythmbox unmount on close for MTP.

Should probably forward that info along to rhythmbox/mtp folks.
Also not sure about the problem with Gnomad, if it has to do with libmtp or what

[Bug 354820] [NEW] Cannot configure Evolution Mail to send via comcast.net

2009-04-03 Thread Joe Hays
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have established an email account, linux...@comcast.net, on the
Comcast server. I have been able to configure Evolution Mail to receive
messages sent to this address, but after several weeks of trying, I have
not been able to configure Evolution Mail to send messages.I have
verified with Comcast that Comcast is a POP server and that the correcct
configuration for sending email is smtp.comcast.net. I have followed
the instructions in Evolution Mail>Edit>Preferences>Mail Accounts>+Add
to configure Evolution Mail to an apparent successful conclusion
according to the setup wizard, but still, when I try to send a message,
it simply goes to my Outbox and will not go.

I can go directly to email on my Comcast server and send email
successfully from there, so the problem is not with Comcast but with
Evolution Mail

Obviously, I have missed something in the configuration of Evolution
Mail to send messages, but I am at my wits end to figure out what it
is,partocularly since the setup wizard tells me I have followed all
necessary steps successfully.

I need aminutely detailed set of configuration instructions to show me
where I've gone wrong..

[Bug 341463] Re: Unreachable network mounts cause annoying hangs

2009-04-03 Thread Sandro Mani
Tested with today's updates (gvfs 1.2.1-0ubuntu1) and the problem persists. To
test, I mounted various cifs shares and a ssh share, put the laptop to suspend,
plugged out the cable, resumed, and after inserting the password to unlock gdm,
the usual symptoms were noticable, namely
CIFS VFS: Unexpected lookup error -112
and also the X crash with
WARNING: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0

Changing back to new as the bug is not fixed.

[Bug 352658] Re: evolution does not collect mail fromcomcast ao

2009-04-03 Thread Nathan
Hi,

I have the same problem:

I have several mail accounts (all IMAP) and since tuesday I didn't
receive any mails via evolution anymore. When I check online my mail
(via webmail) I see that their are actually some mails for me which
didn't show up in evolution.

For some reason all messages were marked as spam, got in my local spam
box (without any notification) and were removed when I closed evolution
(removed from the local spam list, and from the server)

Not checking for spam is a (temporary) solution. My spam filter was
bogofilter...

I'm using Jaunty.

2009-04-03 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for your bug report. However, it isn't completely clear what
problem you're describing. Firstly, the volume hotkeys have nothing to
do with Rhythmbox AFAIK. If the issue is with the delay between pressing
the hotkey and the notification appearing, then that's likely a gnome-
settings-daemon or notify-osd bug, not a Rhythmbox bug. Or is there a
delay between pressing the key and the volume actually changing? What do
you mean by "it takes a long time for the application to first become
gray and then the notifcation to appear"?

[Bug 172615] Re: totam won't play mpg files

2009-04-03 Thread joewski
I have added VLC from th repository and found that it will play the
above mpg correctly. I knew the file was ok because I tested again under
windows but I thought I'd better prove the file could be loaded and
played in Ubuntu also.

I have retested after installing VLC and the latest round of updates and
still no update has fixed the mpg playing issue. I was hoping that VLC
might add the required codec to the player, but it appears that was not
the problem.

[Bug 354243] Re: Nautilus fails to browse any share on network to which Iomega Home Network Hard Drive (MDHD500-N, firmware K108.W15) is attached.

2009-04-03 Thread Stephen D Kamm
If you're looking for a specific log I have yet to produce, please point
to it.

These results were produced with a live session of Ubuntu 9.04 beta
desktop i386. I intend to proceed with a work-around on my
installations, so the Iomega NAS will no longer be in its hard-reset
state. I am willing to follow further instructions using a boot from a
live session disk, however. Let me know if you prefer an earlier
version.

[Bug 354720] Re: Nauilus crashes when I boot into Jaunty

2009-04-03 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-
file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where
_my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 354728] [NEW] evolution does not poll mail server at set frequency

2009-04-03 Thread Charles Free
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have a set of mail accounts on my ISP's server and matching folders in
evolution. If I click on Send/Receive, everything works fine and
e-mails are filtered to the right folders. All accounts are set up (as
in Mail Preferences) to check for e-mails every 60 minutes, but I find
that they do not do so. When I check manually, I find several e-mails
sitting waiting for me, some timed three or four hours earlier.

I think this bug was introduced in a recent upgrade. I used to get a
mail notification icon while I was doing something else, but of course I
no longer do so. (Some documentation mentions an option to get a beep
on arrival of e-mail, but I have no such option in Preferences. Has it
gone?)

Versions: Ubuntu 8.10/evolution 2.24.3, both up to date as of two days
ago.

This is only a minor nuisance to me, but if it is a bug, it is a serious
one. Alternatively, if I have missed something, I should appreciate
some guidance.

Thank you.

The workaround from bug 321444 works for me as well: after attaching and

instead of the xevent tool you can use the xdotool app which is
