[Bug 395274] Re: Need to reset my server how to do that?

2009-07-05 Thread Felix Crux
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report, but rather a help question, so we are
closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker.

We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more
sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are
bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs .

[Bug 321311] Re: gnome-screensaver dialog helper spins indefinitely, never unlocks the session, when GTK_IM_MODULE is set

2009-07-05 Thread schubby
I'm having a similar problem in Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit. I'm using AD
authentication. If I lock the screen, and then put in the password to
unlock, it quickly takes me back to the screensaver, and then if I move
the mouse, it justs asks for the password again, and this can keep on
cycling.

To get back to the session, in the Enter Password dialog, I select
Switch User, put in the same domain/user and password and it takes me
into my session.

This keeps happening from time to time and it fixes itself. Then it
comes back again.

[Bug 395674] Re: manage hdmi volume audio doesn't work

2009-07-05 Thread Michael Rooney
I have HDMI as well and I think this is not a bug. The audio going out
is digital and so intentionally bypasses system volume. To change the
volume you have to do it at the application level, or on the volume of
the device receiving the digital audio.

Sebastien Bacher wrote:

Oh. Thanks. That makes sense. But how then can one play a music cd from
nautilus?

could you run gvfs-mount -li with the cd in the drive and
 devkit --show-info device where device is your cdrom device and copy
 the logs there?

$gvfs-mount -li

Volume(0): cdrom0
   Type: GUnixVolume

$devkit --show-info  (Wrong syntax).

SO. I tried.

$ devkit --native-path /cdrom
$ devkit --native-path /dev/sr0

But no output.

BTW. I tried nautilus again, and the cdrom shows up, but can't mount or
play it. I also tried ryhthmbox again, but no dice.

[Bug 395359] Re: Evolutoin crashes when opening a drop-down input

2009-07-05 Thread Oded Arbel
It is always reproducible for me in eclipse, though in Evolution it is
sometimes does not crash.

There are 3 drop-downs in Evolution that cause this problem - the
account selector in folder-subscriptions, the server type in the
account preferences' receiving tab and the server type in the account
preferences' sending tab. If I try to access evolution immediately after
I log in, then the drop-downs do not crash the program immediately, but
if I continue to use Evolution for a while then after a few minutes
accessing any of the mentioned drop-downs will crash the program
immediately, after which any time I run the program it will crash.

In regards to me previous comment about the width of the drop-down -
this is unlikely the problem as the account selector in the mail
composer, which is as wide as the composer menu, does not crash
evolution for me.

In Eclipse, the commit dialog's previous comment drop-down as well as
a few others cause this problem for me.

I managed to generate a core dump from evolution, which is attached. I
also did an strace but I don't think there was anything interesting
there, but let me know if you want its output.

[Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel

2009-07-05 Thread abhishek
The bug still persists for me. In fact it has worsened after upgrading
to jaunty. I usually access the internet from behind a proxy server (in
my university). Before 8.04 I could see the weather conditions of both
manually added locations and locations which were already in the list.
After hardy only locations in the list worked. Now in jaunty none works
when I'm working behind a proxy. But it works fine when I'm directly
connected to the internet and that too I have only checked for locations
in the list (forgot to check for manually added locations ;)).

So I'm changing the status beck again to Incomplete.

[Bug 395710] [NEW] Opening Places/Computer nautilus crash with Segmentation fault

2009-07-05 Thread Nicola Jelmorini
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hi,

I use Ubuntu 9.04 64bit installed on my laptop. The gnome version is
2.26.1.

This morning I have used the Place/Computer menu item and immediately
nautilus crashed. I don't use often this option, so I can't say if this problem
is present from the beginning (fresh Ubuntu installation a month ago) or not.
So I have started nautilus again from a terminal and when I click on the
Computer icon on the toolbar, immediately nautilus crash with the following
message:

[Bug 16285] Re: time-admin: User-selected time zone will not stick (for some locations)

2009-07-05 Thread era
In http://git.gnome.org./cgit/gnome-system-tools/tree/src/time/time-
tool.c the function oobs_time_config_get_timezone is used to populate
the GUI. This appears to use the functions from System Tools Backends
to actually obtain the current time zone.

Now, my understanding of the relationships and dependencies is far from
perfect, but I was able to read and roughly understand the code in
Time::TimeDate.pm -- it basically compares your /etc/localtime to the
available time zone files, and (duh) reports the first match.

But why doesn't it simply read my /etc/timezone?

jaunty$ perl -I/usr/share/system-tools-backends-2.0/scripts -MTime::TimeDate
-MUtils::File \
  -le 'print Time::TimeDate::get_timezone(/etc/localtime,
 /usr/share/zoneinfo)'
Europe/Mariehamn

jaunty$ cat /etc/timezone
Europe/Helsinki

jaunty$ ls -l /etc/localtime /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/{Helsinki,Mariehamn}
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1883 2009-07-04 22:07 /etc/localtime
-rw-r--r-- 2 root root 1883 2009-06-18 19:15 /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Helsinki
-rw-r--r-- 2 root root 1883 2009-06-18 19:15
/usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Mariehamn

jaunty$ md5sum /etc/localtime /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/{Helsinki,Mariehamn}
a2a75461ac17557cba12a846a564e467  /etc/localtime
a2a75461ac17557cba12a846a564e467  /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Helsinki
a2a75461ac17557cba12a846a564e467  /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Mariehamn

Thus, the following locations exhibit the problem:

jaunty$ grep -v '^#' /usr/share/zoneinfo/zone.tab | cut -sf3 |
 perl -I/usr/share/system-tools-backends-2.0/scripts -MTime::TimeDate
 -MUtils::File -lne '
   $a = $_;
   $tz = Time::TimeDate::get_timezone(/usr/share/zoneinfo/$_,
 /usr/share/zoneinfo);
   print $a != $tz unless ($a eq $tz)'
Antarctica/South_Pole != Antarctica/McMurdo
Europe/Helsinki != Europe/Mariehamn
Europe/Guernsey != Europe/London
America/Guadeloupe != America/St_Barthelemy
Europe/Zagreb != Europe/Sarajevo
Europe/Isle_of_Man != Europe/London
Europe/Jersey != Europe/London
Europe/Podgorica != Europe/Sarajevo
America/Marigot != America/St_Barthelemy
Europe/Skopje != Europe/Sarajevo
Europe/Belgrade != Europe/Sarajevo
Europe/Ljubljana != Europe/Sarajevo
Arctic/Longyearbyen != Europe/Oslo
Europe/Bratislava != Europe/Prague
Europe/San_Marino != Europe/Rome
America/Shiprock != America/Denver
Europe/Vatican != Europe/Rome

As predicted by this list, I was able to reproduce for Longyearbyen and
Jersey as well, and would expect the rest of the list to reprodce this
problem as well. For Longyearbyen - Olso and Jersey - London the
mapping is luckily to the proper main city in the governing territory,
so I guess it's less sensitive for them, but it's still a bug. If Rome
mapped to San Marino, or Denver to Shiprock, that would be similar to
the situation wrt Helsinki/Mariehamn. And Bratislava - Prague is
pretty grave, of course.

[Bug 42443] Re: No search text field in Nautilus after Ctrl-F on desktop

2009-07-05 Thread Martin Mai
When Controlf opens a nautilus window to search, then why do we have
gnome-search-tool (can be accessed via Places - Seach for files)? I
think since we have the gnome-search-tool the shortcut Controlf should
start it instead of a nautilus instance.

The problem is I don't know where the shortcut is defined. System -
Preferences - Keyboad-Shortcuts shows me a XF86Search and the gconf-
editor does not list something else.

[Bug 18780] Re: Browser: tree view rendering problem

2009-07-05 Thread mclaud2000
No really, this is serious, others of file managers have the right
behaviour:

* Konqueror, was KDE default before being replaced with dolphin.
* Thunar, the default file manager in xfce.

* And everyone's favourite: Windows Explorer since Windows 95 and File
Manager in Windows 3.1 and probably earlier.

(Those are the ones I've used. There are probably a lot more that have
the right behaviour)

This is not a: Well if you like that feature that much, just change
your file manager. Other file managers that are default in other
desktop environments can do this right, why the gnome default file
manager can't?

PS: Well Dolphin, the new default KDE file manager does have the wrong
behaviour of nautilus, shame on it.

Thanks Brian for your response,

I am not sure what sound card is used, I think it is on board the mother
board, and the mother board is a S - Series Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2P

[Bug 288185] Re: Evolution plain-text email includes formatting stuff - should be pure plain text

2009-07-05 Thread fig_wright
I've had this problem since I started using Ubuntu a couple of years
ago. It's annoyed me ever since. How can we get these silly formatting
boxes with dotted lines around them to just go away?

When I create a new email, I already have one of these little boxes
covering the first line. This prevents the pasting of text into the
email until I delete the formatting box.

Also, when I paste certain things into an email, they appear inside one
of these boxes, and then cant be broken up and reformatted...

Where is the No, when I said NO FORMATTING, I really, honestly,
truthfully, meant what I just damned well said option?

[Bug 362647] Re: Fails to register ekiga.net account

2009-07-05 Thread Yannick Defais
Andy,

The reason for the registration fail *in your case* is this:

Looking at the SIP protocol, the via field is like this when Ekiga try to
register:
Via: SIP/2.0/UDP
85.200.112.246:14370;branch=z9hG4bK865b099f-f766-de11-8cb8-00188b857008;rport

The IP (yours) is a public one (internet wise): 85.200.112.246

When Ekiga.net answer to it, the via field is:
Via: SIP/2.0/UDP
192.168.80.80:15476;branch=z9hG4bK865b099f-f766-de11-8cb8-00188b857008;rport=14370;received=85.200.112.246

The IP here is private: 192.168.80.80 (inside a LAN).

Ekiga.net service do not rewrite this field. Thus we think it is your
router which rewrite the address (for some reason).

The expected practical working solution is to turn off the NAT traversal
service ekiga use (STUN). To do this, using ekiga 3.2.x, you have to:

Disable network detection in ekiga should be enable: this is accessed under the
Edit → Preferences → General Settings → Network Settings menu.

Then restart Ekiga and see if it can register.

Best regards,
Yannick

P.S. : to other reporters, this solution might work for you, or not,
depending on what your issue is. The only way for us to understand your
issue is to have a -d 4 output as explained above.

[Bug 380091] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 Ekiga 3.2.0 Does not work behind double-NAT

2009-07-05 Thread Alvin
The following maybe the cause??:

Running Ekiga 3.2 (on jaunty) using ekiga -d 5 out
I see the following line:
2009/07/05 23:07:53.315  0:51.397   Housekeeper:0xbb90 SIP
PDU is likely too large (1550 bytes) for UDP datagram.

which is likely to be this known issue:
http://wiki.ekiga.org/index.php/Troubleshooting#I_hear_the_ring.2C_but_the_communication_is_not_established

and upstream bug:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=341518

and for the record - test call to echo (5...@ekiga.net) fails with user
is not available as reported above.

[Bug 395690] Re: Segmentation fault when viewing file

2009-07-05 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

 If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

 If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
 I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 395698] Re: Autologin gets disabled on upgrade

2009-07-05 Thread Wouter Stomp
in gdm.conf it looks like it is enabled:

[daemon]
AutomaticLoginEnable=true
AutomaticLogin=wouter

TimedLoginEnable=true
TimedLogin=wouter
TimedLoginDelay=10

The -custom file is pretty much empty.

In reality nothing happens and I have to login manually.

[Bug 395782] [NEW] Login window missing from administration menu

2009-07-05 Thread surlyjake
Public bug reported:

jaunty 9.04 updated to karmic 9.10 on a netbook remix install. I was using

[Bug 395698] Re: Autologin gets disabled on upgrade

2009-07-05 Thread Wouter Stomp
When I add these lines to gdm-conf-custom, it does work:

[daemon]
AutomaticLoginEnable=true
AutomaticLogin=wouter

Apparently the new gdm uses gdm.conf-custom instead of gdm.conf. However
the settings should be migrated automatically during upgrade.

[Bug 321287] Re: Seahorse will not generate a key

2009-07-05 Thread Dominik
I can confirm this problem, as mentioned in detail by Jimbo
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/seahorse/+bug/321287/comments/11)

System:
gpg (GnuPG) 1.4.9
2.6.27-14-generic #1 SMP Tue Jun 30 19:57:39 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

* The error occurs only if you click the button _Create (with the
mouse). If you press Alt+C or focus this button and press Enter, the key
will be generated as normal (with expiration date 1970-01-01).

* Only the command line message

** (seahorse:26768): CRITICAL **: egg_datetime_get_as_time_t: assertion
`EGG_IS_DATETIME (edt)' failed
** Message: could not grab keyboard

seems to be interesting, because the other ones appears even if you don't
uncheck Never Expires.

* There's no date-time-field left to the Never expires-button as seen
here: http://media.ubuntuusers.de/wiki/attachments/34/28/seahorse-new-

* Surprisingly, after appearence of the error message bigbCouldn't
generate PGP key/b/big, the sorting order first PGP-key, second
SSH, has changed in SSH, PGP (at Generate a new key-window).

**
* Another bug maybe connected with this one:
at key properties-window details: changing the expiration date at a date less
or equal the current date will result in the message:

[Bug 380091] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 Ekiga 3.2.0 Does not work behind double-NAT

2009-07-05 Thread BrainwreckedTech
Alvin:

Running ekiga -d 5 out, the output still goes to the console. If I
remember anything correctly about C programming, ekiga is directly
dumping output to the console instead of using stdout. You have to use
ekiga -d5 2 out.

Alvin  Yannick Defais:

The PDU 1500/1550 thing makes a heckuva lot of sense. The computer
running Ubuntu 8.10/Ekiga 2 did not have it's MTU touched, so it's at
the default 1500. The computer running Ubuntu 9.04/Ekiga 3 has its MTU
set at 7500 because its /home is on an NFS share over gigabit
networking. If I'm recalling this correctly (again), UDP packets don't
support fragmentation while TCP packets do.

After issuing ifconfig eth0 mtu 1500, Ubuntu 9.04/Ekiga 3 works as
expected. But should users be expected to fiddle with MTU settings just
for one program? Shouldn't Ekiga be able to pick up on the error and
say, Oh, the packets are too big? Let's try smaller, standard ones.
Or is the packet size completely out of the hands of the application?

As it stands now, my options aren't nice:

* take a 50%-66% hit in local gigabit network performance to run Ekiga all the
time
* run Ekiga with a script that'll change the MTU as needed (only dragging
performance while Ekiga is running)
* set up another computer just to run Ekiga all the time (which is a bit of a
waste)
* I don't have dual NICs, so setting one up for the local network and one for
the Internet goes right out the window

put in a digital camera compact FLASH card or memory stick containing jpegs.
Double click on the icon, to get up the file manager, highlight all images and
open with - gimp.
Once all images are open, watch the memory monitor as the memory slowly
diminishes.
Eventually even swap gets eaten up and OOM killer kicks in.
Close all the images and gimp before this occurs and the memory is not released.
Looking at top shows xorg is holding on to over 1 gig of RAM. The only way to
release this is to logout and log back into X.

If this IS the same bug reported in this thread, when will the fix be released?
It's over 6 months since the last message in this thread.
I've included an example pic from my camera. Rename it a few times and open
them all in the way described. Watch that ram just fly away.

[Bug 380091] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 Ekiga 3.2.0 Does not work behind double-NAT

2009-07-05 Thread Yannick Defais
BrainwreckedTech,

Ekiga cannot try to reduce the packet size because of the SIP protocol:
it has to deal with a codec negociation, and it respect user choice to
present all codecs available (and there is many codecs available in
Ekiga) and selected by the user. Reducing the packet will mean dropping
some codecs.

As you explained UDP packets cannot be fragmented, while TPC packets
can. The SIP standard thus ask the application to switch to TCP if the
packet size do not fit in UDP. The issue here is Ekiga do not support
this feature yet, which lead to this bad situation. It was not an issue
until Ekiga supported so many codecs as it is able to do nowadays.
Supporting TCP as well as UDP is a main priority for the project (in
fact for the OPAL lib ekiga uses).

Until this bug is fixed, the best solution is to deselect some codecs in
Ekiga until it fits the UDP packet size.

Best regards,
Yannick

[Bug 395841] [NEW] gnome-session consumes 100% CPU after switch from none to normal visual effects

2009-07-05 Thread Jeffrey Baker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

Karmic alpha x86_64 on a ThinkPad X61 Tablet.

gnome-session 2.26.1-1ubuntu1
gconf2 2.26.2-1ubuntu1
dbus 1.2.14-2ubuntu5
metacity 1:2.27.0-0ubuntu2
linux-image-2.6.31-1-generic 2.6.31-1.14

After switching from None to Normal in the Visual Effects tab of the
Appearance preferences, gnome-session goes into a tight loop adding and
removing a client, via dbus, which causes gconfd-2 to use an
extraordinary amount of CPU time.

To reproduce, set your effects to none, log out, log in, set effects to
normal, and watch in top(1) to see processes spinning.

Logging out and logging back into the session stops that behavior.

I will attach traces from strace and dbus-monitor.

[Bug 395802] Re: Unable to perform upgrade

2009-07-05 Thread Felix Crux
On further thought, I believe that this is more appropriately handled as
a support question than as a bug. I believe the cause of this is an
errant sudo in your sources.list file, which is what the grep
command from my previous comment would hopefully confirm. In that case,
we can fix this for you by helping you identify where the problem is,
and removing that line (or just the sudo part).

If I look up the size of the DVD there stand it has 5,1GB.

I also see only one folder but there are more folders.
These other folders i can find with firefox (if I click zo open a file) but not
with nautilus.
