I also have the same version of Ekiga on Ubuntu 9.10 with updated kernel Ubuntu 2.6.31-16 (generic). The sound device settings are by default and I have also VoipCheap.com account. Ekiga won't work! It registers though. I have done everything according to the several how-to in Ubuntu forums I have found although I cannot find where should I put the STUN server settings. One reference for you: 1. I have tried Fedora 12 on the same laptop (Dell Latitude E6400) and I have just entered the VoipCheap.com account settings as new account and everything worked out of the box no other settings changed I just said that Registrar is 'voipcheap.com' and user and password and all worked. The issue is I cannot stand Fedora and all I can use for many years now is Ubuntu. 2. If you register the same Voipcheap.com account on Twinkle where for service you enter just 'voipcheap.com' on the same Ubuntu 9.10 where Ekiga fails it works nicely. This is a work around and I have used Twinkle with no ptoble for VoipCheap.com so far till I ran across that Ekiga can be used too and I think Ekiga is much more simple and nice to use then QT dependant Twinkle. Everything works great (tagging, covert art, etc..) except that when I am copying a lot of files, the (database, ArtworkDB) syncing process on the iPhone is launched after a few files is copied to the iPhone and slows down the copying process. After a few minutes (depending on the size of the ArtworkDB) the process ends successfully and the copying process returns to its original speed but a few seconds later its the same thing all over again. Once again at the end of the copying process, this slow sync process is done again. Could it be possible to execute this sync process only one, at the end of the copying process and not during? Or maybe configure it to be done once in every Nth file or something? Kevin wrote above about loss of Li-Ion capacity by draining it. I took my (rather new) battery back for warrantee since capacity was so low. What I found is a problem in battery management on the laptop/software. My battery powers the unit for 25-30 minutes. I believe that failure to hibernate is due to sudden collapse of power - the machine tries but runs out of juice. When the store ran the battery on their test equipment, it came back charged and ran for over 3 hours. Something in the power management has written a value into the battery memory that isn't the correct capacity for this battery. The result is that the battery refuses to accept a charge. The symptom reported here may be generated by some other portion of power management. If anyone can tell me how to reset the battery capacity, I'd like to know. Hi,
Xubuntu Mythbuntu are also using gdm. In karmic, we used a not-so-
beautiful-not-so-robust hack to theme it, using xfce4's settings manager
(launched with desktop files) instead of gnome-settings-daemon. In
lucid, I'm considering to use gnome-settings-daemon to improve that, but
the current packaging approach is a problem.
From what I could see when testing on lucid, it seems to me that the
current theme, hardcoded in /var/lib/gdm/.gconf-defaults/%gconf.xml,
which is shipped by gdm, cannot be overridden easily (even if I force
different gconf default settings with dh_gconf in xubuntu-gdm-theme).
I looked a bit in gdm*/debian/patches, and this .gconf-defaults path has
been manually added for ubuntu. A possible (not so good) solution is to
add as well .gconf.${derivative} to the patch... Anyway, I can probably
dpkg-divert /var/lib/gdm/.gconf-defaults/%gconf.xml if needed, but this
looks a bit suboptimal (and not so robust)... These two solutions have
the same drawback, in that installing gdm then xubuntu-gdm-theme then
mythbuntu-gdm-theme will make the theme change without user
intervention.
Any better idea?

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. However, it seems that the option to hibernate is still supported, even though hibernate is not.
