[Bug 1313522] [NEW] There is hibernate option even without an active swap partition

2014-04-27 Thread Yu Ning
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 13.10 and 14.04 the "hibernate" option will always be
displayed in the system dropdown menu, even if there is no active swap
partition. Click the hibernate option will perform the hibernate
operation but will fail during the process.

As a contrast, in Ubuntu 13.04 and earlier releases the "hibernate"
option is visible only if there is active swap partition.

[Bug 367372] Re: Gedit uses 100% of the CPU while editing files

2014-04-27 Thread Stan Williams
Gedit started using excessive CPU Only since I upgraded to Trusty, 14.04.
I am using LUBUNTU but use Gedit, and i have use it for years on Lububtu, with
no problem, but now, the CPU runs away,
but If I hit Ctrl + S or save it calms down, I am on an older Dell GX280 and
when I edit in Gedit the fan begins to go really fast, as soon as I type or
paste a character or line, but as soon as I save it, the CPU usage slows down
to at least better , right now it is using about 12% CPU , but, I can close
Gedit and it drops to 0 to 1 % CPU usage, on average.
I was using Gedit on 13.10 with NO problems until I upgraded this box to
Trusty.

I hope this is the right place to comment, if not, please delete this (admins).
I will keep searching to see if anyone else has had a similar experience since
upgrading to 14.04.

[Bug 1247668] Re: NumLock turned off on layout switch

2014-04-27 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Felipe, Csaba, Cvetan, Diego:

I made some findings upstream at
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78012. Looks it's somehow
related to the hardware incorrectly changing the keycode on its own when
numlock is switched on.

Could you please reveal what hardware you have? At this point I wouldn't
be surprised if Samsung laptops were the culprit.

Turn on NumLock, verify the behavior by pressing the numpad digits.

Change layout by executing a "setxkbmap us" or similar command. Verify
that numpad digits still work as expected.

Press and release any of the modifiers, e.g. left shift.

Press the numpad keys and figure out that they're in a broken
inconsistent state that should never occur. Numpad 5 inserts a literal 5
into applications, whereas the rest work as if NumLock had been turned
off. numlockx reports it is switched on. Press the NumLock key and it's
turned off, press again and it's turned on correctly.

Expected behavior: changing layout should of course not effect numlock's
state.

When NumLock is off, my numpad keys report keycodes 110-119 (with the
exception of '5' which still has the keycode 84). E.g. in "xev", numpad
'1' reports 115 End, instead of the expected 87 KP_End. (With NumLock
on, it is 87 KP_1, as expected.)

Speaking in terms of "xmodmap -pke" format, apparently the correct
column is looked up (depending on NumLock's status), but in the wrong
row for some reason (the row also depends on NumLock's status, though it
shouldn't).

Holding down the Fn key toggles the keycodes, i.e. with NumLock off it
becomes 87 KP_End, and with NumLock on it becomes 115 End.

The very same behavior is observable with "showkey" on the text console
(with an offset of 8 in the key codes, and NumLock can't be toggled
while showkey is running).

Apparently, this laptop works differently than most laptops, and
probably the hardware does some magic that it really shouldn't do.

The commands "numlockx on" / "numlockx off" work as expected, they
apparently somehow tell the hardware whether to alter the keycodes
consistently with X's belief. Using "xmodmap -pke"'s terminology, the
row and the column are switched together, and I haven't found a way to
get to the other two row/column combos. This suggests that theoretically
there should exist a workaround. Whenever X's belief of the NumLock
state changes, it should do whatever "numlockx off" does to lie to the
hardware so that it doesn't modify the keycodes.

This is a Samsung NP300E5Z laptop. (By the way, it doesn't have a
NumLock LED.)

[Bug 1313132] Re: Nautilus, Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit, Nautilus opens another window instead to use that window which is allready open

2014-04-27 Thread İbrahim
Step 1. Click to the nautilus icon on unity panel opens new window at home
folder.
Step 2. Choosing a mounted ntfs folder and minimize the windows. Focus to
another program eg. firefox.
Step3. When click to the nautilus icon again to maximize the window that the
ntfs folder is chosen, it opens second new home folder window.

But if there is a local folder such as Pictures or Documents at the first
window,
Nautilus does not open new Home folder like the first situation. It recalls and
maximize the first folder (as normally expected).

And if there were two or more previously opened nautilus windows (no
matter what folders active in them (ntfs part. or local/bin or etc)) it
summarizes preview icons.

Q.: There must be reason for why it opens new Home folder window when the
previous nautilus window is located at the ntfs Volume. It does not happen for
2 or more windows.
And also for this stiuation, right click to the nautilus icon does not list the
previously opened and ntfs volume chosen window.

2014-04-27 Thread Thiago Francisco de Campos
This bug affects me too.

Important notes 1: When i'm using Nautilus whithin my Home directory,
maximize and minimize function normally, however, when I'm browsing on
another partition (NTFS - dualboot Win7 or pendrive), by clicking on the
icon opens a new instance instead of using the same.

Important note 2: I realized that when the Nautilus is not locked in the
launcher (I'm using Nemo for while), the minimize and maximize function
normally.

[Bug 1283003] Re: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates

2014-04-27 Thread RazTaz
My problem was resolved by applying the sollution listed here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/1199059/comments/13
:

"The real issue was that module-bluetooth-discover was not loading (and
still does not automatically)

Test by:
pactl list | grep -i module-bluetooth-discover

If empty load via
 pactl load-module module-bluetooth-discover

Pulse audio will then (hopefully) recognize the device"

I would like to thank Sebastian F (sf-lp) for pointing me in the right
direction, as it seems the bugs were related (at least in my case).

[Bug 1247221] Re: Nautilus doesn't remember setting for showing hidden files correctly when org.gtk.Settings.FileChooser show-hidden is true

2014-04-27 Thread Eric Ongerth
John Doe, if you have not done so already, uncheck "Show hidden and
backup files" in nautilus' Edit > Preferences > Views. At least that
will change your default so you won't be reverting to showing hidden
every time you open a nautilus window. It won't remember your use of
View > Show Hidden Files (or Ctrl+H) from one use to another, but at
least your default will be what you want.

[Bug 1261060] Re: sometime empathy chat dialogs open empty/with a negative unread count

2014-04-27 Thread Miguel Rubio-Roy
The bug has been solved for 3.8.6-0ubuntu10

Does the following link mean that the patched version will only be deployed

If so, I'd like to insist that this is an important bug that severely
hinters empathy usability and need to be corrected ASAP.

[Bug 1313419] [NEW] The Totem thumbnailer crashes with some video files

2014-04-27 Thread Nicola Jelmorini
Public bug reported:

When I open a folder with some video files, the Totem thumbnailer crashes and
only a part of the thumbnails are created.
The strange thing is that the video files are all of the same type.
For example I have a folder with 10 video files of this type:

- container: Matroska (mkv)
- video encoder: H.264
- audio encoder: AC-3 (ATSC A/52)

and the totem thumbnailer creates only 4 thumbnails, and for the other files
there is the default icon.
Previously I had Ubuntu 12.04 installed, and the Totem thumbnailer worked very
well with these same video files and all the others.

attached to this bug report is the crash log created by Totem.

[Bug 1313415] [NEW] Dragging .desktop files on the Desktop attempts to copy, not reposition

2014-04-27 Thread Vancouverite
Public bug reported:

When I drag certain files on the desktop the system attempts to copy the
file rather than reposition it. The error is generic: "Error while
copying “/”."

It seems that the offending files are .desktop files. I upgraded today
from 13.04, which did not suffer from this bug.

If I try to move a .desktop file on the Desktop it defaults to copy (as
if I'm holding down the ctrl key while dragging). I made screen capture
video located at http://youtu.be/SDZX18jFTDA. Other files can be
repositioned without a problem.

Re: [Bug 1177706] Re: empathy does not work

2014-04-27 Thread Gabor Toth
Hi Walter,

Thanks for your mail. Understand that you have to prioritize.

Frankly I have totally forgot about this particular bug. As far as I can
tell it was handled in the next versions and in the next versions of
Ubuntu. Not using that much Thunderbird these days, as I am using multiple
devices including Tablets and Phones and it seemed easier to use webmail on
the laptop with those, no need to have local hard drive space and so on.

I think we can safely assume that the bug is fixed.

[Bug 1246272] Re: Keyboard layout changing randomly

2014-04-27 Thread Hendrik Knackstedt
The workaround from #21 does not work. It just happend again.

Sometimes the wrong layout is already set right after boot and you have
to change it before you are able to login or sometimes it happens when
switching to another window.

I have two Acer laptops, both have been upgraded from 13.10 to 14.04 and
both have this problem. One of them already had the problem in 13.10,
not in 12.04 though.

[Bug 1313361] [NEW] system information displays wrong Ubuntu version (13.10 instead of 14.04)

2014-04-27 Thread Simon Wenner
Public bug reported:

I updated Ubuntu 12.04 to version 14.04 using "sudo update-manager -d".
No errors occurred but the gnome-settings information dialogue tells me
that I am running Ubuntu 13.10. This is very confusing for the average
user. I'm running the Gnome Desktop.

Today, I didn't lock the screen and put the computer into sleep mode
when I went to bed. So some 10 minutes after the last action, the screen
would lock as usual, presenting the blueish unlock prompt (simple
locker).

This time, however, when I returned, a gray lock screen with Debian logo
was presented. I was able to unlock it, and after a fraction of a
second, the screen was locked again. This can be repeated for arbitrary
amounts of logins, it will never unlock completely. Ctrl+Alt+L for
manual locking was also not possible. One can see the desktop running
behind normally for this short amount of time, but of course take no
actions. From a different user and graphical session, I tried disabling
the lock at all, but this doesn't seem to work for gnome-screensaver at
all. Or maybe not for the current session, but that's not helpful for
this acute problem as well.

I was able to find and kill a suspicious gnome-screensaver from a shell
session, after that the main session is completely unlocked. Manually
locking now brings the old simple locker back up. Everything seems fine.

Questions:
1) Where the heck did gnome-screensaver on a KDE system come from? I never
configured that. And after killing it once, it's gone.
2) Even if it got installed and configured by one of the latest updates (I
don't see that from the packages shown above), gnome-screensaver has a re-lock
loop on KDE. Major bug?

This happened to me in Ubuntu 14.04. Clicking the disk icon for the

mounted. I had to switch back to the other session and manually unmount

[Bug 1312362] Re: Can't copy a file from SMB share to the local file system: Software caused connection abort

2014-04-27 Thread Ubuntu 14.04 x64
I also have been experiencing this issue.

I have Ubuntu 14.04 installed on a Laptop a Desktop and also in
VirtualBox and they all are having the same problem.

I can copy files to an iomega NAS connected to a Linksys Router but I
can not copy files from it.

Regardless of what type or size of file that I try and copy from the NAS
it fails with the “Software caused connection abort” error.

This problem was not present in Ubuntu 12.04, 12.10, 13.04 and 13.10.

This error is also not present in Windows 7 or Windows Vista.

[Bug 1246272] Re: Keyboard layout changing randomly

2014-04-27 Thread Hendrik Knackstedt
Some observations on Trusty:
The indicator always shows the correct layout even if the actual layout is not
the same.
In /etc/default/keyboard the setting is correct. The X-Server log says it set
the correct layout (de in my case).

Possible workaround:
Run "sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration" in a Terminal. This worked
for one reboot at least. I will report back if the problem reoccurs.
