[Bug 367372] Re: Gedit uses 100% of the CPU while editing files
Gedit started using excessive CPU Only since I upgraded to Trusty, 14.04. I am using LUBUNTU but use Gedit, and i have use it for years on Lububtu, with no problem, but now, the CPU runs away, but If I hit Ctrl + S or save it calms down, I am on an older Dell GX280 and when I edit in Gedit the fan begins to go really fast, as soon as I type or paste a character or line, but as soon as I save it, the CPU usage slows down to at least better , right now it is using about 12% CPU , but, I can close Gedit and it drops to 0 to 1 % CPU usage, on average. I was using Gedit on 13.10 with NO problems until I upgraded this box to Trusty. I hope this is the right place to comment, if not, please delete this (admins). Felipe, Csaba, Cvetan, Diego: I made some findings upstream at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78012. Verify that numpad digits still work as expected. Press and release any of the modifiers, e.g. left shift. Press the numpad keys and figure out that they're in a broken inconsistent state that should never occur. Numpad 5 inserts a literal 5 into applications, whereas the rest work as if NumLock had been turned off. numlockx reports it is switched on. Press the NumLock key and it's turned off, press again and it's turned on correctly. Expected behavior: changing layout should of course not effect numlock's state. E.g. in "xev", numpad '1' reports 115 End, instead of the expected 87 KP_End. (With NumLock on, it is 87 KP_1, as expected.) Speaking in terms of "xmodmap -pke" format, apparently the correct column is looked up (depending on NumLock's status), but in the wrong row for some reason (the row also depends on NumLock's status, though it shouldn't). Holding down the Fn key toggles the keycodes, i.e. with NumLock off it becomes 87 KP_End, and with NumLock on it becomes 115 End. The very same behavior is observable with "showkey" on the text console (with an offset of 8 in the key codes, and NumLock can't be toggled while showkey is running). Apparently, this laptop works differently than most laptops, and probably the hardware does some magic that it really shouldn't do. The commands "numlockx on" / "numlockx off" work as expected, they apparently somehow tell the hardware whether to alter the keycodes consistently with X's belief. Using "xmodmap -pke"'s terminology, the row and the column are switched together, and I haven't found a way to get to the other two row/column combos. This suggests that theoretically there should exist a workaround. Whenever X's belief of the NumLock state changes, it should do whatever "numlockx off" does to lie to the hardware so that it doesn't modify the keycodes. This is a Samsung NP300E5Z laptop. (By the way, it doesn't have a NumLock LED.) [Bug 1313132] Re: Nautilus, Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit, Nautilus opens another window instead to use that window which is allready open
Step 1. Click to the nautilus icon on unity panel opens new window at home folder. Step 2. Choosing a mounted ntfs folder and minimize the windows. Focus to another program eg. firefox. Step3. When click to the nautilus icon again to maximize the window that the ntfs folder is chosen, it opens second new home folder window. But if there is a local folder such as Pictures or Documents at the first window, Nautilus does not open new Home folder like the first situation. It recalls and maximize the first folder (as normally expected). And if there were two or more previously opened nautilus windows (no matter what folders active in them (ntfs part. or local/bin or etc)) it summarizes preview icons. Q.: There must be reason for why it opens new Home folder window when the previous nautilus window is located at the ntfs Volume. It does not happen for 2 or more windows. [Bug 1313419] [NEW] The Totem thumbnailer crashes with some video files

Hi Walter, Thanks for your mail. Understand that you have to prioritize. Frankly I have totally forgot about this particular bug. As far as I can tell it was handled in the next versions and in the next versions of Ubuntu. Not using that much Thunderbird these days, as I am using multiple devices including Tablets and Phones and it seemed easier to use webmail on the laptop with those, no need to have local hard drive space and so on. I think we can safely assume that the bug is fixed. [Bug 1313318] [NEW] Instant Re-Lock of never configured gnome-screensaver in KDE

So some 10 minutes after the last action, the screen would lock as usual, presenting the blueish unlock prompt (simple locker). This time, however, when I returned, a gray lock screen with Debian logo was presented. I was able to unlock it, and after a fraction of a second, the screen was locked again. This can be repeated for arbitrary amounts of logins, it will never unlock completely. Ctrl+Alt+L for manual locking was also not possible. One can see the desktop running behind normally for this short amount of time, but of course take no actions. From a different user and graphical session, I tried disabling the lock at all, but this doesn't seem to work for gnome-screensaver at all. Or maybe not for the current session, but that's not helpful for this acute problem as well. I was able to find and kill a suspicious gnome-screensaver from a shell session, after that the main session is completely unlocked. Manually locking now brings the old simple locker back up. Everything seems fine. Questions: 1) Where the heck did gnome-screensaver on a KDE system come from? I never configured that. And after killing it once, it's gone. 2) Even if it got installed and configured by one of the latest updates (I don't see that from the packages shown above), gnome-screensaver has a re-lock loop on KDE.
