[Bug 440635] [NEW] [ubuntu 9.10 beta] required icon themes missing for two included GNOME themes

2009-10-02 Thread Christer Edwards
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I installed the Ubuntu 9.10 beta release using the desktop iso. Post
installation I went to change my theme and found that icon sets for two
of the included themes are missing.

New Wave, Dust and Dust Sand are missing required icon themes. This
results in an inconsistent theme when selected, as well as a reported
error in the Appearance Preferences application.

If these additional themes are going to be included they should be
included in entirety.

[Bug 440625] [NEW] [ubuntu 9.10 beta] keyboard layout (dvorak) does not apply post-installation

2009-10-02 Thread Christer Edwards
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I installed Ubuntu 9.10 beta using the ubuntu-9.10-beta-desktop-i386.iso
image (md5sum verified). During the installation I was asked for my
keyboard layout, which I selected as USA - Dvorak. This layout applied
and worked properly during the installation, but was not applied post-
installation.

I have tried changing the layout in System > Preferences > Keyboard by
adding Dvorak and setting it as the default. I also tried the "Apply
System-Wide..." button. While this seems to have changed the layout for
my user account this does not affect the GDM layout. I must still login
using qwerty.

[Bug 244937] Re: [intrepid alpha1] sound regression / no media playback on MacBook (second gen)

2008-07-09 Thread Christer Edwards
I would guess this should be assigned to 'gnome-sound-properties', as
changing settings there seems to have fixed the issue. As per Niels
comment above, changing the mixer settings to "ALSA" caused the sound to
work properly again.

[Bug 223735] [NEW] action on one display causes "noise" on the other display

2008-04-28 Thread Christer Edwards
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I don't know if this is directly against gnome-display-properties or
perhaps its an xrandr bug, but I get "noise" on one display when using
applications on the other.

Example:
if I launch gnome-do on the lower display the shadow displays (and does not
remove) on the upper display.

if I have a full screen terminal open in both upper and lower, I get a
"noisy" line in the upper display.

These issues did not exist on Ubuntu 7.10.

[Bug 210561] Re: Time zone changes on every boot

2008-04-08 Thread Christer Edwards
I have a similar issue, but I've changed my time with time-admin via the
system menu.

I travel quite a bit and I change my system time zone when I arrive in a
new location. The time updates promptly when I change it, but after a
reboot (ie; shutting down the laptop between the office and hotel) it
reverts to my original time zone.

[Bug 178402] Re: [hardy] missing language error

2008-02-22 Thread Christer Edwards
This workaround/fix that was mentioned here
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/178402/comments/28)
seems to have solved the issue for the time being for me.

Upgrading my EeePC resulted in this problem, which was fixed by updating:
LANGUAGE="en_US.UTF-8:en" in the /etc/default/locale file.
This file has both LANG and LANGUAGE values assigned in the file.

I did *not* have this problem on my MacBook, which only has:
LANG="en_US.UTF-8" in the /etc/default/locale file.

Both of these machines are running with the latest available updates as
of Fri Feb 22, 2008.

[Bug 127798] Re: file roller can't recognize second of duplicate files

2008-02-22 Thread Christer Edwards
Still seems to be an issue on Hardy.

Navigating to a .bz2 file in Firefox I am prompted to open it with
Archive Manager, which works properly the first time.

Closing that window and re-addressing the link again prompts for opening
with Archive Manager but then displays a .1.

.1 is properly recognized as an archive, but there are now two
files in /tmp. The original and a -1.

Seems to still be the same behaviour in hardy as the original bug.

[Bug 175157] [8.04 alpha1] epiphany-browser unable to display help content

2007-12-09 Thread Christer Edwards
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

Below is a screenshot of the result of pressing F1 or selecting "Help >

This looks related to a previously fixed bug, so this may be a

[Bug 160793] Re: [7.10] nautilus-cd-burner error output non-specific / helpful in regards to exceeding space

2007-11-07 Thread Christer Edwards
More details on the current error output.

Write to Disc: Data Size: 4.4GB (click Write)

"Reload a rewriteable or Blank Disc. Please replace the disc in the
drive with a supported disc with at least 4.4 GiB free. The following
disc types are supported: DVD+R DL"

Again, reducing the data size to 4G causes the burn to be successful,
despite the error reporting 4.4G would be sufficient.

[Bug 160793] [7.10] nautilus-cd-burner error output non-specific / helpful in regards to exceeding space

2007-11-07 Thread Christer Edwards
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-cd-burner

We attempted to burn a DVD with 4.4G of data on a displayed 4.7G
writable DVD using the CD/DVD Creator tool. The burning would not be
successful and reported a general error, the only someone helpful output
being "Compatible media types are: DVD+R". The disc and drive are both
compatible with that type.

Only after installing gnomebaker did an error report show that disc
space would be exceeded on that disk and the burn would not be possible.
Removing the .4G from the attempted burn then worked successfully in the
CD/DVD Creator tool.

Bug should be along the lines of more clear error output or improved
recognition of disc usage.

[Bug 139664] Re: [tribe 5] "mute" hardware key on macbook shows muted visual but does not mute audio

2007-11-05 Thread Christer Edwards
Update : if the 'device and track to control' in the applet preferences
is set to PCM the mute button works as expected. If the device is still
set to Master the muting does not work. I suppose this bug could either
be changed to "wrong device selected for control on macbook", or it
could try to set the PCM as the correct device instead..

In any event, the muting whether with hardware keys or the mixer only
work as expected if PCM is the device selected to control.

[Bug 129599] [gutsy tribe 3] Evolution preferences window too tall on 1280x800 resolution

2007-07-31 Thread Christer Edwards
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When creating and editing accounts in Evolution (gutsy tribe 3) the
preferences window is too tall for a 1280x800 resolution, even when it
doesn't need to be. Attached is a screenshot of a window that does not
require the height, yet it's being used anyway.

I am familiar with the keyboard shortcut of alt-click to move a window
from a place other than the top-bar, but I'm sure many users do not and
it is inconvenient.

I have seen this issue in Feisty and previous releases. Here are steps
that should re-create the issue:

navigate to any web site offering a tar.gz or similar archive.
select "open with..." and open with file-roller
navigate through the file archive (optional)
close the window
select the file from the web again
select "open with..." and open with file-roller
archive is not able to open

reason I've found:
when a file is taken and opened vs saving to disk it is put into
/tmp/file.tar.gz. If the same file is selected from the web and opened using
the same method the file is called /tmp/file.tar.gz.1.

can file roller check for the existence of the same file in /tmp when
using the open with option? Would that be a feature/option to integrate
at the browser level or file-roller level? In any event, the best way
around that I've found is to delete both of the archives from /tmp and
try again, or manually open the original archive from /tmp.

[Bug 49523] Re: keyboard shortcuts

2007-06-22 Thread Christer Edwards
This issue still happens to me. I'm running the latest Feisty (updated
to all repositories as of 2007-Jun-22).

gnome-terminal version 2.18.0
No other applications are running other than defaults.

Tried restarting gnome (ctrl-alt-bkspace) after making the change. Also
tried a shutdown and restart. No difference.

Verified that the values in gconf-editor are unchecked in the locations below:
/apps/gnome-terminal/global/use_menu_accelerators
/apps/gnome-terminal/global/use_mnemonics

What other information might be needed to verify this?

** Changed in: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Confirmed

2007-06-06 Thread Christer Edwards
** Summary changed:

- Intel iMac microphone does not work
+ update: sound recorder does not playback audio until saved

** Description changed:

- Feisty.

+ I tried the "sound recorder" program. Let me know what other information I

+ UPDATE:
+ the sound recorder program does not playback audio in real time. From what
I've found the input needs to be saved and then played back to see if audio
input has happened. This has led to a lot of these issues with microphone bug
reports. To better test whether audio input is being recognized you could use
a command such as:
+
+ "arecord -vv /dev/null"
+
+ Description updated to better reflect the nature of the bug. More of a
+ sound recorder problem vs a microphone problem with apple hardware.
