Not really long ago, but it is not a serious problem any more.

By chance, I had this error just yesterday, after months of not seeing

[Bug 153882] Re: Evince should not always remember all printing options

2009-05-06 Thread Francesco Potortì
The bug is still there in Ubuntu 9.10, with Evince 2.24.1. From a
user's point of view this is a regression.

After Evince is closed and reopened, some printing options are remembered when
they should not. Specifically, these are remembered:
- print whole document / current page
- number of pages per side

The symptoms are the same as the bugs previously reported.

And no, this is not a wishlist, but a serious user interface bug. You
don't want to reexamine all printing options every time you print a page
from Evince.

[Bug 348876] [NEW] zenity cannot any longer display long messages

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: zenity

To reproduce:

echo "message: a c ddd e ff

The message is truncated in Jaunty.
Previously, Zenity was able to display a longer message, maybe because it used

[Bug 333029] [NEW] Gthumb should not default to actual image size in viewer

2009-02-22 Thread Francesco Potortì
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gthumb

After upgrading to Ubuntu 8.10, Gthumb defaults to viewing images at
actual size.

This is a very bad choice, as it confuses new as well as old users. One
should look at images in their actual size only in special
circumstances, like when editing an image, or looking at a very small
ones, like icons. Normally, viewing an image should be done by fitting
it to the window. Before realising this, I had a whole session of
looking at my photos and asking myself why ever I had made almost all of
them wrong: it was because I was just looking at their central part, as
they did not fit in the screen at their actual size, as it is
commonplace with modern cameras.

Please choose anything else as a default, preferably "Fit to window if
larger" or, as a second choice "Keep previous zoom".

[Bug 318694] [NEW] gthumb is called with --import-photos on any directory

2009-01-19 Thread Francesco Potortì
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I am not sure who is the culprit here, I wrote nautilus as a guess.

I have a directory full of images on my desktop. I right click on it,
because I use to open it with Gthumb. However, after upgrading to Ubuntu
8.10, Nautilus does not seem to remember this. So I choose "Open with
other application" and select Gthumb. Unfortunately, this does not work
as expected, because for some reason Gthumb is called with the --import-
photos option, so instead of opening the directory it tries to import
photos from a camera.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Before upgrading to Ubuntu 8.10 I used to have an icon on my desktop
which linked to ssh://u...@my.host.name/mydir.

Now, I have two problems (I do not know if they are interconnected):

1) to get to the same dir, the URL is now
 rather than the above
2) even after changing the URL, and creating a new link on the desktop, the
link does not persist through a logout/login cycle: after a logout/login, the
icon on the desktop changes its shape to a diamond and double-clicking on it
generates an error which invites to dispose of the icon in the desktop.

[Bug 26633] Re: Cannot move cross-filesystem symlinks to Trash

2008-05-10 Thread Francesco Potortì
Gabriel, what you describe is a issue different from what originally
reported. This bug refers to a link to a *file* in a different file
system (where both file systems are *local*).

On the other hand, you speak about links to a *virtual file system*.

While I agree with you that the interface should allow unmounting a
virtual file system by just dragging its icon to the trash, as it has
always worked on Macs, this issue is completely different. Moreover it
is not even a bug (in the sense that the behaviour is consistent with
the documentation), but rather a wishlist. I suggest that you open a new
bug report, after checking that a similar one does not exist already.

close the connection
- from Places / Connect to server, create an ssh connection to localhost

When you scan a folder, baobab cannot descend folders for which it does not
have permissions.
However, it is important that baobab signals this event to the user, which it
does not.
Moreover, when a scan includes mount points, baobab can estimate how much space

[Bug 109579] gthumb: does not show thumbnails on symlinked directories

2007-07-06 Thread Francesco Potortì
Package: gthumb
Version: 3:2.10.2-4
Severity: normal

At last I tried to reproduce it easily! This is a bug I had signaled on
as a cross-fs linking bug. Now
I just discovered that it can be reproduced on a single ext2 file
system, just by using a complex symlink setup.

Given certain simlinked directory configurations, ghtumb 2.10 does not
display thumbnails. The discussion on launchpad suggests that this is
in fact a problem with the gnome-vfs library or its use in gthumb.

Here are steps to reproduce the problem. The problem comes up only on
the last command, together with libgnomevfs errors.

$ mkdir -p /tmp/pot
$ mkdir -p /tmp/www/pot.it/pot/acquari/stagnetto
$ ln -s /tmp/www /tmp/pot/.
$ ln -s /tmp/pot/www/pot.it/pot/acquari /tmp/pot/.
$ cd /tmp/pot/acquari/stagnetto/

Sorry, I would be able, given enough time, but I have not the time :-(

I already spent my share of time to report this bug in detail, and I
cannot spend any more in the next days, I fear. I should be able to
spare the time to try things or follow detailed instructions, however.
So, if you can build an instrumented gthumb for me to try, I can try it.

Better yet, if you can instrument the source as an example and give me a
tarball with instructions how to build and install it, I may be able to
find the time locate the problem.

[Bug 109579] Re: thumbnail problems with relative soft-links

2007-06-07 Thread Francesco Potortì
When gthumb 2.10.2 (errors, no thumbnails) is installed I have:
$ fgrep Exec `locate gthumb.desktop`
/usr/share/app-install/desktop/gthumb.desktop:Exec=gthumb %U
/usr/share/applications/gthumb.desktop:Exec=gthumb %U

When 2.7.9 (no errors, thumbnails ok) is installed I have:
$ fgrep Exec `locate gthumb.desktop`
/usr/share/app-install/desktop/gthumb.desktop:Exec=gthumb %U
/usr/share/applications/gthumb.desktop:Exec=gthumb %F

So I tried to install 2.10.2 and modified /usr/share/applications/gthumb.desktop
by changing %U to %F, but nothing changed.

Apparently yes, thank you. If it is, then some things are to be noted:
- this is a regression from the 2.7.9 version of gthumb
- this is apparently not a problem with libraries, but with gthumb
itself, as downgrading to 2.7.9 solves the problem
- relative links are not necessary to reproduce the problem, as the link
  on my desktop is absolute.

[Bug 119017] it's the directory, stupid!

2007-06-07 Thread Francesco Potortì
On the desktop I have a symbolic link "Immagini" to a directory residing on a
win32 file system.
If I run "cd Desktop; gthumb Immagini" I get the above errors and no thumbnails.
If I run "cd Desktop/Immagini; gthumb ." I get thumbnails and no errors.

[Bug 119017] More tests

2007-06-07 Thread Francesco Potortì
If I run "gthumb dir" from the gnome terminal the thumbnails are displayed and
no errors are given.
The problem happens when running gthumb on a directory using Nautilus: in this
case 2.10.2 does not display
thumbnails, while 2.7.9 does.
To diagnose this, I called gthumb on a directory from the context menu of
Nautilus, using a custom command:
  env LANG=C gnome-terminal -x gthumb
to observe the message errors. And in fact in this case I see no thumbnails and
I see the following trace in the terminal.
The warnings, in Italian, mean "unsupported operation".

[Bug 119017] confirming a regression

2007-06-07 Thread Francesco Potortì
I completely purged 2.10.2 and moved away all gthumb directories from
~/.gnome2 and ~/.gconf/apps, then reinstalled gthumb,
but nothing changed.

I restored the gthumb directories in ~/.gnome2 and ~/.gconf/apps and
downgraded to 2.7.9 and the thumbnails reappeared.

So apparently this is a bug in the gthumb package, and not in a related
library, and 2.10.2 is a regression from 2.7.9.

[Bug 119017] gthumb does not display thumbnails

2007-06-06 Thread Francesco Potortì
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gthumb

This is Gthumb 2.10.2.

I downloaded images from a memory card with Gthumb, and I could see thumbnails,
as usual.
Then I unmounted the card, put in a different one and downloaded images from
the second one.
After downloading the photos, Gthumb would not display thumbnails any more. Not
only in the directory
where I downloaded the new images, but in old image directories too.

[Bug 116158] nautilus wants to execute .abw but not .doc files

2007-05-22 Thread Francesco Potortì
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

On a VFAT file system, where permissions are set to rwxrwx---, if I open
a .doc file from Nautilus, ooffice is called and the file is opened. The
same does *not* happen with .abw files, for which I get the popup asking
me if I want to display or execute the file.

This bug is related to several other bugs (14335, 42939, 7812), but
apparently it has been solved for .doc files, yet not for .abw files.

[Bug 107276] cannot print even pages in a range

2007-04-24 Thread Francesco Potortì
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 67164 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/67164

The bug that I had reported about printing even pages in a range does
not exist in Feisty 7.04: please close Bug 107276.

Specifically, I can now do the following:
- I open a big pdf file using Evince
- I select a range of pages 1-4
- I select only even pages to print
and I get the expected result, that is, only pages 2 and 4 are printed.

In Ubuntu 6, pages 1, 2, 3 and 4 were printed, that is, the "even pages"
selection was ignored.

Bug 107276 is similar to (but not the same as) Bug 67164, so maybe the
latter is corrected too.

Yes, I read them and I did not find one specifying the same defect I
observe.

I filled all the fields that were requested on the web page. If this is
a necessary information that you miss, probably you should ask for it,
or arrange so that the web page asks for it.

Anyway, I use the latest stable Ubuntu 6.10, regularly updated.

I think you should not mark a bug as a duplicate because there "might be
another one". If you need help for identifying possible duplicates, you
should ask for it, specifying exactly what you need.

[Bug 107276] cannot print even pages in a range

2007-04-17 Thread Francesco Potortì
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

This bug is related to gnome-print, I suppose.
If I open a file with evince and I want to print even pages in a range I choose
1-4 in the range box
and "even pages" in the "Page setup" tab: I expect pages 2 and 4 to be printed.
However, all pages
in the range are printed, i.e., the "even pages" specification is ignored.

The offset function apparently does not work when it should return a
