[Bug 885146] Re: Archive Manager fails to handle password-protected ZIP files
I encountered this bug on Ubuntu 15.10. It can be solved by installing the package p7zip-full. It occurred when I tried to extract a password- protected file which I created on another computer with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. The messages from command-line 'unzip' are: skipping: (file name) need PK compat. v5.1 (can do v4.6) skipping: (file name) need PK compat. v5.1 (can do v4.6) skipping: (file name) need PK compat. v5.1 (can do v4.6) etc. The main problem here is that the error message returned by Archive Manager is not helpful at all. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to file-roller in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/885146 Title: Archive Manager fails to handle password-protected ZIP files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file-roller/+bug/885146/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1353718] [NEW] No reliable way to configure MAC address spoofing
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS there is no way to configure MAC address spoofing, at least when using the r8168 driver. Here are the symptoms that I observe: 1. When trying to use the Network Manager applet to assign a static IP and a cloned MAC address, the connection fails and there is no network connectivity. It doesn't matter whether I fill both the Device MAC Address and the Cloned MAC Address fields, or only the Cloned MAC Address, the result is the same. 2. When using /etc/network/interfaces with the hwaddress ether aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff stanza, the connection is not brought up correctly after reboot or after the cable is unplugged and plugged back in. It only works when I manually type in sudo ifup eth0, which is unacceptable on a server. As far as I can tell, this might be caused by udev 'losing track' of the device due to the changed MAC address and not running ifup / ifdown scripts in response to kernel events, so I'm submitting this as a bug in systemd. 3. When MAC address spoofing is not used, both of these ways work correctly and network connectivity is correctly re-established after reboot and cable unplug. [Bug 1333599] [NEW] Nautilus doesn't show templates and scripts in the file menu
Public bug reported: The right-click context menu allows one to create new documents - either an empty file, or one of the files in the Templates XDG folder. However, the templates are missing from the File menu - only an empty file is available from there. This makes it unnecessarily difficult to create a file from template in the list view. The same issue is present with Nautilus scripts: they are present in the right-click menu, but the File menu only has the option to open the scripts directory. Therefore this might be an issue with indicator- appmenu rather than Nautilus. [Bug 407621] Re: (design decision) Icons missing from context menu , dialogue buttons , firefox bookmark favicons, system menu
So, Gnome is now shifting to a model where dynamic objects -- applications, bookmarks, documents, folders, user accounts, wireless networks, and so on -- have icons by default, while all other items do not. What? This is completely backwards. Dynamic objects should not have items, while actions and dialogs should. When you have dynamic objects in a menu, 90% of the time all will have the same icon. This is the case for example with Recent Documents menu, disks, folders, wireless networks, and bookmarks pointing to the same site. The usefulness of icons in such cases is minimal, because most of the time you have to read the text. Moreover, clicking on any of the icons usually represents the same action (e.g. opening a recent document). On the other hand, each action or operation in an app (like any of the path boolean operations in Inkscape) is very different. By giving them icons, the user can associate an image with a specific action being performed on the document. This gives a large and very noticeable speed boost. At the minimum, the Interface tab should be brought back. Forcing users to drop their productivity in e.g. Inkscape and GIMP by several percent in the name of some rather abstract UI consistency and not giving them an option to revert to pre-Lucid behavior is unacceptable. BTW, I also do not see what is the problem with gaps created by iconless menu items. The gaps will be present even if no menu item has an icon, because some of them have checkboxes and radio buttons. Taking away icons doesn't solve anything in this regard. -- (design decision) Icons missing from context menu , dialogue buttons , firefox bookmark favicons, system menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/407621 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 508082] Re: return back interface tab in gnome-appearance-properties
So now we have to search for a separate tweak UI tool? This is recipe for disaster, as such tools are often malware vectors. [Bug 15495] Re: Archive Manager doesn't mean anything if you don't know what an archive is
A lot of the discussion here is that some archives do not offer compression, and therefore they should not be renamed to compressed files. This is a completely irrelevant technicality. You are thinking in the UNIX way, not in the simple user way. The simple user doesn't recognize the difference between compression and archiving, because he has no use for archiving. Why would anyone want to clump files together if it offers no savings in disk space? Also consider that power users know that to compress means to reduce the size of data, but for an unsophisticated user it might as well refer to compressing the number of files! Bundling, packing or packaging are wrong. Bundling refers to something you get as a gratis with e.g. a video card or a magazine. Packaging is when you wrap or put the files in something. Zipping is only recognizable to WinZip users and shouldn't be used. Another point: it is clear that Compress... won't destroy anything, because it has an ellipsis. This means that the user will be offered further choices. Moreover it is a given that if anything is about to destroy user data, a warning is displayed, so considering the possibility that users might be afraid to click on this is a distraction. The correct solution is Compressed File Manager or Compressed File Browser and Compress... -- Archive Manager doesn't mean anything if you don't know what an archive is https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/15495 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
