For me the login screen hangs as the Ubuntu logo at the bottom of the

[Bug 708680] [NEW] VNC TLS handshake hangs if client certificates are missing

2011-01-27 Thread Neil Wilson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vinagre

When connecting to a VNC server using the VeNCrypt with TLS and x509
certificates (such as a kvm VM with vnc_tls switched on), Lucid's
vinagre hangs with a blank screen if there are no client side
credentials.

Using the --gtk-vnc-debug trace gives:

gtk-vnc: Using version: 3.8

You get extra diagnostics on Maverick vinagre 'Failed to find certificate

I suspect the duplicated Connection header in the Lucid GET request is
causing Firefly to die.

Yes Firefly should be more robust, but this is on a Netgear NAS and
users will expect the Netgear to be right and Ubuntu to be wrong.

I suspect that we have a lump of related but separate bugs here. I'd
appreciate direction as to how to split them out.

2009-11-01 Thread Neil Wilson
I'm not quite sure what you mean. Do you want an AVHCD file attaching?

The file manager lists all '.MTS' files as 'unknown
(application/octet-stream)' even with 'vlc' installed which can play
those files.

Movie Player can't play the files - even after plugin search -
complaining about 'The playback of this movie requires a MPEG-2
Transport Stream demuxer plugin which is not installed.'

AVHCD files are generated by modern HD camcorders. (mine is a Canon
HF100).

[Bug 425116] Re: Right click Mute checkbox doesn't work in gnome-volume-control-applet

2009-09-11 Thread Neil Wilson
I get no error when it doesn't work. The mute box stays checked and the
little red/white x stays in place. As I say this is only when the
machine first starts with the volume control in the mute position.

If I try to move the volume slider first then the slider returns to the
'zero' position and the mute checkbox then works properly.

[Bug 425116] [NEW] Right click Mute checkbox doesn't work in gnome-volume-control-applet

2009-09-06 Thread Neil Wilson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

When gnome-volume-control-applet firsts starts up, the mute checkbox on
the right click menu doesn't work if the computer has started up with
the sound device already muted. I have to either go into the Sound
Preferences dialog and use the checkbox there - or use the mute/unmute
key.

2009-09-03 Thread Neil Wilson
Can you try switching DRI off.

You can download the attached Xorg.conf file and put in in /etc/X11.
Then log off and back on again.

If the server works with DRI switched off, then that is this bug. If it
doesn't you'll need to log another one with 'ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-
video-ati' as it may be something different.

[Bug 419434] Re: X server fails: drmRadeonCmdBuffer: -22

2009-08-28 Thread Neil Wilson
Looks like this is Radeon related and affects both the radeon and radeon
HD drivers.

The key issue is

drmRadeonCmdBuffer: -22

After which the X server fails. However it loads the GDM OK and will
load the xterm default succesfully.

Switching off DRI on RADEONHD and ATI allows the full gnome session to
load properly.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Jaunty Beta.

The laptop system is receiving input from the Brightness controls on
this laptop (Fn + F10 and Fn + F11), but the power manager moves the
brightness slider up and down fairly randomly and the screen merely
flickers. This is with AC power connected and disconnected.

If I kill the power manager then the brightness controls work correctly
(although I don't get a sexy translucent graphic on screen :)

[Bug 131476] Re: esd not found

2007-08-14 Thread Neil Wilson
I don't believe this is a duplicate of the libgnome bug. The fix there
doesn't solve this problem. it still happens even with the new libgnome.

[Bug 115652] Re: libgnome slows down desktop trying to open esd

2007-08-14 Thread Neil Wilson
Still getting the same 'esd' problem with the latest libgnome2 installed
today (2.19.1-0ubuntu2) when launching 'gvim' and gedit from the command
line.

Programs constantly report

/bin/sh: /usr/bin/esd: not found

[Bug 50079] CD Burner needs file based temporary directory

2006-06-17 Thread Neil Wilson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-cd-burner

By default CD Burner uses the system temporary directory to store the
image it is creating to burn onto disc. This is normally /tmp which is a
tmpfs filesystem and has a tendency to fill up when you are burning
large DVDs. On smaller systems the swap space is unlikely to be big
enough to accommodate a DVD image.

I would suggest setting 'temp_iso_dir' to /var/tmp by default.

The current workaround is to use 'gconf-editor' and alter the variable
by hand.

NeilW
