[Bug 398811] Re: Karmic: Cant start Admin GUIs or access other internal hard drive. Security error.

2009-09-26 Thread jfgordon
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 398849 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/398849

This started happening to me immediately after I installed gparted.
After that, applications that required admin privileges came up with
additional options to remember the password, etc, but wouldn't accept my
password - can't even launch the terminal from the menu, but I can
launch things as root by Alt-F2 gksu and then launching whatever I need
like gnome-terminal...etc. I made sure that my user name was still part
of the admin group, but I wouldn't know where to begin beyond just a few
basics...

[Bug 428365] Re: Karmic Koala Alpha 5. Desktop does not start, freezes the boot screen

2009-09-20 Thread jfgordon
I thought maybe I just downloaded/burned the Alpha 6 64-bit CD
incorrectly, but I'm experiencing the same issue as hajtipajti reported
- it gets to the ubuntu logo with the bouncy/moving white line, plays
the startup sound, the screen blacks out, and repeats the process to
infinity. This happened both with the live cd and after the install.
FYI, i'm testing this on a Dell Studio 1537 and fairly similar hardware
to hajtipajti as well: (2 cores) 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM, ATI
Radeon HD 34xx series 256 MB.

[Bug 243757] Re: gdmsetup crashes

2008-06-29 Thread jfgordon
I just reinstalled hardy and am getting the exact same error. The
program worked perfectly when I installed the beta, but this was an
install from the final release, so I don't know if that has anything to
do with it. For anybody else with the bug, the workaround seems to be
hand-editing the file /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom using the commands
available from the GNOME gdm documentation at
http://www.gnome.org/projects/gdm/docs/2.20/configuration.html from
section 6.2.
