[Bug 189814] Re: [hardy]computer and touchpad is buggy when running on battery

2008-06-29 Thread Andrea Ratto
With the heat of these last days it seems to happen even more. Kernel
parameters did not solve the issue.
Yesterday I also uncovered something. I was watching a video on youtybe and had
the screensaver coming in every minute, so I touched the touchpad everytime the
screen started to go black. This mostly resulted in a few second of audio
looping and gui freeze. Interesting is that it happened with the touchpad, the
"touchpoint" and the keyboard itself. So it is not specific to touchpads or
the tiny blue "touch point", but also can be triggered by the keyboard.

Can also someone CC dell on this bug?
PS happened a total of three times during writing of this and crashed my laptop
around 3 times a week since hardy installation, so how about setting priority
to high? If it does not get solved I will have to switch distro...

[Bug 224840] Re: Brasero can't copy DVD, only burns 23 MB

2008-06-29 Thread Mario Vukelic
Yeah, still the case. In the meantime I have copied lots of DVDs that I
had before created with the VHS/DVD recorder. They are appear ok: other
DVD copy programs work fine on them, they originals and the copies work
in both PC and standalone players, etc. Justs Brasero still can't copy
them.

[Bug 38512] Re: Window close should close, not quit

2008-06-29 Thread Christian Apolloni
Alleluja! There is a plugin which does not require patches to rhythmbox
itself! My bad I didn't get it...

You can get it from there:
http://methlab42.itee.uq.edu.au/~jonathan/rhythmbox-plugins/dontreallyclose/

If you prefer I changed it a bit to get the correct animation when hiding the
window:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=113594

As a side note would be nice to have this plugin easily installable in
Ubuntu, but personally I'm already satisfied.

[Bug 243895] [NEW] Firefox 3 and gvfs-open

2008-06-29 Thread Martin Konečný
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs-bin

In Ubuntu 7.10 there was Firefox 2 web browser. By default it did not open
downloaded files in application which I associated that filetype with in
Nautilus.
To make firefox respect Nautilus associations, I added directive
"network.protocol-handler.app.file gnome-open" in about:config dialog. This
solved the problem. In Ubuntu 8.04 I have the same problem. I added directive
"network.protocol-handler.app.file gvfs-open" in about:config dialog, but this
does not solve my problem. Firefox opens downloaded file in different
application, then set in nautilus. I tried to replace gnome-open and xdg-open
by gvfs-open symlink in /usr/bin. But problem is still there. It is unplesant
for my users to set their favourite application in nautilus and see that
firefox and thunderbird ignore it. I have fully updated system.

[Bug 243855] Re: Having an item in search field and switching to week view in calendar can cause crash sometimes

2008-06-29 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 243935] [NEW] nautilus sftp doesn't honor remote group permissions correctly

2008-06-29 Thread otzenpunk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When connecting to a remote server via the ssh protocol, nautilus
doesn't recognize group write permissions on the remote server. I
noticed this when I wanted to create a new folder in a remote /var/www
directory with group write permissions for the group "webmaster" (of
which I am a member, of course).

The menu entries for creating new documents or folders were greyed out,
so I had to log in via terminal and create the folder with the mkdir
command.

Tested with hardy, nautilus version 1:2.22.3-0ubuntu2.

Maybe this is related or identical to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/229270 but I don't
know for sure.

Is there any way to resolve this?

[Bug 243942] [NEW] Nautilus doesn't update title and address bar when clicking twice on open parent folder button

2008-06-29 Thread jvitense
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hello,

I realized that when clicking twice on the "open parent folder"-button (the
up-arrow) really fast (faster than normal double-click), an inconsitency
arises: The folder displayed in the big window is the grand parent of the
folder I started the action with. This is what I expected Nautilus to do, since
I hit the appropriate button twice. But the address bar shows the path to the
parent folder, that is one level above the first folder, not two. In addition,
the title bar of nautilus displays the name of this parent folder, not the
grand parent.
Now I am not able to open this parent folder by double-clicking on it in the
big window.
This error can be reproduced from any folder that has a grand parent folder.

This bug might be somewhat similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226223
I am running Ubuntu 8.04.1.

The attached picture shows the inconsistency: Title and address bar
indicate the folder is /home/jvitense/Dokumente, but the big window
shows the contents of /home/jvitense/ Note that a double-click on the
folder "Dokumente" does not work.

[Bug 243950] [NEW] Nautilus cannot create folders via context menu if scrollbar present

2008-06-29 Thread StefanS42376868
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Whenever there is a vertical scrollbar on the right side of the nautilus file
browser, there seems to be no way to create a new folder.
Without scrollbar I can just right-click on the empty background area and and
get a context menu to create a folder (German: "Ordner anlegen"). But in case
of a vertical scrollbar, there is no empty background area!
Suggestion: Add at least one line of space behind the last line in the scroll
view!

Of course there is a workaround via the file menu, but this is not very
intuitive; I found it only after a while (since I expected it in the
edit menu).

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=471248

Although they seem abandoned, plus the bug is actually in vte, not
gnome-terminal.

I'm attaching the patch found in savannah #13146, I placed this patch as
debian/patches/99_mc_cursor.patch, rebuilt and don't have any problems
on my machine, so it must be safe. Please include for intrepid and
possibly for hardy.

[Bug 110684] [NEW] Only one popup menu/tooltip

2008-06-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Sorry, the title may be misleading.

I noticed that there is only one tooltip or menu on screen at a time, I
don't believe this should be the case.

Try this:
-Have rhythmbox playing a song.
-Open firefox
-Give firefox focus and press ALT+F to open the file menu
-Without closing the menu, move your mouse over Rhythmbox in the notification
area.

The icon should show me the currently playing song, but it doesn't until
the firefox menu is closed.

This also happens with other types of menus, in quanta plus when I'm
typing and it gives me code completion tooltips, popups from rhythmbox,
and xchat, do not work.

I should mention I'm using beryl; i did, however, disable beryl from the
rightclick menu and I am still able to reproduce.

I'm not sure if this behaviour is intensional or not..

[Bug 184243] [NEW] Tooltip in main menu hangs

2008-06-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This is on an up-to-date hardy AMD64.

Steps to reproduce:
Open System->Preferences
Hover over one of the entries until the tooltip appears
While the tooltip is apparent move the mouse onto other entries

Expected results:
Tooltip should disappear

Actual result:
The menu appears unresponsive until the tooltip has timed out.

This could be related to one of my other bug reports (#110684) as it
seems to be in the same category of only allowing one menu/tooltip at a
time.

[Bug 215484] Re: g-p-m does not honor its configuration for LCD brightness levels after multiple unplug-replug from AC

2008-06-29 Thread BandD
Paulo,

I may have found another 'bug'. I've noticed that when when the
screensaver (for me blank screen) is activated using your patched
version of gpm and deactivate the screensaver (through mouse movement or
keystroke), my screen brightness is stuck at the 'dimmed' screen
brightness and I have to manually adjust the screen brightness back to
100% with the brightness applet. After that dim on and off works fine.
It is just when resuming from the screensaver.

Also, sometimes when resuming from suspend I get the same behavior, but
not always.

[Bug 124315] [NEW] remember window position of applications

2008-06-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Open firefox or thunderbird. Move the window. Quit the application. Open the
application again. The window is back over on the left again.
The mozilla team leaves window positioning to the window manager on unix/linux
systems:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31086

The advanced settings to enable Gnome to remember window positions is not
available at the place these instructions say they were a year ago:
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-36505.html%3C/t-199815.html

A similar ubuntu bug was reported earlier, but it was about firefox only, and
it is already marked as having been fixed in Feb., however, I am seeing the
issue today using Feisty, which was released in April:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/65841

One possible workaround is using Devil's Pie:
http://www.burtonini.com/blog/computers/devilspie
which requires hand editing xml files and creating pattern matching filter
rules.

[Bug 124315] Re: remember window position of applications

2008-06-29 Thread Thomas Thurman
Metacity won't fix this because:

1) it's not a window manager issue; applications ought to be responsible
enough to create their windows where they want them;

2) it violates separation of concerns; there can be a separate process
(such as devilspie) which moves a user's windows around to their heart's
content (the difficulty of configuring devilspie itself is not a
counterargument to this);

3) it's near-impossible to do well in the window manager anyway, since
we don't have any good way in X of recognising that the new window is
somehow "the same window" as the old window. Only the application knows
that.
