[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1894415] [NEW] XORG crashes with segfault on Ubuntu 1804 during login

2020-09-05 Thread Gareth Cross
Public bug reported:

This is maybe a long shot, but I have a Dell XPS 13 2020 running Ubuntu
18.04. It was running fine for a while, but for some reason it recently
developed an issue where xorg crashes on login. I get as far as the
desktop, but then it locks up and mouse/keyboard stop responding.

I have verified this happens if I select the following login shells:
Ubuntu, Gnome Classic, xfce4. It does not happen under wayland, so I
have switched to that for now.

The segfault is as follows:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1892818] Re: clock continues to run when game is finished most of time

2020-09-05 Thread Teh Chi En
Encountered same issue on Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS. The bug happens
occasionally. The program does recognize that the puzzle has been
completed as all remaining flags are marked. But the time doesn't stop.

  Xorg crash

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Reproducible on my system. Whenever my computer "sleeps" while running
a specific program (Phenix), when I return to check on the job, the
Desktop screen does not load. Alt-F2 and other routes have not been
successful in recovery the Desktop GUI or log-in. However, if I stay
at my computer and prevent the computer from sleeping, the job
completes without GUI death. I don't know how to search the syslog,
but I expect to find something funky around something like "GUI going
  to sleep".

The reason I think it is a true "crash" is, despite being away from my
the PC for 1 hr, the job directory is empty. This makes me think the
computer processes were halted during the events that lead to the GUI
  death.

I have played with my GPU settings. As per this NVIDIA thread
  https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/random-xid-61-and-xorg-lock-
up/79731/252, I have set my minumum clock speed to 1050mHz. This had
been successful up until this point at preventing a different issue

2020-09-05 Thread gregrwm
Sorry i launched ubuntu-bug on the wrong box. And upon running it on the
proper box just now, it said '*** It seems you have modified the contents of
"/etc/apport/crashdb.conf". Would you like to add the contents of it to your
bug report?
What would you like to do? Your options are:
  Y: Yes
  N: No
  C: Cancel
Please choose (Y/N/C):'. i answered 'y'. But, no, i didn't modify that file!
But whatever, tho bizarre, hopefully that's irrelevant.

Anyway, see the attachment for the report from the proper box.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1894403] [NEW] Rows (or columns) of pixels appear in the wrong place after rotation with jpegtran

2020-09-05 Thread Riccardo Maffei
Public bug reported:

Images rotated with jpegtran have rows or columns of pixels in the wrong place.
In particular:
 - When rotating by 90 degrees some columns of pixels from the left are moved
to the right.
 - When rotating by 270 degrees some rows of pixels from the top are moved to
the bottom.
 - When rotating by 180 degrees both of the issues mentioned above affect the
output image.

Note that the words "top", "bottom", "left" and "right" always refer to
the image after the rotation.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Download a random jpeg image (e.g. the Ubuntu logo)
2. Rotate it with jpegtran (e.g. by 90 degrees)
3. The image is now rotated

Expected behavior:
4. Everything is in the right place

Actual behavior:
4. Some rows and/or columns of pixels are in the wrong place (as explained
above)

Tested package version: 2.0.3-0ubuntu1.20.04.1
System release: Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS

** Affects: libjpeg-turbo (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Title:
Establishing connection to PulseAudio. Please wait...

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Sometimes when i start up firefox in the morning i can't hear any
audio. Or sometimes a page that wants to play audio will freeze,
waiting. When these happen i'll launch pavucontrol next and it'll say
"Establishing connection to PulseAudio. Please wait..." and just keep
waiting. i look for the pulseaudio process, it's there as usual.
Even so i just launch an additional pulseaudio process, and then
pavucontrol is immediately all happy. Firefox might also immediately
become all happy, or less often i'll also need to restart firefox
  before i can play audio.

i usually shut off my computer at night. Starting it up each morning,
manifestations as described above might be separated by a couple
weeks, or might happen a couple times within a week.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1829568] Re: [GL703VD, Realtek ALC295, Black Headphone left and right ] No sound at all

2020-09-05 Thread Bogutsky Yaroslav
@bcanderson Try to add string 'options snd-hda-intel index=0 model
=headset-mode,asus-g73jw' to file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and
turn off your laptop. After power on sound should work correctly
everywhere. But, external mic disappear. :( I think sound + internal mic
is better then no sound at all.

'GTK_IS_STYLE_CONTEXT (context)' failed

Hi,

On Ubuntu 16.04 LTS I downloaded FF Nightly 82.0a1 (2020-08-28) (64-bit),
opened it from a terminal with the command ./firefox -p and I did not see the
error message. But when I closed the browser and ran the same command again,
hence restarting and updating nightly to 82.0a1 (2020-09-04) (64-bit), I saw
the attached error messages.
How should we proceed?

I appreciate your help Sebastien and Rocko... I was a rookie user of
ubuntu, now i'm a less rookie user thanks to you both (not ashamed of being
a rookie, but for reporting kind of a tautological "problem")... I
(re)installed the current 20.04.1 ubuntu version... working charmingly
again... I'm gonna stop being the crazy updater (maybe, but not sure, a
windows heritance)... thank you very much to everyone, again... for me,
this report could be closed, unless is a help for the gorilla groovy.
