[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1759644] [NEW] [18.04] Regression: wired network does not work upon resume from suspend
Public bug reported: After upgrade to 18.04 (bionic) I've encountered the following regression: wired network connection does not work, when system is resumed from suspend. Reloading the kernel driver module seems to help: sudo modprobe -r r8169 sudo modprobe r8169 Could this be fixed structurally? Test Case - 1) Boot a xenial desktop system 2) Ensure network-manager version 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 from -updates is installed 3) Upgrade to yakkety 4) Reboot 5) Observe you have no network If you install the version of network-manager from yakkety-proposed before rebooting you should have a network connection after you reboot. 1) Boot a xenial desktop system. 2) ensure network-manager version 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 from -updates is installed. 3) Install netplan, configure to set up static network on an ethernet device using netplan. 4) Upgrade to yakkety 5) Reboot 6) Observe that your system is still being managed by networkd rather than NetworkManager. Regression Potential Any failure to manage ethernet or wireless devices after upgrade, or issues with the use of netplan in conjunction with NetworkManager should be investigated as potential regressions. For example, if after upgrading, ethernet devices are no longer managed, or if devices that should be explicitly ignored by NetworkManager due to existing user configuration are now managed, these would indicate a possible regression caused by this update. Original Description nplan was installed during the upgrade process but I had no network connectivity after upgrading. Apparently, no package wanted to manage my ethernet connection. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1120584] Re: DPI settings do not influence scan result on Epson Stylus Photo PX710W
Hi Michael, Thank you for looking into this. Yes, I think it is a duplicate of Bug #891586 After reading it through, I do not get why "resolution" list is not computed correctly: on my unit it should be intersection of x/y-resolution lists, there are no other units attached, i.e. there should be no other possible resolution lists to intersect with. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to simple-scan in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1120584 Title: DPI settings do not influence scan result on Epson Stylus Photo PX710W Status in “simple-scan” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Scanner ID: Bus 001 Device 004: ID 04b8:0852 Seiko Epson Corp. "I have a good faith belief that this is a bug in Simple Scan and not in sane-backends because I actually tried with xsane and it worked there." Essence of problem: I do not see difference in files saved after change of setting between 300dpi vs. 600dpi for images or 150dpi vs 300/600dpi for text Here I make my point based on the file sizes. The following files were generated by Simple Scan in various Text/Image 300/600 dpi settings. ~/tmp/ocr_try$ ls -lh ss* -rw-rw-r-- 1 user1 user1 2,2M feb 9 19:43 ss_image_300dpi.png -rw-rw-r-- 1 user1 user1 2,2M feb 9 19:53 ss_image_600dpi.png -rw-rw-r-- 1 user1 user1 77K feb 9 19:44 ss_text_300dpi.png -rw-rw-r-- 1 user1 user1 79K feb 9 19:52 ss_text_600dpi.png For comparison, files obtained by scan with various settings in "Image Scan! for Linux" from Epson: ~/tmp/ocr_try$ ls -lh is* -rw-rw-r-- 1 user1 user1 96K feb 9 20:31 is_150dpi_text_bw.png -rw-rw-r-- 1 user1 user1 702K feb 9 20:26 is_300dpi_image_bw.png -rw-rw-r-- 1 user1 user1 2,2M feb 9 20:18 is_300dpi_image.png -rw-rw-r-- 1 user1 user1 261K feb 9 20:24 is_300dpi_text_bw.png -rw-rw-r-- 1 user1 user1 789K feb 9 20:21 is_300dpi_text.png -rw-rw-r-- 1 user1 user1 2,6M feb 9 20:25 is_600dpi_image_bw.png -rw-rw-r-- 1 user1 user1 7,9M feb 9 20:20 is_600dpi_image.png -rw-rw-r-- 1 user1 user1 851K feb 9 20:25 is_600dpi_text_bw.png -rw-rw-r-- 1 user1 user1 2,5M feb 9 20:20 is_600dpi_text.png Note that "Simple Scan" Text file size for 300/600dpi settings roughly corresponds to "Image Scan" 150dpi for B&W Document (150dpi is default for Text in "Simple Scan"), while "Simple Scan" 300/600dpi Image corresponds to "Image Scan" 300dpi Color Photo settings. Another couple of scans acquired with XSane: ~/tmp/ocr_try$ ls -lh xsane* -rw-r- 1 user1 user1 772K feb 9 21:18 xsane_300dpi_gray.png -rw-r- 1 user1 user1 2,9M feb 9 21:17 xsane_600dpi_gray.png Note that sizes of XSane generated files roughly match to "Image Scan" 300dpi B&W Image and 600dpi B&W image. I think that it is very important to have ability to make scans with 300dpi B&W settings since those are recommended settings for better OCR performance. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1120584] [NEW] DPI settings do not influence scan result on Epson Stylus Photo PX710W
Public bug reported: Scanner ID: Bus 001 Device 004: ID 04b8:0852 Seiko Epson Corp.
