Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1080674] Re: [QEMU] Corrupted desktop screen for raring desktop installation in QEMU guest (Cirrus graphics). Affects KVM but not VBox.
Go drum up some support and nag https://launchpad.net/~mlankhorst to actually fix it. He knows the fix, just will not commit time to it. Get it passed around the heat built up (that is get people to mark it as 'affects me') Regards, Phill. Don't go complaining to me.. they marked it as won't fix... all I do is tell people the workaroud it was, and still an WTF moment that they will refuse to even look at the issue --- but there you go... a couple of extra steps... choose 'extra' switch the video mode to SVGA. click on 'OK (or what ever it is) and then click on start installation (top left) Regards, Phill. Hi, there has been some degrees of lack of progress on Chromium within ubuntu. The guy tasked with it has made some massive steps forward. I've taken the liberty to email him directly about this bug. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1078226] Re: raring daily: background & lightdm look as if they are in 8bit greyscale mode
reference #8 No, it is a ubuntu Raring Vs KVM issue, not the other way round :) KVM is part of the kernel, it is also part of cloud, guestfish which is a tool for KVM also will not run under quantal (there is new stuff being applied for raring). Raring KVM cannot run 'raring' without the video issue. KVM something is very broken in raring, not the other way round. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1081518] Re: Chromium-browser package is outdated and poses a security risk
Micah, why, oh, why are people running around re-inventing the wheel? av has already stated that he would love to work with 'ubuntu' to have the updates done? Meanwhile, the people who matter ... aka Chromium users, do not have 1) Any official default updates arriving. 2) The 'official' ppa is non functional 3) The test area has only just been made aware of, via a bug report instead of an announcement. 4) There is already, and has been for some time, a fully functioning PPA. you stated that that it would be possible to use av's scripts... Well, his scripts are still updating Chromium while 'official' has gone from a 7 day time scale into well over a month. (Sorry about this being a 'comment', but the total breakdown of the system for updates is giving ubuntu a bad name). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to chromium-browser in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1081518 Title: Chromium-browser package is outdated and poses a security risk Status in “chromium-browser” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: The current chromium-browser version in 12.04 is outdated (http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/chromium-browser is at version 18 when current version is 23). That were most probably security vulnerabilities that where fixed between these 2 versions, which Ubuntu chromium-browser users are still vulnerable to. The Quantal package is at version 22: http://packages.ubuntu.com/quantal/chromium-browser I see that the firefox package keeps the same version betweeen Precise and Quantal, since running an outdated browser version has security implications. The same logic should be applied to chromium-browser. Futhermore; there is a (formerly) "official" PPA at https://launchpad.net/~chromium-daily/+archive/ppa that used to maintain the latest version of each channel. This PPA is no longer maintained and according to the Chromium team's support IRC channel, it won't be maintained in the near future. I believe it is best to delete this PPA, to avoid users thinking that their browsers are up-to-date when they are not. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1081518] Re: Chromium-browser package is outdated and poses a security risk
Jamie, I'm not sure why you have assigned this to michag ? On the 6th of November chad.mille sent this email. Hi Phill, Julien, others. I'm glad you're interested in chromium-browser. With desktop web-apps becoming more popular, chromium-browser is becoming more important for everyone. It is now a major responsibility of mine to maintain it. I hope to get official PPAs running in the next few weeks for all supported releases of Ubuntu (L,O,P,Q), with Stable channel first, perhaps even within 7 days, and beta and dev soon thereafter. I hope this is soon enough to satisfy you. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1081518] Re: Chromium-browser package is outdated and poses a security risk
The PPA, as I stated is being re-started by a Canonical guy. It will hopefully be all up and running by the end of this month. Chromium updates already have an exception to allow them to be back ported. The issue is that there was no one doing the 'official' updates. This is going to be resolved. I do know Alex, and he did offer to assist in the updating of Chromium. There was talk of using the script he uses, but the task has been allocated to the Canonical guy. As it also states in the link, it is in 'workaround' for that reason and will be marked as "no longer used" when there is an 'official' update route. Until then, to get updates that ppa can be used, else people will be running an old version of Chromium. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to chromium-browser in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1081518 Title: Chromium-browser package is outdated and poses a security risk Status in “chromium-browser” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: The current chromium-browser version in 12.04 is outdated (http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/chromium-browser is at version 18 when current version is 23). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1072464] Re: Chromium keeps crashing in Ubuntu 12.10
In order to ascertain the problems you see, can you look through https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide to check on your initial install. Please understand that you have limited resources on a net-book and you are attempting to run Win7 Starter and then Ubuntu at the same time. This is a totally different thing to running them side by side where only one of the operating systems is using your net-book's resources. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot has the details of accomplishing that. you may also well find that using one of the lower resource hungry versions of the Ubuntu family, such as Lubuntu may be better for you. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to chromium-browser in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1072464 Title: Chromium keeps crashing in Ubuntu 12.10 Status in “chromium-browser” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I have a Toshiba NetBook NB250 Win7 Starter running Ubuntu 12.10 installed with WUBI. I'm running Chromium Version 24.0.1312.2 Ubuntu 12.10 (165266) and I do not see this behavior. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1054557] Re: Chromium 20.0.1132.47 and 21.0.1180.89 keep crashing silently
Hi Folks, there was a drop off in the supported Ubuntu Chromium PPA area at https://launchpad.net/~chromium-daily/+archive/stable along with all the other ones. The stables for all currently supported versions of Ubuntu are hopefully due to be arriving in about the next 7 - 10 working days. The new guy has a lot of work to catch up on, but as it is now 'in-house' to Canonical once he gets things caught up, all the current (Not End of Life) versions will have updates available. Once we are singing from the same hymn sheet and all on the same version, bug tracking will be one heck of a lot easier :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to chromium-browser in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1054557 Title: Chromium 20.0.1132.47 and 21.0.1180.89 keep crashing silently Status in “chromium-browser” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: At seemingly random times, though often after launch, chromium exits with no error message.
