[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1726516] Re: no progress bar while copying files
Reproduction and unexpected user experience details: * In a nautilus window, navigate to a folder that contains a source folder of large files (e.g., video or pictures) that is sufficient to trigger the copy progress indicator. * Create two `test1` and `test2` folders on the Desktop * In a new nautilus window, open the Desktop folder. At this point, one should see `test1` and `test2` folders on the desktop and in the Desktop folder in the nautilus window. * Copy the source data to `test1` by dragging and dropping in the nautilus window. The copy progress pie chart in the nautilus window should appear. (Okay to cancel the copy once the indicator appears.) * Repeat the copy, this time dragging the source folder to `test2` on the Desktop (*not* in the nautilus window). On my system (ubuntu 18.10), the progress indicator never appears. Many reports have focused on the inconspicuousness of the progress indicator; I concur with that observation. However, I am more perplexed by the inconsistency in behavior when copying to folders on the desktop versus copying to the Desktop folder within a nautilus window. This behavior seems inconsistent to me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1726516 Title: no progress bar while copying files Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: while copying files, it does not show progress or any copy dialogue at all. also there is no option to create new file while right clicking ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10 Package: nautilus 1:3.26.0-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.13.0-16.19-generic 4.13.4 Uname: Linux 4.13.0-16-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: wl ApportVersion: 2.20.7-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Mon Oct 23 23:08:22 2017 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-10-23 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.10 "Artful Aardvark" - Release amd64 (20171018) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_IN:en PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=en_IN SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: nautilus UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1726516/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1687246] Re: GNOME Shell should support fractional (non-integer) Hi-DPI scaling
Lack of fractional scaling is a significant feature regression relative to 17.10 with Unity for those of us with hidpi displays. In Ubuntu Gnome, you only allow for integer scaling of things for high DPI monitors. While in theory this sounds good, on a 27 inch 4k monitor like mine, restricting it to integers is a problem. 1x is annoyingly small, and 2x is WAY too big. You need a 1.5x, and presumably to just allow most noninteger values to future proof the distribution given 8k monitors and all sorts of new and weird things coming out, like windows 10 has. Photos of the two annoying sizes are available here (it won't let me attach two files): http://i.imgur.com/vWrvZxq.jpg http://i.imgur.com/11p19k7.jpg I apologize for my photography skills in advance., you'll have to look at the ruler for scale to see the problem. Please contact me if you need any more information etc. Workaround == You can enable experimental fractional scaling in Ubuntu 17.10 or 18.04 LTS by running the following command in a terminal and then restarting your computer. Note that this is an experimental feature and is not fully supported by either Ubuntu or GNOME. gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['scale-monitor- framebuffer']" After restarting your computer, you should find additional scale options in Settings > Devices > Displays. If you change your mind and want to get back to supported status, run: gsettings reset org.gnome.mutter experimental-features To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mutter/+bug/1687246/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1522177] Re: nautilus sporadically very slow to start/refresh
Figured this out. Closing. Cause: I had intentionally put my home directory under mercurial, primarily to track config files. .hgignore ignored everything. The tortoisehg extension apparently ignores .hgignore. When I ran nautilus with strace, the problem became clear: tortoisehg was recursively stat'ing my entire home directory. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1522177 Title: nautilus sporadically very slow to start/refresh Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: System: Ubuntu 15.10, x86_64, SSD drive Nautilus is sporadically extremely slow to start up or refresh a view even when already running. The behavior is independent of directory and invocation method; for example, invoking via Unity Dash or Chrome's "show in folder" exhibits similar bimodal responsiveness. The bimodal switch seems to be related to a combination of when the directory was last read (likely a cache effect) and whether the directory had been modified (e.g., perhaps based on directory mtime). The attached script and output demonstrate the effect on my laptop. It executes "nautilus ~/" ten times, with sleep times of 0-5 seconds between each. The data suggest that the bimodal switch due to a putative cache timeout is ~5 seconds. That is, *all* invocations separated by more that 5 seconds exhibit the slow mode responsiveness. This is consistent with my experience, namely that nautilus startup is *always* slow because real-world use invocations are always more than 5 seconds apart. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1247572] Re: Nokia Lumia 620 (WP8) fails to mount reliably via gvfs-mtp in nautilus
Kiori's solution didn't work for me. I ran mtp-detect 10 times, always failing with the same LIBMTP PANIC message as above. Ubuntu 14.04, libmtp 1.1.6, Sansa Clip Zip (appropriate libmtp rules already present). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1247572 Title: Nokia Lumia 620 (WP8) fails to mount reliably via gvfs-mtp in nautilus Status in GVFS: Fix Released Status in Nautilus: New Status in gvfs package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Summary: You have to run mtp-detect in terminal until you get output similar to the excerpt in the steps to reproduce section, then you can connect via nautilus as usual. - I just got a Nokia Lumia 620 as a backup phone. I'd say I can mount my Nexus 4 reliably with Ubuntu via nautilus using gvfs-mtp. Users with Android devices like the Nexus 4 still get error messages on a regularly basis of the device not being able to mount, but replugging the device mostly fixes the issue. However, the experience with the Lumia 620 is far worse (the desktop sometimes freezes) and the workaround I found to get the device to work very crude. I was prompted with a apport-collector window when nautilus froze during testing and send a report (this happend twice), but it didn't take me to Launchpad to open a report. I can also seen no bug regarding that topic that I am subscribed to. The Lumia 620 itself was added to libmtp with this report: http://sourceforge.net/p/libmtp/bugs/780/ ## Steps to reproduce: 1. Reboot (or cold boot) computer and phone. Login to computers destop and unlock the phone by entering PIN. 2. Plug the phone via USB into the computer. (Cable works with Nexus 4 or another Android device.) The phone will give a signal that it is connected to the computer. 3. Try to open the phone in Nautilus. My desktop either freezes (cold boot) here or nautilus hangs (reboot). 3.a) If nautilus hangs: Open a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T and kill nautilus with xkill. 3.b) If your desktop froze: Go to a virtual terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F1. 3.c) If you just get an error message: Open a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T and go to step 4. 4. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1351982] [NEW] top panel and launcher are unresponsive
Public bug reported: Unity has recently (~2014-07-15) started exhibiting two odd behaviors that are likely related: 1) The launcher, which is set to autohide, will appear and disappear in 1s (even though I hover over the launcher). It is unresponsive to clicks. 2) All applets in the top panel are unresponsive to clicks. 1 2 always occur together at some point during a session. That is, these components work correctly for hours (days?), then become unresponsive. I have not yet identified the trigger event; screenlocking or suspend/resume *may* be related, but not reliably so (i.e., I can't reproduce it this way). Restarting unity-panel-service (killall unity-panel-service) doesn't help. The problem is temporarily fixed by logging out/in or rebooting, but the issue recurs. The timing of the first occurrence (in July) is probably consistent with my first use of unity-tweak-tool to set focus follows mouse, although this hypothesis doesn't explain why the components initially work and then become unresponsive. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1070963] Re: libreoffice calc hangs when opening an xls file shared over cifs
Same problem here. Ubuntu 13.04, LibreOffice 4.0.2, x86_64 To reproduce: 1) mount smb via nautilius or gvfs-mount 2) open xlsx 3) splash appears and hangs there 4) kill oosplash. This results in a defunct soffice.bin. Other attempts to start LO fail silently. 5) gvfs-mount -u smb:// immediately unhangs LO. (see gvfs-mount -l for list of mounts) And then things then seem relatively happy again. I don't know about the underlying cause. The only useful addition here is that gvfs-mount -u seems to obviate rebooting. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1070963 Title: libreoffice calc hangs when opening an xls file shared over cifs Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite: Incomplete Status in GVFS: Confirmed Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “libreoffice” package in Fedora: Unknown Bug description: used to work prior to upgrade (12.04). steps to reproduce: 1. run nautilus 2. control-L to open location. type: smb://some windows file server 3. navigate to some .xls file 4. double click on file kill pid wont get rid of the process... have to reboot subsequent attempts to run calc, even to just open a blank workbook fails. if you open a blank workbook prior before getting process stuck, it works fine. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1112859] Re: Optoma HD20 projector recognized but no HDMI signal
Data from second laptop. I also have an HP dm4-1173cl with intel HD graphics, running 12.04. It also recognizes the HD20 as OTM 72, but it projects correctly. Thus, the problem seems to be specific to the combination of the Dell XPS 14 and Optoma HD20. Phooey! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1112859 Title: Optoma HD20 projector recognized but no HDMI signal Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Synopsis: I get No Signal and an otherwise blank screen when connecting my Dell XPS 14 Ultrabook running 12.10 to Optoma HD20 projectors (we have two). The projector is recognized as connected. This laptop correctly displays on at least 5 other models of external monitors and projectors over HDMI without issue. Several Macs are known to work fine with these projectors. Hardware Details: The laptop is a Dell XPS Ultrabook (L421X) running 12.10. This laptop has Intel 4000 and NVIDIA 630M graphics, and lsmod shows nouveau and i915 drivers loaded. This model has both HDMI and mini DisplayPort; results are identical for HDMI and the mini DP port (with miniDP-HDMI adapter). The projector is the Optoma HD20. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 887331] [NEW] file-roller cannot open filetypes with derived mimetypes (e.g. epub and ods files)
Public bug reported: Given three files A, B and C, where A is a zip file (a.zip), B is an ePub file (b.epub) and C is an ODF Spreadsheet file (c.ods) ... All files have Open With Archive Manager as a menu option in nautilus. This is likely due to the shared-mime-info database having the ePub and ODS mimetypes as sub-class-of type=application/zip/. File A will open successfully, while files B and C report Could not open 'A' / Archive type not supported. However, renaming B and C so they have a .zip extension will cause the files to be opened correctly. This is likely due to file-roller checking the filetype to load by extension, not magic. However, renaming B and C so they have a .zip extension will cause the files to be opened correctly. This is likely due to file-roller checking the filetype to load by extension, not magic. This is indeed the case as giving a text file a .zip extension causes file-roller to report An error occurred while loading the archive (End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on the last disk(s) of this archive.)
