[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1311847] Re: Neither PrintScreen, SHIFT+PrintScreen, nor CTRL+PrintScreen keyboard shortcuts work on Trusty
I'm also facing this issue but not at every login. Keyboard shortcuts (sound, prev, next play/pause), LCD intensity (directly on laptop) and many other shortcuts (CTRL + ALT + T for starting a terminal also) are a shortlist of broken shortcuts. When this bug occurs, I force a restart of unity-settings-deamon (unity- settings-daemon --replace) and shortcuts are back. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1311847 Title: Neither PrintScreen, SHIFT+PrintScreen, nor CTRL+PrintScreen keyboard shortcuts work on Trusty Status in “unity-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Running Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit with the latest updates. Version of unity- settings-daemon is 14.04.0+14.04.20140414-0ubuntu1. Possible that this bug either affects unity-settings-daemon, gnome-screenshot, or something else. I expected PrintScreen to take a screenshot. Ditto for CTRL+PrintScreen and ALT+PrintScreen. All my settings under Keyboard Shortcuts are normal. Everything worked for every prior release of Ubuntu with the Print key taking a screenshot. Also, neither CTRL+PrintScreen nor SHIFT+PrintScreen work at all. If you reassign the keys for taking a screenshot, to any other keys, gnome-screenshot works as expected. Assigning either of those three key/key combinations to any command does not work. ALT+PrintScreen strangely enough works without issue. Running gnome-screenshot from the terminal also works without issue. Unlike the other bugs I've seen that sound similar, I do not hear a sound at all when pressing any of those three key combinations. Toggling the magic sysrq key does nothing for this issue either. I tried connecting to empathy from Ubuntu 11.10 in three systems behind a proxy server and in all cases it failed. I tried all of the following but none worked: 1. Changing settings with gconf-editor ( Walk down the tree to system -> http_proxy . Search for use_http_proxy and check it. ) Even after doing that there is no change in behaviour of empathy 2. gksudo gedit /etc/bash.bashrc export http_proxy=http://proxyhost:port/ export ftp_proxy=http://proxyhost:port/ save and exit This also didnt help anything 3. Using tsocks and editing its config files also. In that case the result was: "tsocks dbus-launch empathy" fails to retrieve the accounts list. If you're having these symptoms with other hardware, Nvidia or ATI/Radeon, this isn't the place for reports or questions. [Those comments are building up, so brief links to direct other people to appropriate bugs might be good here, if anyone has them. Thanks.] This happens intermittently. Sometimes upon resume, all I see is a black screen and the cursor. the mouse and keyboard respond (the mouse moves) but nothing changes. Switching to console and back doesn't fix it. Killing Compiz also does not fix the issue. Further, if one has password lock disabled on resume the user will be stuck with a frozen display of whatever was last shown on the screen before suspend. The mouse cursor still changes as you hover over various elements but the display is frozen solid. One can switch to another TTY via ctrl+alt+F1 but killing the X session is the only way to get back to the desktop. Attempts to replace compiz have been fruitless. Trying the 3.4 kernel also did not fix the issue. BTW, I haven nothing connected to the laptop when I resume and before suspend. This is a very annoying issue because the only way to recover is to reboot, which means all the open files will be lost. [UPDATE] It was discovered that switching to a tty, killing compiz, then invoking 'metacity --replace' would successfully switch over to metacity. Attempting to invoke 'compiz --replace' afterwards would put the state right back where it was (frozen screen, etc.) and output error messages saying something similar to "invalid configuration, this should never happen, you should probably raise a bug report about it". After killing Compiz again and invoking compiz --replace yet again I can get basic window management back (though unity --replace still does not work as it whines about unclean exit states). So one still needs to start over again to get it all functioning properly.
