We need testing feedback from a user to be able to make this fix an official update. The fix is to make the cups package depend on avahi-daemon a and so installing or updating cups will install avahi-daemon if avahi-daemon is not installed. If you try to uninstall avahi-daemon after installing the proposed cups package you will be told tyhat you have to uninstall cups, too. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to cups in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1180531 Title: CUPS not started automatically in 13.04 Status in “cups” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Lubuntu 13.04 freshly installed. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1180531] Re: CUPS not started automatically in 13.04
Please do a full system update, this should pull in the avahi-daemon package and make the avahi-daemon running. With this CUPS will also work. To do the update use either update-manager or run the commands: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade If this does not work, run sudo apt-get install avahi-daemon Please tell here whether you had to do so. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1180531] Re: CUPS not started automatically in 13.04
No, I don't see it in the Monitor-System. Installed drivers for my Epson printer. Went into the System - Printer menu, but I had no way to add my printer (a message says that CUPS service is not started). WORKAROUND: After searching on forums, I found the sudo service cups restart command , which gave me the following output: stop: Unknown instance: cups start/running, process 4311 Then I restarted the System - Printer menu. The error message had disappeared, and I could add my printer. --- ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 CupsErrorLog: E [15/May/2013:22:02:01 +0200] [cups-deviced] PID 4335 (dnssd) stopped with status 1!
