[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1727958]

2021-06-11 Thread Caolanm
There are 3 years between comment #7 and comment #8 and a lot has
changed since. I suggest a new fresh bug with the details of your
libreoffice version and vclplug variant because I think the general case
is now solvable (and works with e.g. gtk3 variant and mutter-40.1) so
you may have a specific set of circumstances where it still fails.

Title:
Libreoffice writer / calc etc show as white icon in launcher when

Status in LibreOffice:
  Fix Released
Status in GNOME Shell:
  Expired
Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Running Liboreoffice 5.4.2.2 in Ubuntu 17.10, there is an issue with
the application's icons. The individual icons show up in the list of
programs, and can be docked in the launcher - but a generic white
libreoffice icon also shows up in the program list, and if any of the
docked, correct, icons are clicked, a new, white icon appears that is
generic across all libreoffice windows (e.g. if I have open writer and
calc, the white icon gets two red dots and to access either the writer
or calc window I have to click on the generic icon). This is annoying
but not crippling, and not solved by a purge and reinstall.

Title:
[upstream] LibreOffice Impress embed video broken outside slide

Status in LibreOffice:
  In Progress
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Summary:
If you insert video in Impress slideshow and the video is bigger than slide
or is partially out of slide, the libreoffice UI or "slideshow" breaks. See the
video [1]

This bug is related to "libreoffice-gtk3" and "gstreamer1.0-gtk3". The bug
does not accrue if using "libreoffice-gtk2" or none (the default LibreOffice
VCL). Tested on Ubuntu 19.04. Enabled -purposed and upgraded libreoffice to
"6.1.6"

So the current situation (upgrading to "6.1.6") is that video plays
correctly IF the video is fully inside the slide.

If the video is a bit outside the slide or video is bigger than slide, when
pressing "play" button in right pane, libreoffice UI totally breaks.
Only the ~1/8 of window display content other space is white. If resizing the
window, the content gets even smaller.
Also when running the slideshow, it's broken.
I need to close impress and run it again.

Can someone else confirm similar behavior?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 950834]

2012-11-03 Thread Caolanm
Well if unity/gnome-shell additionally parsed the desktop mime-type
record and split application/FOO and application/vnd.BAR.FOO to make FOO
a search term then that'd be quite useful.

Anyway, lets leave this specific bug as "fixed" and file additional ones
if necessary for extra search terms.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 992807]

2012-10-04 Thread Caolanm
Yeah, the feature is supposed to now be language dependant. i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd
for English, while 1er, 2e, etc. for French.

3.6 is busted in that it carefully determines that e.g. "st" is indeed the
right suffix for English but then ignores it

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=defe079d455ccc958fd0128e8a8cf0e4aeb5cd9c

fixes that

The additional
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=a05357ab69712bec53c2d8d17efbbf25907ff9b8
makes the features safe against the unexpected

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 927931]

2012-09-05 Thread Caolanm
There are no performance reasons for turning CTL or CJK on/off as far as
I can recall. "Just" the explosion of bewildering extra features for
users of plain-old-latin scripts.

Perhaps the least contentious solution is to additionally enable the CTL
(or CJK) features on windows if a window keyboard layout is installed
which falls into one of those categories. Filed an easy hack as bug
54493 to do that.

Title:
[Upstream] RTL (CTL) is expected to be enabled in all cases by RTL
  users

Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite:
  In Progress
Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
This is concerning the usability issue where an RTL user gets in front
of LibreOffice and doesn't find the two directionality buttons in the
toolbar (OMG!!!). He won't find them anywhere until he does 8 mouse
clicks to turn the RTL feature on:

complex text layout (CTL) -> CTL: -> OK

  This is how this happens:

CTL is off by default in LibreOffice, and thus RTL is, too.

As I've been briefed, this is how it gets turned on for RTL users
automatically:
  1. RTL locales
  2. A language support package of one of the RTL languages is installed

The problem is that these two triggers for CTL don't cover all the
situations where an RTL user runs LibreOffice.

Many RTL users choose a non-RTL locale. They can also choose not to
install any of the language support packages. The presence of an RTL
language layout is all that indicates their RTL-ness :) Even when RTL
users use a friend's/public computer as guests they expect the RTL

Then, why make RTL off by default? Does it cost a lot of memory? Does
  it have bad Karma? :)

The expectation to have those RTL buttons is because they seem to be
always there in Microsoft Office since as far as I can remember. I
never had to turn anything on. They were always there by default.

In order to understand the severity of this issue, let me tell you
what users do when they don't find those RTL buttons. They try to
configure the toolbar, thinking that they must be disabled there. They
find them enabled, actually. Although enabled in the toolbar, they
don't appear :-O . After that they're quite lost so they might go to
the correct Language Settings -> Languages configuration section.
There, they will not find "RTL" or "Left to right". How would they
know whether to enable the "Enhanced language support" for Asian
languages or for Complex text layout? Most users would lose a few
  hairs by that point.

  Thanks and blessings,

specifically the sd/source/core/stlpool.cxx rSet.Put(

some reset property stuff on import which causes the box to recalculate

Bug description:
libreoffice-core and libreoffice-gnome are two of the last few
packages in the default Ubuntu and Ubuntu GNOME installs with a
  dependency on gconf.

I think some of the code that uses gconf is wrong as neither GNOME nor
Unity set values any more there for things like default mail handler,
font and proxy settings, and lockdown settings.

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/tree/shell/source/backends/gconfbe/gconfaccess.cxx

Even though GTK3 provides an interface to access gsettings directly
through GTK, it's still possible to call out to gsettings manually via
  the command line interface.

RHEL-6 is the current baseline, any work in the area needs to be able to
build and work on RHEL-6. Don't think anyone is going to work on this on
the near future.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1040037]

2013-07-29 Thread Caolanm
a) In any version of LibreOffice in the print dialog or in "printer options"
you can temporarily override the default print job format for that document for
the current session. That won't "stick" permanently (it's not supposed to).
b) In spadmin it *should* have been possible to override the print job format
permanently an individual printers as a workaround. That didn't work and is now
fixed on master as 08597f2897e5ac752147c8f2c4a91bb557ed4580
b) In LibreOffice 4 under tools->options->print there is now an additional
checkbox to disable using PDF as the default print job format for all printers
as 59b98580bfd70205a9ebdb0ba67e74225d875b43

Working under the assumption that the problem is not in our PDF output,
but instead is due to probably multiple different bugs in probably
multiple pieces of the cups stack, this is the best I think we can do on
our side.

See
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_debug_printing_problems#Finding_where_the_problem_lies
for a useful guide to finding what component in the cups stack that
might be causing your individual problems in order to track down the
root causes.

If anyone has any evidence that there really is a fault in our PDF
generation then please open a new bug for that.

Bug description:
Since update yesterday, landscape pages print as portrait printing to
a Brother DCP 135C. Print preview shows a landscape layout, but output
from printer always comes out as a portrait page. The problem did not
occur two days ago, and does not occur when printing from other
  applications (eg pdf viewer).

WORKAROUND: Export the file as a pdf and print that using the pdf
  viewer.

  [IMPACT]

Landscape-formatted documents from LibreOffice get printed rotated and
cut off on all printers using Ghostscript's built-in drivers
("pxlmono", "ljet4", "hl1250", ...), perhaps also with other drivers.

  [TESTCASE]

Print the attached file test.pdf via

  lp test.pdf

on a printer using one of Ghostscript's built-in drivers (not CUPS
Raster). Result is the content being rotated by 90 degrees and the
rightmost portion of the content cut off. The same job comes out
correctly when the proposed package is installed.

  [Regression Potential]

Patch is simple, there should be no regressions.

Hotkeys (Ctrl+b, Ctrl+s etc) in LibreOffice are language dependent and
work in English language only. While writing in any other language
i.e. any Cyrillic, it's impossible to use hotkeys, they just don't do
anything. Switching to English input language enable hotkeys once
again. This is very frustrating as user needs to switch language to
save document, to make it bold, or italic, etc.

This was not experienced in Ubuntu 13.04.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. System Settings > Text Entry.
  2. Add another keyboard layout beside English [In my case it is Bengali
(Probhat)]
  3. Now launch Writer.
  4. Switch the keyboard layout from English (US) to Bengali (Probhat) by
pressing Ctrl+Space.
  5. Press Ctrl+B to change font weight to bold.

  Error:
Font weight does not get changed.

  Expected:
Font weight should change to bold.

  Note:
none other system hotkeys work as expected. I.e. Ctrl+s to save, or Ctrl+b to
subscript, or Ctrl+i to italic etc.

  Workaround:
The only way is to -
  1. change the keyboard layout to English
  2. then press desired hotkey
  3. then switch keyboard layout back to Bengali.

The issue is critical, as it make writer very slow for keyboard-only
  typing.

Title:
[Upstream] Libreoffice: problems with saving docs to directories of
  Windows networks (through samba-connection)

Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite:
  Incomplete
Status in “gvfs” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
At the office I use my Ubuntu computer as a work station and connect
it to our Windows network by establishing Samba (smb) connections. In
this way I can not only use the print facilities but also use directly
the network directories for opening, saving of documents.

Since ubuntu 12.04 directories of windows networks have been
integrated in the procedure for opening, saving of documents in
Libreoffice. Directories available through open samba-connections thus
are integrated in the list of directories on which docs can be saved.
This was a great new features, since before 12.04 one had to save
files on a local directory first and then move or copy them to the
  windows directory in Nautilus.

After having done the upgrade to ubuntu 12.10 QQ this facility does
not work as it should. The network directories are still shown and it
it still possible to open a document. But is it not possible to save
it and giving it another name. Another thing which had become
impossible is to open a document from another source than the network
directory (e.g. local directory, attached doc to a mail) and save it
in a directory of the network server.

When doing this the system gives the information 'Error saving the document
#name#. The file does not exist' (see screenshot 1, text in italian). If one
then presses the OK-button there is a second error communication with the
following text:
Error is saving the document #name#:
  General Error
  Generel I/O error
(see screenshot 2, text in italian)

I have checked whether the same kind of error also occurs in other
programs, at least in Evince (pdf-reader). This is not the case.

A last issue I want to report is that when one opens a doc (e.g. odt)
from a network directory, modifies it and then save it, this seems to
work. There is no error messsage. When checking by re-opening the
saved document, in a few experiments I did the modifications were not
saved. In nautilus the date indication of the file also remained the
same. In other experiments however the saving of the documents with
the modifications seemed to work as it should.

conclusion: the integration of network directories in LO has become
unreliable, with a high risk of loss of information for the user.

  nvidia-current-updates 295.40-0ubuntu1 and XFCE+Metacity. With
libreoffice-gtk installed libreoffice fails to start on second X
screen :0.1. On first X screen :0.0 it loads successfully. On Ubuntu
11.10 it also worked well on both screens.

  This is the error produced:

  #$ libreoffice

  (soffice:5545): Gdk-CRITICAL **: IA__gdk_screen_get_monitor_geometry:
  assertion `monitor_num < screen_x11->n_monitors' failed

  (soffice:5545): Gdk-CRITICAL **: IA__gdk_screen_get_monitor_geometry:
assertion `monitor_num < screen_x11->n_monitors' failed
  WARNING: gnome-keyring:: couldn't connect to: /tmp/keyring-XTNyXK/pkcs11: Нет
такого файла или каталога
The program 'soffice' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
(Details: serial 1595 error_code 8 request_code 62 minor_code 0)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1272153]

2014-01-27 Thread Caolanm
8430x11700 pixels is the problem, it's considered excessive by the
import. If you scale it down to e.g. half that resolution it would
import fine. I'll raise the limit of 256M per image to 512M.

We do set a password handler via cupsSetPasswordCB which I imagine is
what should then get called under these circumstances, but it doesn't
work for me either while it does in evince.

  3) What is expected to happen is when one performs at the Terminal:
  cd ~/Desktop && wget
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/689349/+attachment/1763870/+files/classnetwork.odg
 && unoconv --listener && unoconv -f pdf classnetwork.odg && acroread
classnetwork.pdf

is it looks as it does in Evince.

  4) What happens instead is acroread displays erroneous pixel-sized
  dots as per screenshot

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/689349/+attachment/1763844/+files/garbagescreenshot.png
  , while evince does not.

First reproduced in Maverick 1:3.3.1-1ubuntu3~maverick1, and
  reproduced in Natty, and Precise.

Unconfirmed OOo WORKAROUND: The upstream version does _not_ produce
  these effects and is fine.

Title:
[SRU] soffice.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in Application::GetSolarMutex()

Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite:
  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed
Status in libreoffice source package in Vivid:
  New

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * crash on close of document

   * possible loss of data (from other unsaved documents still open)

   * top1 crasher for LibreOffice on errors.ubuntu.com

   * regression versus prior major releases of LibreOffice

  [Test Case]

   * not easily/reliably reproducable sadly

  [Regression Potential]

   * low: minimal patch, not a core code area (only affects scenarios
using StarBasic, not document model or e.g. layout), tested upstream
  and in PPA

  [Other Info]

  closed libreoffice calc
a java update has been running while soffice.bin was in action...
