Just realised had missed out mentioning the product in use for anyone who looks
at this - the LDAP in use with Directory Studio M16 having this issue was
Oracle Unified Directory 12.2.1.3.0 version 190522 and upwards

> I was using Apache Studio to connect to my LDAP which is setup in a

> I see the Root DSE as blank on the LDAP Browser

> # I have investigated everything possible from my LDAP end and there have

> # I have since tried JXplorer to isolate if maybe its something to do with
> MAC to LDAP connection rather than Studio to LDAP. But connections via
> JXplorer work fine - view as well as edits
> # Re-importing connections to Studio did not work - I thought maybe the
> connections have a new format and the old one doesnt work anymore
> # I tried it on a friend's laptop which is also MAC but older OS and it

Thanks a lot for your update [~seelmann]

I just tested with the M17 version described on the link above and the root DSE
seems fine with this version. Works great!

Which LDAP servers do you use? If it's Oracle then likely then it's like the
same reason as in DIRSTUDIO-1271.

The next Studio release is currently voted on, if you want you can already test
it, infos are here:

OK now that I specifically look for the studio-browser tag, i can see
DIRSTUDIO-1271 which reports something very similar. The error I get on trying
to open my Root DSE was also the NullPointer Exception that is reported there
