Re: Windows 4.1.0 installer does not remove the startup group icon(empty group) after uninstall

2014-04-10 Thread Yuzhen Fan
Hi Oliver and all,

It also happens on OOo 3.3.0 besides on AOO 3.4.1, AOO 4.0.0 and AOO 4.1.0
RC2.
There is an existing bug 13669[1] in Bugzilla which was closed as
irreproducible in 2003, I reopen it with reproducible steps and confirmed
versions above.

[1] *Issue 13669*
 - program
group does not get removed after uninstall

it's difficult to say without having the code, you can easy make mistakes with
extensions.

I haven't followed the thread in detail but maybe you can describe in
a few sentences what exactly you try

- which programming language do you use
- which kind of extension, an add-on, a calc add-in, ...
- ...

I am still plugging away at this issue. This is what I have determined. addExtension is
called in dp_extensionmanager.cxx. However, a RuntimeException is thrown somewhere and
caught on line 819. Then on line 830, the code then tries to recover the "original
status" then call activateExtension, which then leads up to the crash, which
happens after an attempt to register and process the package in dp_component.cxx. I am
not sure if the initial RuntimeException is causing the problem, but something is not
correct. Here is high level stack trace (typed out).

The stack trace at the crash does lead me down into that area of the code.

[1] cpp_vtable_call(nFunctionIndex = 3, nVtableOffset = 0, pCallStack
=0xe90acea8, nRegReturn = -1649035904490436800LL) in cpp2uno.cxx [2]

 = 0xe91d7240, _ARG2 = CLASS, doRegisterPackage = true, startup = false,
abortChannel = CLASS, xCmdEnv = CLASS), line 1554 in "dp_component.cxx

Also, I was able to install the extension mentioned here with success.

Literally, a bridge, for example a bridge from your compiler's C++ ABI to UNO

Strange crashes not reproducible on other platforms like the ones you describe

This might be the difference between OOo 3.3 and the AOO 4 you built

Thanks Ariel. I compiled the code myself for Solaris 11 using Solaris Studio

You don't mention from where you got that AOO 4 for Solaris; nobody here builds
on Solaris, so all that strange crashes you mention on your mails sound like a
broken bridge on that platform (and that's where the bug you quote in one of
your mails is pointing to, but in that case to a broken bridge after a GCC
version update on Linux).

That said, I know nothing about the bridge related code, so sorry I cannot help.

I am still plugging away at this issue. This is what I have determined. addExtension is
called in dp_extensionmanager.cxx. However, a RuntimeException is thrown somewhere and
caught on line 819. Then on line 830, the code then tries to recover the "original

I am cross posting here since I am not getting much traction on the dev list

the Netbeans Openiffice module. This .oxt file works fine on AOO 3.3, but since

Sounds perfect. Adding options (instead of assuming and deciding for the
user) is always positive ;)

Please make sure that the fix in situation 2) is also included in the MSP

[CANCELED][VOTE]: Release Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0 (RC2)

2014-04-10 Thread Jürgen Schmidt
as reported earlier we found additional showstopper that are critical
enough to prepare a further RC candidate and start a new vote.

https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=124617
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=124639

and potentially
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=124636
I am not sure if it is really a showstopper it is broken since 4.0. Well
the related code is sub optimal to say it careful and the behaviour
changed indirectly because of other changes.

Objection is possible at any time but to me it is clear that we don't
want release with existing critical showstopper. And of course we
clearly differentiate between issues that are edge cases for one
platform only, issues that are reproducible on all platforms and are
crashes or regressions or issues less critical but requested as
showstopper and where a fix is in place.

Hi Oliver,

It has same problem on AOO 3.4.1, AOO 4.0.0.

if the numbers become true I can't wait to see this in practise ;-) But
of course I am a little bit skeptical and have many questions in my

Hi all,

Bug 124599 [2] is verified fixed in AOO 4.1.0 RC2, from current behaviors
and comments provided in this bug, the "expected behaviors" for upgrade on
Windows could be:

Good idea. Good text but maybe a native speaker can tweek the wording.

1. If the former version is 3.x, there will be a check box in Installation
Wizard providing the option to keep or remove the former version
- If select "Remove all older product versions", then 3.x will be removed
and 4.x will be installed with 1 startup group, 1 desktop icon and 1 entry
in the Add/Remove Programs list. This artifact is for 4.x
- If de-select "Remove all older product versions", then 4.x will be
installed with keeping 3.x, there will be 2 startup groups, 2 desktop icons
and 2 entries in the Add/Remove Programs list. These artifacts are one
suite for 3.x and the other suite for 4.x

2. If the former version is also 4.x, but older than current installing
one(e.g. install 4.1.0 over 4.0.0), then the older one will be removed and
the newer one will be installed with 1 startup group, 1 desktop icon and 1
entry in the Add/Remove Programs list. This artifact is for the newer one.

I think above behaviors are acceptable, I propose to update the
installation instructions [1] according those. Any comments, or any
objections?

Hi,

The current installation instructions [1] (last updated on 2014-03-26)

does

not differentiate the clean installation and upgrade installation for
Windows, thus it does not state the option to keep or delete the old
version for an upgrade installation.

I propose development update the installation instructions [1] when

submit

the fix to bug 124599 [2], to provide what is expected to see with

details

as below:

1. Upgrade from old version to relative new version (e.g. from 3.3 to
3.4.1, from 3.4.1 to 4.1.0, from 4.0.0 to 4.1.0, etc)
2. Specify the different behavior/experience on all platforms (Windows,
Linux and Mac) - I do not see problems in the current instructions on

Linux

and Mac, but need confirmation

That is essential, because for testers we need this as criteria for
testing, and for end users we need this as instructions for guiding.

You are right. We need to have our installations instructions accurate!
Commmitters can directly edit this page and commit. Others can submit
patches which we can review. We could use help from all folks using our
installation binaries on this.

Permission granted. Make sure you work on the translated version and not
on the original one (i.e., if a zh_CN version does not exist yet, create
it by copying the English page; ask if you have doubts).

Re: Windows 4.1.0 installer does not remove the startup group icon(empty group) after uninstall

Hi,

Hi all,

Here are the steps to reproduce this problem, I will check Bugzilla when it
recovers to me:

1. Install 4.1.0 RC2 (clean install or upgrade install)
2. Run the installation again and select Remove in Program Maintenance of
installation Wizard, and click Next (see screenshot post below)
3. Check startup group after uninstall finish

Problem: the startup group "OpenOffice 4.1.0" is empty(it is expected)
while the group icon still remains

Could you please check former OpenOffice version (e.g.: OOo 3.3.0, AOO
3.4.0, AOO 4.0.0) as well?

Thanks in advance,
Oliver.

Notes: there is no such problem when uninstall AOO by Windows's uninstaller
in Control Panel

Empty startup group remains, should be removed
