[digitalradio] Some More Thoughts On WINMOR and Winlink
As the addition of WINMOR to Paclink has begun early testing , mostly testing of rig interfacing, I have had an opportunity to reacquaint myself with Paclink, Airmail, and the Winlink system. I had set things up for Winlink at my station a couple of years ago and used a local 2M Telpac node to access the system . Sure, I could use the Internet to access Winlink , but after my local telpac node went down I regretted not having a direct radio on-ramp , no Pactor TNC here. Just as I was tempted to spend a zillion dollars on a P3 capable machine, along came talk of WINMOR . I had some initial confusion cleared up by Rick, KV9U and others in an earlier thread. Now, studying Paclink a bit more has me really looking forward to using public mailboxes that use WINMOR on HF. I assume that many people know already, but just in case there are some that do not, WINMOR will not be a digital mode that your can use for keyboard "chats" or QSOs, it is intended to allow you to connect to a HF Radio Message Server and unload your email formatted messages . It is a mode designed to work within the Paclink application. There is really no valid reason, but I bet you that when WINMOR HF servers come on line...I will be trying to connect to one thousands of miles away. This, despite the fact that I could "pop" my message in to the system via Telnet or 2M packet. I wrote a brief article for a local radio group explaining the differing concepts between NBEMS/FLARQ in FL-Digi and WINMOR in PacklinkW. As I wrote it, and played around with both this weekend , I am of the opinion that BOTH will be useful tools for message delivery. NBEMS for all the reasons previously mentioned on this message group, and the Winlink system that is efficient ,soon to be open to more people with a sound card based HF option, and a potential busy-detect system that will hopefully eliminate some of the PACTOR QRM argument. Where all this leaves ALE, is another issue ! Just rambling, 73 de Andy K3UK
[digitalradio] FLdigi/Skype/Microham Quirk ?
Interesting. I was helping a friend troubleshoot an issue with FL-Digi and his Digikeyer. It had previously worked OK, them stopped PTT and no waterfall display of anything. We used Skype to talk while we tried to solve the problem. The ODD thing is that while talking him through things, my FL-Digi with Microkeyer began to exhibit the exact problems. No PTT, no signals in the waterfall despite an active number of PSK signals on the band. FL-DIGi was displaying an audio ports error on the very bottom of the screen. I can't remember what it said exactly, something about multiple ports, I think. I closed FL-Digi and booted up Multipsk, signals were in the waterfall. So I went back in to FL-Digi, went to CONFIGURE , then WATERFALL, and then AUDIO. I checked the capture and playback selection to make sure I had the correct audio source. I had three audio sources that were possible, internal sound card, external sound card, and USB camera with mic that I use for Skype. Even though I had the correct one selected, I clicked on it anyway. Poof ! Signals in the waterfall all of a sudden, and PTT command was working. My friend did the same, and all was well at his end. Is this some sought of Skype related quirk, Microham Device Writer quirk? Anyone replicate this ? What does the audio ports error in FL-digi signify ? Andy K3UK
Re: [digitalradio] Re: PSK Reporter with FLdigi ?
I used it this weekend on the NAQP and it was great to watch the stations worked pop up on the screen. Darrel On 1-Mar-09, at 5:16 PM, Andrew O'Brien wrote: -Ta, Stelios, the short version was all I needed, Click that, and all is well 73.
Re: [digitalradio] Pactor scanning ?
I should pop up on 7,103.7 (CF) from time to time.
